You can find an explanation of the MIDI commands in my "Visual MIDI Guide" already. It is a free PDF document. Go to www.traktorbible.com, then click on Downloads/Visual MIDI Guide.

    merhaba! :)

there is already a list in the manual, but i agree, it could be a bit more detailed.

also i'd like to see more pics too, let's see if NI agrees on this, too.

current languages are english, german, french, spain and japanese. i'm sorry ATM no turkish or arabic translation planned, but i will forward your request!

@redjoe100: are you sure you opened the full manual? and not the quick start guide? > 200 pages will not fit on a cigarette packet, i guess.

@woozle: see above. regarding midi and modifiers, there are already real world examples in the manual, did you see them?
adding more would be out of the focus for the manual (it's not an tutorial).

I used to buy all these Guitar Player magazines to find out how Slash gets his signature sound or how Steve Vai ran those weird-sounding arpeggios (on top of all the fun gear porn and pics of chicks with big teased hair posing on amplifiers).... Perhaps a "real-world use" section could contain a tips & tricks section from celebrity/professional T(S)P users like Richie, GMF, maybe Craze and Klever, and the mighty Ean Golden? You know, a glimpse into their shortcuts, creative loop and effect manipulation, stuff like that. Even a sidebar every few pages in the manual or a preface in each chapter with a pertinent "pro trick" that NI is able to pry off the big bad boys. This may be going too far but if someone wants to emulate said pro user's setup you could list it if they consent; at the least it may mean added gear sales for, say, Maschine....or even people who take the plunge to grab an Audio4 or 8 and upgrading to timecode functionality.

Just some hazy ideas this rainy stoned morning.

    What happened?

The DJ forum is losing it`s thong? (I`ve been hanging around the Producer forum recently)
    No more senseless posts here?

Karlos, you`re taking the fun out of it.
    :p

Seriously, I`m all up for it for a revised manual, and I salute NG for starting this, even though I`ve gone off using TP in favor of Ableton Live8.

I still stand by my first post here, that the Traktor Bible should be included!

I know it`s detached from NI, and like many other books for other apps, it is to be used as an "additional" manual, but I`d like to stress the point that it might be a good idea to at least make it available through the NI shop.

    ;)

omg, those were the days! :)

sweet idea and i like it (the celebrity tips), but since all manuals of NI have to follow some certain CI, i doubt that i will make this happen soon. but i definitely forward this idea (of girls with big teased hair on turntables)!

I agree, to an extent, but I don't believe that this, or any other 'real world examples' belong in a manual.

I really think there should be a section of the forum that's update by the mods with regards to this, and the manual can link you to it. That way it stays dynamic and relevant as new updates come out.

I'm not talking about a general discussion here, I'm talking about posts like PhilL did twice - the Midi Modifier 101 (example). But instead of having people respond in these threads, they are locked and only for information purposes.

The manual is fine, seriously. I know I've asked in the past for a detailed listing of ALL midi commands...but those can be kept online as well.

My $.02 (or whatever that comes out to in Canadian, Euros, Deutchemarks, Pounds, etc)

    Included in what exactly ?

The Traktor Bible is a commercial venture for rainerh. If it was bundled with the Software the price of the software would have to be increased to reflect the Retail price of the book and rainerh would then have to have monies paid to him. Not only would this be a bit messy it would mean there would have to be an option on all Traktor Software to buy with or without the book because some people may not want the book.

If NI decide to make it available through the NI shop then great, happy days. Its just as easy to buy it from Amazon or wherever.

Not to put to fine a point on this, Rainer has worked long on hard on this book. Its worth every Euro it costs, then some. He deserves his reward.

NG is working long and hard on the Official Manual.
I stand by my first point , lets concentrate on helping her with that.

I'm with you here buddy. Honestly I couldn't have gotten to my current skill level with Traktor without the manual, but it was sufficient for me; I never really had to do a lot more research than opening the PDF or reading the printed manual. And how do you learn best to fix a problem? Break it yourself then back yourself out of it...hopefully at home where only your neighbours/wife/kids/parents can laugh at you and not in a hot sweaty club in NYC where you will be booed and possibly stabbed. BUT not everyone is jumping into Traktor from the same dock that we dove off of. Some guys/gals are learning to DJ at the same time as learning to use a Mac at the same time as learning to mess around with Traktor. I can see how they can get frustrated, it's like trying to learn to blow bubble gum while driving a stick shift while yodeling while rubbing your stomach while patting your head.

