    Hey y'all

Has anyone got the new TouchOSC colour change feature working via OSCulator? I seem to have the bit of brain missing that's required to figure it out.

You are not alone ;) I think the custom messages / Translators in OSCULATOR is the key.

I have not had time to look into it though.

Got bot my rmx and Ipad working at the same time with is a good combo for me. Got fx modules working fine too witch is nice because i didnt had this on my rmx complet.
The respond is very nice and quick. Sry for my english I ma french.

I give you my template and traktor tsi file and so on so that you can enjoy this setup like Iv been doing since 3 weeks now.

If you have any questions dont hesitate and Ill do my best to help you out. For the Puredata thing I am a noob like so plz be patient.

Amazing work. I was browsing for a template with a browser interface and I see this inspiring thread. Even to your OP, I agree with your attitude towards the iPad and music. Kudos.

I somewhat quickly consumed the thread, so apologies if this is a dumb question... Was there a reason you did not include an FX panel?

I am not proficient in creating these templates, but I have messed with midi mapping with an APC40 and Traktor, so some advice or direction from you on what steps I can take to include or transpose a different template's page of four FX banks into your template would be greatly appreciated.

are you by chance building in hotkeys for pre-set combinations of effects and properties?

i use my apc40 to select three effects and specific parameters with the touch of one button, and then use the knobs for dry wet. after seeing the xy grid on touchosc, it just feels like the best type of control for those types of effects.

touch-control does some of this here and here but i feel it could also use a separate page dedicated to pre-selected combos of effects and parameter levels, and even effect list navigation and selection (like philL's browser controls).

am i crazy for wanting that?

Thanks Mate much appreciated. Regards FX pages there are several reasons.
1/ I have two X1's already so the FX secttions were better using physical Knobs.
2/ Rotaries are better implemented as real knobs. I don't care much for the absolute rotary controls at present, better relative mode gestures need to be designed.
3/ I've been working on a design using buttons instead of knobs and need to finish implementing it.
4/ I've hit the wall with my current template set and it cannot support any more objects in TouchOSC due to download timeout limitations.
5/ I'm working on a simpler set of controls and eliminating the lesser used controls on screen to build a new simpler TouchOSC Template set.

Its easy to switch the loaded template set mid stream not so easy to switch OSCULATR Files or TSI's though.
The best plan would be to use my OSCULATOR and TSI Mappings and to build your own TOUCHOSC Templates and then extend the existing OSCULATOR map and TSI.

I've been busy finishing off some templates for someone else over the last two weeks of so and will come back to my own ones soon. I'm working on a template set that incorporates the 2 X1's the iPad and a Korg Nano-Kontrol for sampler deck control for Traktor 1.2.6. I'm using the X1 Knobs for EQ and filters.

Thanks for the response - sounds great, and I will offer my help in any way I can to test it out.

One of the reasons I was looking for the aforementioned addition is that my girlfriend, of all people, became very interested in wanting to help out with my music addiction, and the XY grid for effects was very appealing to her. Those mixed with your easy manner of selecting music, would allow her to help out a little bit easier.

Either way, I'm very interested in seeing this new template.

Just wanted to see if any PC users could help me out.

I've been trying to have Traktor, 'learn' from the iPad after MIDI Yoke/PureData/Etc. but it doesn't seem to be picking up on any of the midi signal. I've double-checked the ip address and it works with Ableton, but for some reason no response in Traktor?

    Am I missing something?

Either way, I have some decent layouts built for it and a show to spin at tonight unfortunately.

Looks like I'll be using ableton tonight, but if anyone has any idea whats causing the problem let me know. Thanks!

[Edit: DJ Moya's layout and patch seem to work fine.... so I'm really at a loss here. Time to throw in the towel for this week though]

    Hello

After much faffing and tweaking I'm finally getting towards finishing v2.0 of my layouts. They come with a choice of mixers, depending how much you like to squeeze on one page, and some new pages for cues & loops, settings, and a 'wheel' for numerous functions inc scratching.

