    observations..
    a. those guys need to buy a sun lamp
    b. NI video budget is clearly 1000x the size of Akai.
    c. the sample saving method is pretty cool.
    d. Both Akai and NI need to understand how chords are played in real music... they offer the same 1-3-5 and 1-3-5-7 boring chord patterns & no inversions.

Big props to Akai for adding a looper...

I'm about to get the Studio (had one before but sold it), and I have never used the MPC Renaissance.

Obviously, the first AKAI software releases were underwhelming compared to Maschine, but they are getting closer...

I don't know, there is something intriguing about the Renaissance that gets my attention, although in my mind I know Maschine has more of everything, hmm..

Maschine Studio does everything I need it to do.

N.I's company alone makes me favor their products over Akai. Bigger team, more money coming in, and it shows in their presentation and innovation of their products

Don't think so, but you can alter the start of the sample... it's the same effect I guess. And pad link them afterwards.
That offset thing is nice because you can actually make them play before their time.

I'm getting a second hand MPC Studio again... I want to jam with my guitar and that looper.

Hearing what the guy is saying makes you think that they just invented most of those new features ;)

Nah , it's just they integrate with a few forums and get harassed on Twitter, they get all these feature requests and negative feedback like this should do this and that this mpc had this this one did that ,so I think they just get a bit of satisfaction when they add these features because they know all these people are gonna be talking about it

Thanks for the reply. But, if you alter the start point of the sample, then you would be - in effect - cutting off part of your sample, no? With the MPC offset, it seems to allow you to delay the start of the sample, which is cool.

But, (and you might be saying the same thing), in Maschine you could pad link two samples and offset their note triggers, and then re-sample. But, the MPC way is nice. It would be a cool feature for Maschine to have.

Akai is killing it and I am surprised. Some of the features added over the last few versions have really closed the gap. NI have to step up the game big time within V2.x I feel they need to get the sequencer up to par as that is only area that the MPC slaughters Maschine.

I find the swing different ,i can't get my head round it in maschine ,I think it's because the mpc moves the notes

Akai is really catching up now and they seem to be getting serious. Still don't like the hardware though.

They really need to do something about their videos. It's not about budget, it's about taste. Akai has always had this stuck in the 80's video presentation when they could just get an intern, a Canon 5D and FCP and make something that looks ten times better. I mean it looks like they are still filming these on videotape. The super creepy dudes don't help.

NI's stuff gets slick presentation even when they aren't directly involved like the DJ techtools videos for traktor products.

NI's videos always show their products being used in context (usually a performance). Akai needs to do the same and no silly videos of hip-hop guys jumping around not actually using the product.

Maschine is great, but missing a few key features to take it over the top.

-Groove feature, like swing but user controlled groove function. With the ability to add the groove amount you want from user captured grooves, look at Reason or Studio One for fantastic ways to implement or capture grooves.

-Ability to stack or layer sounds on a pad, like Battery or MPC, to quickly create new sounds, ability to offset layered samples for new sound creations.

-Ability to half or double the tempo in machine when it is locked to a DAW tempo, like in Addictive drums. This is an important missing feature.

-Ability to add user defined chords & arps.