As for the keeping online with a link from the manual, that's even better than my stupid idea of putting it in the manual. Stupid TeLLy....stupid stupid man *cuts self with razor*

    .....aaaaaaaaaaand back on topic.

I am that guy who, all at the same time, is learning to DJ, figuring out Traktor Pro, as well as programming a light show using CompuLive Pro. I am just about ready to pass out. Bit off way too much for a show coming up too soon.

The manual is pretty good. I very quickly got the midi time code to work and sync with CompuLive Pro, however, I didn't see in the manual that you have to click on the metronome to bring up the midi clock. I am sure its there though.

I agree with a separate chapter on midi implementation and the modifiers. I patched together a bunch of different profiles to get my midi controller operating just the way I want it. With a full and deeper detailed explanation of the modifiers, I am sure there are tweaks I would do, if I knew how or what.

I would be in favor of a few real world examples. That would be quite helpful to illustrate a technical discussion and hopefully improve comprehension. The problem is a real world example useful for me as a beginner would bore, anger, frustrate others with years of talent and experience. If there an example on the key, beatgridding, or vinyl, I would be lost. If there were a beginner's example on good looping technique, that would interest me and would be a goal for me down the road.

Maybe a better way would be to call such sidebars in the improved manual, "Best Practices." For instance, beginners and experienced would benefit from a short tangent from the Professionals on good file management, advice on setting up the file browser, playlist development, etc. The manual could explain in deeper detail how to adopt these best practices.

Best of luck in the manual update, but please never lose enthusiasm in this forum. Many of my questions have been answered from the contributors here.

Adding a more detailed Tutorial section for traktor 3,Traktor Pro(Scratch) and NI Souncard Products would be a great tool. If you already have one let me know where to locate them.

What I would like to be included in the manual (I couldn't find it in the original, and haven't really looked in the addendums, so I don't know if it already has been added) is a mention for the people who use AAC-files that:

    1) Quicktime is required; even on Windows (especially, since on Windows it doesn't come installed automatically)
    2) and that only "M4A"-extension is recognised ("AAC"-extension doesn't work) as AAC-audio files.

Also, since we have seen so many posts where people find it difficult to set up their system (for timecode control) I think that part would need some working on - don't know how it could be improved though; on my opinion it is way better than most of the user manuals for mixers etc.

    Hi leon2103,

Free means that you can download the MIDI Guide free of charge, and it means that I still own the copyright. Please read page 2 of the MIDI Guide for more information.

Therefore translating and publishing it without my approval is a violation of copyright laws and not "fair play" too.

Sorry that I write this as clearly as I do. Fair play would mean to get in touch with me first and find a way to publish translated versions.

It would be really helpfull to reveal how the workflow inside Traktor is intended to be done, especially because it is changing with each major Traktor version.
Especially helpful would be to explain the secrets and the workflow of autoplay or cruise mode how it is called now.
What is the idea behind the new preparation list? What is the workflow?

It would be also great to find workflows for different DJ profiles. Wedding DJ, non mixing DJ, typical club DJ etc.

Another missing thing is to uncover track management. What is the idea? Where are tracks stored best (internal/external HDD). How to back up the collection in an efficient way?
I think the developers had something in mind, but for me it is impossible to guess.

I'm agreeing with cyberblade in full!

And also I would like an advanced section with a ton of tips on how to optimize your computer for Traktor PRO (to get rock solid stability and really low latency).

    Hi Rainer,

I know that you have copyright about this very helpfull midi guide, i did the translation but not for publish it, i never think like that, and also as i mentioned in my message i dont know the traslation quality, i translate it for use myself, thats why normally i didnt think to ask permission about when i translating, sorry about that, because you are right. When i see thes topic, i give the translation like an example and asked is this possible? Also i didnt know that you are the user of this forum, if i was i could ask from here weth P.M or etc. Also the translation may contains many errors, and no pictures in it because your original file is password protected as usual. Dont worry if you dont give permission, nobody can see the translated text. But if its will help for you i can send a copy, maybe you can edit and publish with your name etc. i dont know.