As I say, there's still some tweaking to do, but let me know what you think. Thanks! :)

The attached link goes to a 4 deck version. I like to keep labelling to a minimum but hopefully you can work out what's what through the layout & colour coding.

    @Neoluk,

We seem to be trading spaces LOL! Your controls sets are get dense and mine are slimming down.

After getting a fair amount of feedback on mine I'm pulling out the lesser used controls to secondary pages and simplifying the main deck pages + making the control objects larger.

I'm branching the tree to create one set for use with X1 Templates and one slightly more complicated set for regular use with the X1s.

Have you run into the problem where you could not get your templates to download? I discovered there is a limit on the number of objects you can have in a template for me it was around 890 objects. The Template times-out during dsownload to the iPad. Its a TouchOSC issue not an editor problem.

BTW I been working on a prototype Powershell converter for OSC files to convert them to PureData Files. Its working but still needs plenty of work. Unlike Hexlers converter which builds new Midi assignments this is intended to work with OSCULATOR files and creates the same mappings in .PD format so you can export your TSI in MAC and import it in Windows and have it work. It slow because I have been developing Templates for people in addition to doing my own template development. I shipped out the last commissioned templates last week so I have time now to rework my own. I have several gigs leading up to Christmas so I'll get time to try them out and post up the finished goods here.

BTW combining a Physical controller like the X1's with the iPad is Da Schist, solves many of the rotary issues the iPad has and allows the addition of many occasional use buttons in Traktor.

I'm still trying to make the relative mode controls in Touch OSC work worth a Damn. I dunno whether its just me or the things really don't work right?

BTW have you managed to set the colors in TOUCHOSC? Supposedly you can use MIDI OUT to Set Color values in TouchOSC But I can find the magic ingredient combination to make it work. It has to be a combination of TouchOSC and OSCULATOR and I cnnot find any examples that I can learn from? I would love to be able to set text, color and enabled / disabled states based on MIDI Out messages.

Got some wicked stuff (ideas and prototypes stuff for S4 when it hits) too BTW.

    Hi PhilL

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like you've been busy too :) Your PD converter sounds amazing. To be honest, I took one brief look at PD and thought it looked quite a mountain to climb… you may have the answer everyone's been crying out for.

Don't get me started on colours… wasted a good couple of weekends on it with no joy (although learnt a lot more about Traktor LEDs in the process). My idea was to try and get cue buttons to change colour depending on their function, as in Traktor's UI. Like you, I've been looking for someone who has cracked it.

I don't know how many controls I have in TOSC but I have not hit a ceiling yet. What I do run out of is Traktor modifiers, then I realised last week that all modifying can be done in OSCulator. I've not figured it out completely yet but it would have made for much neater mapping and would have reduced the midi load on Traktor. Will your convertor work with these features?

Simple vs full featured pages is something I've been wrestling with too. The busy ones are virtually the same as my previous efforts, I've added some much simpler layouts with larger buttons this time. Figured I'd include a both options so folks can just delete the ones they don't want. I tend to use the simpler ones myself.

S4 may be on the horizon but I think I'll need a holiday before I get stuck in to mapping stuff for it - and if I spend anymore time glued to my laptop my mates will have forgotten what i look like haha!

Hei Phill.... have you managed how to change color and visibility on TouchOSC controls with OSCulator?

I know that you can change a color of a control sending an OSC message like this "/1/fader1/color green".

I have added a MIDI Out in Traktor called Hotcue State and i have seen that MIDI CC Values changes at the various cue types.

    Simple Cue value is 0.17
    No cue is 0
    Loop is 0.5
    .....
    ...
    ..

Now i can't manage how to tell OSCulator to send back "/color gray" when midi cc value is 0...

    Have you got an idea?

    Thanks :)
oh sorry for my bad english... i'm italian :|

Hi Phil, would you be able to share the beta by any chance? I've got Hexler's PD generator, and used it to generate the PD template file from the Arovia TouchOSC template. However, can't get the TSI file to work nicely, and I think it may be the PD translation issue. Arovia did provide the OSCulator file, so I'm hoping to get that translated. Anyway, if you have something that would be great.

    Thanks,
    Mohsen
