    Cheating

    Hello.

I'm just wondering about the fairness of this competition as I suspect that some people could be cheating.

I've heard that there are programs that can boost your ratings and views youtube.
I have also noticed that some people have managed to get a lot of high ratings with hardly any comments ....mmmm suspicious?

Also the overall ratings on everyone's videos seem to be continually getting lower as if they were being purposely down voted.

Of course these are all assumptions but if this were to be so then are there ways that you are able to tell if someone is cheating?

    Regards

    Jay

I don't think you really need any program to pull ratings down. Obviously there is one participant there who has a lot of 'fans', and it doesn't take much time for these 'fans' to click around and give every prospective rival a one star rating. Only this single contender had over three stars (out of five), everyone else was down to three and two - even if they started out with four / four-and-a-half ratings on the first day of voting. He plays well, and he deserves a prize I guess, but I'm not sure he's entirely happy to have this type of 'fans' as there will be a smell of cheating which isn't his fault. Some dubbed it the 'Guitar RIGGED contest', another 'a social experiement' since the voting appears to have brought out some poor sportsmanship to say the least. Now - this is a weakness of the YouTube rating system, and NI can't be blamed for that - except for being naive about it?
For the competition to be taken seriously at all, I am glad NI have selected a special jury as well. They can only be more independent. Next time(?) NI will need to concider a voting system where you only can vote on a scale (i.e. not one 'five' and fifty 'one') and on a limited number of players.
I have dropped in frequently, and it appears things are moving a bit. Some seems to be on a three and a half stars now.

Voting aside, it is nevertheless interesting to hear what others are doing with GuitarRig.

Well what a waste of my time and of any other hard worker that hasn't cheated!
I think I'm justified in saying this competition is completely unfair!
I can only hope that Native Instruments find a way to make this whole thing fair for everyone!

Isn't this also judged by the artist panel?

Not exactly, only the top ten videos as it says in the rules:

"...The 10 videos rated best on YouTube will be judged by the "Jury" consisting of Dweezil Zappa, Barry Burns, e.t.c....."

Well if that's the case then anyone who hasn't made it to the top ten won't be fairly judged!

Ok. Thanks for the clarity. I'm not part of this process, but I'm sure NI is working on something as they monitor both the contest and the forum carefully.

    Rigged

I really hate it. I tried to promote my video to the right people. People who like the kind of music I made. So I got a massive amount of targeted visitors lately (and some ratings) because I was on the homepages of two of my favourite bands. Now that the link is less prominently visible (or not at all), not too many visitors anymore and not that many ratings anymore.
However, people are deliberately voting against the good votes I had.

Check the top 15 countries (in random order) visiting my video (on the days before and after I got the massive amount of visitors):
    Ukraine
    Canada
    Germany
    Lebanon
    Croatia
    United States
    New Zealand
    Serbia
    Turkey
    Uruguay
    Finland
    Venezuela
    Qatar
    Estonia
    Italy

Some of these countries directly relate to the people in the top 10. And some countries I wouldn't have thought to visit my video at all! I don't think that's a coincidence! It may or may not be the video posters rating against me and others, it could be that their friends are doing it. However, there are too many 1 ratings against me and others. As soon as I'm in the top 30 I get ratings against me. Check the people who are not in the the top 30, they barely get any ratings.

It's not even possible anymore to see who's been rated fare and who not. Sigh.... :(

I got plenty of votes (poor rating) from Canada as well, and I thought that "GuitarRig must be really huge there!". Until I saw that the guy in the lead is from Canada - LOL.
Otherwise I think it's great that you have votes from so many countries! I guess what this contest is good for for most of us, is exposure. If you're into this to win, I think you do need some campaign going for you. Sorry for that.

I agree! And I think that it would be a good idea for anyone who also sees that this competition is unjust to voice their opinion on this thread in an attempt to get Native Instruments to change the voting system or do something to make this fair for everyone!

...And yes, people have benefited from getting views and comments on there videos but what about people who spent a lot of time making a video with the sole purpose of competing in this competition.

    Public voting suspended

We have just suspended the public voting because we finally found proof for systematic cheating, which started around the beginning of this month.

Basically, one person continuously manipulated the ranking by giving one-star ratings to selected videos through a large number of fake Youtube accounts, probably automated through some kind of script or bot.

Since someone mentioned David MeShow in this thread, I want to point out that it was not him who benefitted from this - on the contrary, the David MeShow video was also systematically "down-voted" together with other contestants.

We now have to come up with a new process to finish the contest, which will at least take a few days. Stay tuned for more info...

I very glad that something is being done, thank you!

Just to make it clear, at no stage did I suspect David Meshow as being the "cheater", just from looking at his subscribers and previous videos it was pretty obvious that he was going to get a lot of high votes!

Anyway, glad to hear that you're trying to come up with a new process to finish the contest!

    Cheers!

    T-shirts for ALL 108 Participants

Considering that there are only 108 contestants and that the voting got screwed up I think NI should offer the T-shirts to all of the people who entered regardless of the outcome to keep good faith with the customers who worked so hard on these videos to help promote Guitar Rig 3 for NI.

I believe it's going to be a difficult decision for Native Instruments to decide what to do with the contest now because in the end there will likely be ppl who will say that they would have won a prize if things hadn't got screwed up. Maybe they should give Gibson guitars to all the entries lol (ok maybe not).

I think all the videos are fantastic and weather I win anything or not this contest has been a blast. I am proud to be part of it. Guitar rig is a great product and the re are many talented people using it in these videos. Cheers!
