The Noobie Thread

Hey people, I don't know if there's already a thread like this, but I think maybe it would be a good idea to get a noobie thread going for people who haven't been making music on maschine for very long and have very general questions about maschine.

I'll start the noobie thread off by asking some noobie questions

- I installed maschine on my macbook and I think I made a mistake because someone told me it runs smoother if you install the sound library on an external hard drive, so I'm wondering if I can still do this after I've already installed it to my macbook hard drive, would it be a good idea to uninstall maschine, then re-install it but put the sound library on my external hard drive? and how do I set it up to read the sounds from my hard drive? Someone please help me out on this one cause I honestly have no idea how to do that.

- This is more of a Pro Tools question but it kinda pertains to maschine, so I have my pattern all made and I added everything I wanted in maschine, now I need to get it into pro tools so the way I have been doing it is bouncing the patterns and importing them into pro tools, but for some reason when I arrange the patterns in pro tools, they don't line up perfectly and that wouldn't be such a big deal but when I go to crossfade them to smooth out the transitions but then a window pops up and says "the fade has invalid bounds" or something like that and asks me to either skip invalid fades or adjust bounds, when I adjust bounds it doesn't do the crossfade right and it just makes the transitions sloppy and it sounds REAL amateur. SOMEONE HELP ME

Oh, and I've been wondering about updates too, for someone like me running maschine on a mac, what are some updates I'll wanna get? I'm almost positive I don't need all of them but what ones should I get and how do i install them and what will they do? haha I know these are some noob questions but I've only just entered the world of recording software a year ago and I've been neglecting some small details that can make my setup less frustrating.

 

firstly make sure you are running Maschine 1.5.1. what version are you currently running?

it is okay for you to have you Maschine Library on your Macbook. you can however copy n paste the Library and then repoint Maschine to the new place - Maschine Preferences - and then rescan. then quit Maschine and launch it again.

i use Drag n Drop Audio in Pro Tools. make sure Loop Optimize is checked in your Audio Export settings in the Maschine Software... this is very important.

I appreciate your help sowari, where do I check what version it is? I clicked the little NI logo and all I could see that MIGHT be the version im running was 1.0.3.002, I have a feeling that's not it though, I am a little hesitant on downloading updates cause I wanna make sure I only download the ones I need. The thing with drag and drop is I don't know how to upload my session on the plug-in maschine, like I'll get maschine up in pro tools as a plug in but then I can't get the session up on maschine with the audio i want to drag and drop, is there something I'm missing?

 

Hey, First Post in the forum, Ive encountered my first real issue with maschine, Ive had it for months now and its been nothing but great, so I just updated the software to 1.5.1, and now after i installed the update, my computer wont recognize maschine, plug it in it flashes but the led screens dont turn on, software works but the hardware doesent, any insight into this problem? Thanks

run the ctrl editor .....than run maschine stand-alone...had the same issue and that solved it (thanx ew )

the 1.1.0 has a Factory Update, in addition to the Software Update

the 1.5.0 also has another Factory Update, in addition the Software Update.

1.5.1 is a Software update.

please go to the above link - you wull need yo log in - to get more details.

you need the 1.5 update to do Drag n Drop in Pro tools - unless you are on a PC, in which case it won't work.

Hi forum - first post here

Had Maschine for about a year here - and been loving it so far - no real issues (hence not needing to post here!)

But I have come across a problem today - when I use Maschine hardware as a controller in Ableton - It works with whatever template I load (the stock Ableton one - Ableschine Mackie Control mode etc - all works fine.......for about 30secs.)

After this initial 30 seconds or so - Ableton no longer responds to any input from the controller - The controller itself still lets me scroll through pages etc - but all the pads, and illuminated buttons are 'Locked out' - or frozen in some way.

Very frustrating - seems weird that it works initially - but not after that.

The controller works as It should with other templates I have made - like Traktor for example - that still works fine.

Weird - any input as I would love to be able to use Maschine with Ableton.

hey guys,
i was just wondering if there was a way that I could turn up the responsiveness of the pads on Maschine. it seems like there is a slight delay between me hitting the pad, and the sounds coming from the speakers. its not really a huge delay, but it makes it very difficult to stay on tempo. any help will be appreciated.

o.k i have had an akai,so i know how to sample,slice,,and i love maschine,but man,when i have a long sample..its either over riding the scene,and if i put a 4 bar or 8 beat to it,,it laps over,,wow,i had acid pro,and it was easy,this thing is complcated...
cant i just play a beat,,and drop any sample,long or short,with out it all bunching up,can sombody please help me..tell me what to do,how to set up a beat,and mesh my samples...thank you

 

what audio interface do you use at which buffer size?
sounds more like a latency issue....

 

@pawcut: i have maschine running on my HP laptop (cant be exact on the processor and stuff, im @ work). windows 7 and i have my Creative Sound Blaster Xi-Fi external sound card. and im not too sure what the buffer size is.

 

go to maschines file -> audio and midi settings -> audio - dropdown.
at the bottom , how high is the latency in ms , and the buffer size in samples ?

 

Latency is 441 Samples... I don't see anything about buffer, but Sample Rate is at 44100. That is the only option available in the drop down menu.

 

shouldn't you be using the downloadable asio4all driver if you are on a PC?

i know nothing about your Device - i also use a Mac so can't really hlp - but with my Audio Devices, i can select how much of a latency i have. it looks as though you have no choice.

Hey, sowari, i'm just wondering what the controller editor update does? i downloaded it from the site and i don't know if i need it or not.

 

@sowari I had tried to download ASIO4All before I had installed my external soundcard... I wasn't aware I still had to use it. Even still when I had tried to download & install it I couldnt quite figure out how to install it. maybe I need to give that a try.

I think it's worth doing all the updates tbh, although others may disagree...?

 

is ur external soundcard that x-fi thing?
has it asio ?
if not use asio4 all and select it in the audio settings,the driver should say asio , not wasapi shared mode...

 

@pawcut ok i installed ASIO4ALL. should i turn the buffer all the way down?
