I have 24 hours to make my mind up about buying one of these units but so far all the negative feedbacks is not giving me much confidence, I see that there is a lot of incompatible issues with pcs/laptops, crackling/buzzing sounds coming from this unit. I'm planning to be using this on a Dell 820, have most of the bugs been ironed out?

    Welcome =)

You have to remember that the people who aren't having issues won't be posting in the forum.

The most problems with AK1 concerns Mac laptops - and it's not NI's fault, but result of the very poor power managment in Macbooks (usb ports shares energy with built-in camera, bluetooth module and wifi module).
Pay attention to fact that this whole AK1 forum is one page only with relatively small amount of posts - if AK1 is so problematic,it will be plenty of heart-breaking posts etc.

By the way, I'll be happy if anybody answers my questions in neighbouring topic;)

Ah- the AK 1 forum's actually 19 pages, with another 4 pages under technical issues.

I'd guess you have last 30 days for your choice of posts...

Well that was weird, the forum wouldn't accept my password. Anyway thanks for the welcome ew :)

You know I was thinking the same thing about ppl not writing in WHEN it works, but seeing all the negativity is disconcerting ;).

I also wanted to ask is the the suitability, I initially wanted to have just a simple 2 x stereo master/monitor output from my laptop, so I looked at the Novation Nio, then I did some more digging and realised you can be more hands on with Traktor 3 but using Kontrol 1, for me this is a bonus, but I'll only be using it to dj from a laptop, do you think this would be suitable for me and not overkill or should I just got for a Audio4 DJ?

My AK1 has never died on me. It's a tank. Big knob (that I don't use at all) stays safe too.

Me too I'm musing on AK1 but 1/ I run Vista HP64bit and 2/ There's a voucher letting the buyer choose a synth, but I bought the Komplete Synth Bundle and I already have all four.

I wound need a confirmation that AK1 works under Vista HP 64 bit on a Q9450 machine with 4GB Ram with lots of space on a single sata drive.
Then I could contact NI and ask for some other voucher...

    Using AK1

    Hi,

Im also thinking of getting said interface. I use only software instruments, but I am wondering if it would improve playback sound quality, general audio processing, under Mac OS X leopard. I have the most recent iMac 2.8 Ghz Intel Duo. I would only use interface to sample small bits of audio for my drum sampler.

    GO FOR IT!
I think for the money it is really the best sounding card, MIDI in/out, midi assign, 4 outs, very flexible and compact, built like a tank and the best feature is it sounds GREAT.
what more can i say? :D

I went with the AK1 because I can see myself needing to hook up a mic now and then. The other plus was the large software bundle.

The 4DJ seems to have a nicer LED setup and a slightly lower price.

I am not sure about the internals. 4DJ definitely inherits a lot of tech form the 8DJ .. not sure about the AK1

Both the 8DJ and 4DJ are spinoffs of the AK 1. As far as I know, besides the different in/out configs, they're exactly the same hardware wise.

So both the Audio 4 and AK1 are virtually the same with the 4 having an extra two inputs? I just bought the AK1 (its above average excellent for production) though its not able to have four decks running on an external mixer due to the limited I/O? is this correct. And wont the same apply with the Audio 4? In other words to have four decks with each deck assigned to a channel on a 4 channel mixer i need the Audio 8.

Any help would be excellent, as i have just bought it, and i may still be able to exchange for either an Audio 4 or pay extra and get the Audio8.

    Thanks in advance!

The AK 1 uses 1/4" jacks, has a built in XLR input and can go up to 192k/24 bit for a sampling rate.

The Audio4 just has RCA ins and outs (4 of each) and can go up to a 96k/24 bit sampling rate.

The Audio8 has RCA ins and outs (8 of each) plus an XLR mic input,. Once again, it's 96k/24 bit.

Aha, thanks ew, that’s exactly what I wanted to know man. So it seems the Audio 1 is still the MVP sound card for quality and midi inputs, hmm it would be sweet to have and Audio Kontrol 4 or 8! Thanks again man!

Go for it. Ive gone through a number of different soundcards and this is by far the best. It sounds absolutely great and I can switch between my laptop and main PC seemlessly.
I had some issues setting up, but now its set up it works very reliably.

The only downside I can see is that you have to switch your speakers off every time the PC boots up and down. I wish the AK1 had some protection cirtcuity as other cards have. But that said, you get used to the rigour. As a small niggle its well worth it.
