Hi I hope your all well,

I was thinking about getting a machine mk3

I already have komplete 12 collectors edition and also have MPC 2.0 and an Akai controller.
As well as Logic Pro x and FL studio and a number of 3rd party samplers, synths and fx plugins

1st thing : Please can someone explain exactly what’s in the free library content?

I have a friend that uses Cubase and a machine MK2 he was saying how good it was but I cannot make my mind up

2nd: Is it worth it? Can I buy the sample packs on there own and will it work?
Is machine any better if so why?

    Many thanks

If you already have komplete 12 collectors ed, you wouldnt get anything new from a komplete 12 select. You wouldnt even need that.

I started off by buying the MK3 with Komplete 12 select, and it had a decent amount of content in it but I immediately bought the ultimate upgrade. I use the MK3 and maschine2 exclusively as plugins inside cubase 10.5 and I *love love love* this workflow and performance stuff.

There is a small learning curve for routing sounds/groups for the MK3 inside maschine2, but there are many people who can help with that here on the forums. Mod D-One has the perfect routing/config tutorials, including video, inside this forum.

I use: Akai advance49 controller, microKORG XL+, MK3 + maschine2 and Komplete 12 Ultimate all connected to cubase 10.5, and this is (so far) the best workflow and performance system Ive built.

    That’s really good info. Thank-you.
So I guess what your saying is there are no benefits software wise to buying machine. If I have Komplete 12 ultimate collectors edition? Apart from workflow?
And the hardware unit - seems that your impressed with ;)

Do you use MPC 2.0? I was wondering is there anything that does that machine can’t or vice Versa?

I am already comfortable using MPC and I like the workflow apart from the automation that’s just weird at first lol
But I am up for learning machine if it works out easier and faster to get ideas out.

What is the 8gb of included packs all about?

I use mainly Logic Pro X for most of my stuff. Mainly because of drum machine designer, alchemy and the ease of automation.
Also the es2 synth is banging when it comes to making unique transitions style fx. Because you can modulate LFO 1 with LFO 2 to get some really weird sounds, but they always seem to fit in the mix

But I also use FL Studio for some things and it depends on who I’ve got round working with me.
But then I will rout the mixer tracks from FL into logic as a plug-in and do my final bits in logic just because there’s a lot of stock plugins in logic I really like.

    Regards
    Craig

Modulating modulators that modulate modulators isn’t Maschine’s biggest strength. But then again, you have Komplete full.
Editing automation is pretty straight forward although it has it’s quirks. For example; you can’t copy-paste automation. At all.

The drumsynths are pretty good. The bass synth is pretty lame and has a weird “glide bug”.

It is a bad idea to compare it with Logic.

The effects I think are pretty good.

If you expect it to be a DAW, then I wouldn’t get it. As a production tool, it is the best I’ve used. (I can only compare to Elektron and pre-renaissance MPC’s, and your typical Groovebox)

As for an MPC comparison; I think the biggest difference is the drum and keygroup programs on the MPC compared to groups/sound way of working on Maschine. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. Although, Maschine is more limited, which could be a good or a bad thing.

Personally I do not use the MPC so I cannot compare/contrast with MK3 and maschine2.

Yeah, the MK3 itself is a beauty and (imo) the layout is great for my workflow. I perform and record most percussion and melody parts live on the MK3 or one of my other keyboards, recorded as midi, and then any audio processing or sequencing is done in cubase. I have experience with Live and older versions of FL, but I have lots of experience with cubase so I stick with it.

It is noteworthy that aftertouch isnt working in maschine2 yet, but NI is working on it. AT works if the MK3 is used directly in MIDI mode, and obviously AT is found throughout various content in the Komplete 12 library, but it hasnt made it into the maschine2 software yet. I use other controllers for AT, but look forward to it being brought to maschine2 soon.

Native is working on aftertouch implementation?
I assume with this they are also adding the ability to copy-paste automation and MIDI messages other than velocity? Without it aftertouch I think would be pointless almost, as you can’t overdub aftertouch in any way. Aftertouch is very much linked to note messages, so it should “stick” to any copy-pasted notes. I hope the developers working on this are of the sober kind :)

I read a thread elsewhere that claimed AT was one of the features NI was working on, but that it was challenging because of a specific problem caused by HOW the MK3 currently uses its AT data. I just bumped that AT thread that goes back to 2013, actually.

Thank you, DJ Benji. But what is the problem? Does the MPC Beats software comes with a free MPC or something?

Im grabbing that free MPC beats software now actually. Waiting for my download link.

I watched some videos of it and some lots of people talking about it on KVR, and it actually looks quite good for a free mini-DAW. The content included with it, including their synth, is what I am looking for. Ill be using it as a plugin in cubase. As a beat maker, it looks fun.

Lets see how long it takes for cubase to crash on MPC beats. =P
