I know that TRAP music has becoming increasingly popular over the past year and I have been seeing quite a few producers using special characters in there names.

I know tractor recognizes a few, like the ∆ (option-j) but I was curious if you know of a way or if anyone knows if tractor will ever consider supporting these characters in the software.

in iTunes I like to keep my music collection as organized as possible and when it comes to keeping the artists and track names correct i like to keep them as close to what the original artist intended. grated it makes searching a bitch but if you know where its at, its easily browsed to.

for instance, producers like HU₵₵I and even FKi and Flosstradamus use it, FKi ✖ Flosstradamus. but it just comes up blank in Traktor and sometimes with a ? (the ? is used more in iTunes). Then there is artists like ƱZ who just have ridiculous track names, that almost always needs changed to even be able to understand what it says.

just curious, not sure anyone else on here just renames them (UZ, HUCCI) or if they keep the intended symbols?

I like keeping my music organized and keeping the artists, tracks, and album titles how the artist/producer intended.

I asked this question in another forum and the entire topic was lost and turned into a "you need to rethink or question your taste in music if the artists use symbols" I would like for this to stay on topic and hopefully see special characters show up in a later update of traktor.

as far as I have noticed: As long as the texts in your tag fields are UTF8 encoded, you shouldn't have a problem with those special characters. And this again is the default for the ID3V2.4 tags.

So, if you actually have some issues, like seeing the wrong characters, check the version of the ID3 tags. If they are ID3V2.3, convert them to ID3V2.4 (2.4 brought the UTF8 encoding).

If you don't see any tag information at all, you might have all your relevant information in the old crappy ID3V1.x part of the tags. In that case you need to copy them into the ID3V2.4 part. That actually is a bit tricky. The best app for that I found so far: http://kid3.sourceforge.net/
It's free and as far as I found the only software being able to actually see both tag versions and all (!) fields.

But for me I found, that nonetheless renaming some of those names and titles is a good idea from the search and find point of view. For quite some characters I wouldn't know, how to enter them in the search field... ;)
