I need to buy a new Windows laptop and have found one but after reading a thread on here from 3 years ago it says to keep clear of them. Is this still the case?

    Am running Traktor Scratch Pro

    Specs are:-

    Toshiba C660
    Intel i3 2.5ghz
    4GM Ram
    350 GB Hard drive

Thing is i keep reading horror stories of people buying new laptops and Traktor not working still.

I don't really want to spend a lot of money on something that doesnt work so am stuck reall as it seems it's just lucky if you get one that workd right.

    Any help please?

I've seen the threads. I bought a Satellite L755 last year and have never had any problems with it, plays nice and smooth. But I run it heavily optimized for Traktor, and never go on the internet w/ it. If someone were to use one right off the shelf, it would definitely be a little glitchy, as would any other Windows laptop. It comes down to how efficiently you can run it for the most part. The specs you mentioned are fine, I would just read up on the info on here about optimization tips for Windows machines, unless you're already familiar.

I read they had/have fan problems as im sure your aware of from the threads.
Just a risk to spend money on something you cant take back.

So hard to know what to do. I know how to optimize but from reading on here that still doesn't always help lol

I dunno, that's a pretty vague statement from years ago. Intel processors nowadays don't run as hot anyways, and are better at dealing w/ heat. The highest my core temp ever gets is low 60's, and that's when it's at high load analyzing music. It's normally mid 50's when I'm playing on it, which is just a little over the idle temperature. The laptop doesn't run hot and gets nice battery life as well, so it's such a non-issue that I've never looked any further into it.

Sounds like i should buy it then. Thread was 2008 and aimed at core duo 2.

Sure i3 processors are better now.

    I myself have a Toshiba Satellite R630-14H. (Core I3, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Win7 64bit)
The only complaint that other users have is that the fan is noisy, which I can also confirm.
But there are NO overheating problems.
The fan noise is just "loud(er)" compared to my old (non Toshiba) laptop. Especially on higher CPU load.

Had a 10-hour session running today using Traktor 2.5.1 (no Scratch) with the Audio 2 DJ and a Midi-Controller and had no problems.

Does the fan noise come out of the speakers or just from the computer?

No, there's no problem with speaker sound.

It's just the fan from the laptop itself, which can be noisy while rotating
(and it really becomes noticeable on higher CPU load and when you are working in more quiet sorroundings).

Buying a laptop seems such a minefield and im just scared of spending money and then it still doesnt work. Would be my worse nightmare.

Just seems a risk no matter what laptop you choose.

As you can see from my signiture i have a toshiba, run 2 X1's the F1 and have maschine on iy, with the audio 8, have not had any problems with it that are toshiba related, as long as you follow the tuning tips there should be no problems, the main one for me was disabling the acpi battery, which caused 0.5 sec dropouts once every hour or so,, since i turned it off, it runs real smooth with low tempreture and fan not even running on full speed.. :D

I have a Toshiba from 2009. It has an AMD Dual COre M300 in it.

The fan gets loud as hell on the laptop, but as another user said, only when heavily processing.

Traktor does tend to cause this.

That being said, I have only 2gb of Ram and a 32 bit OS.

I am upgrading to 64 and 8 GB of RAM, so in theory that should take care of the problem.

As long as you don't block the vents on the fan for cooling, I don't see why you'll have an issue.

I'll let you know how she runs after I perform surgery on her.
