So one of the changes to the Mac version of Traktor with the 2.9 update is that it's now a "real" full screen application, in that when you use the "full screen" feature in Traktor it now moves to its own "space" (like putting Safari into full screen, it rolls the desktop to the left and it becomes the only open window).

Using an 11" MacBook Air live means that I certainly use full screen, but I noticed that when you move back to the normal desktop (like to Finder for example) the screens on the D2 freeze until you come back to having the Traktor screen open again.

It wasn't like this in 2.8.1 ... Can anyone let me know if this is intended? The screens on the CDJ2000's still work like normal mine you, counting down time remaining etc, but it sort of defeats the purpose of having screens with all of this information available so you don't have to look at the laptop.

    Anyone else noticed this?

    Hi,

i can't try my idea cause i am on holiday right now.
Maybe the new OSX-Feature "App Nap" causes this issue.
Unfortunately you cant deactivate this feature for traktor alone (afaik), but you can do system-wide.
If this little workaround does not help here you can reactivate again.

Well how about they give us the option of having "full screen" use a "space" or the way it used to be where it maximised on the desktop.

At least then we'll have the option of full screen app with or without the freeze.

It all makes sense to me. If Traktor is no longer rendering graphics, on your Mac, then there is no waveform to send to the D2.

If you noticed the change between 2.8.1 and 2.9 then my guess is that it has something to do with stems, which I read somewhere, uses the gpu to send the split waveforms to the D2. These waveforms don't get rendered in the Traktor GUI.

You can have a full screen app. You just can't command+tab.

Still not sure why you need to be looking at your laptop anyway?

Well you know, I need to post on Facebook while at my gig to let my followers know where I am and what I'm playing ...

Now in all seriousness there are times when I want to check Activity Monitor or move tracks around (between folders or USB sticks) and I'd like to be able to glance at the $500 screen that I've purchased to actually display what it's currently doing and show where the track is at.

It has nothing to do with Stems as it happens when I'm playing standard decks, it is all to do with the change to Traktor being a "full screen app" that uses its own "space". If I don't use "full screen" then it's all fine, except that the menu bar at the top wastes 30 or 40 pixels of height on my 768px of vertical resolution.

It's really simple, give us the option to use full screen like it used to be (desktop full screen) or the new full screen option as its own "space".

Why don't you make a keyboard mapping for Full Screen On (toggle) and use the same space as Traktor is using to do what you need to do? I've just tested it and no D2 display freeze.

Why should I need to do anything different from what I've been doing, it worked just fine the way it was. Forcing the full screen into its own "space" certainly does not improve anything when it causes hundreds of dollars of hardware based around well crafted and useful screens displaying real-time information of currently playing tracks to FREEZE.

    What an F-ing joke.

So it seems that they've solved this with the current 2.11.1.22 beta thats currently out.

You can now 3 finger swipe between full screen app spaces (as in the Traktor "space" and the Desktop "space") and the screens don't freeze.

A very welcome fix ... although it is 2 years since I first posted about it!

Be grateful it was addressed at all since it had to have affected only a small portion of users.

Yeah, there aren’t many who have purchased S8’s ... less have purchased D2’s and less again S5’s (IMO)!

I do however find that it’s poor form to take 2 years to fix something that was not broken to begin with. They didn’t need to change the way full screen worked, moving to Apple’s “spaces” style full screen was a conscious decision they made for whatever reason.

I’m sure we’re just lucky here that it also broke the Maschine Studio screens in the same way ... and they needed to fix that before the release of the Maschine Mk3 or it would have suffered the same fate.

I was thinking more from the user point of view than the number of units sold.
I see lots of people using S8's and D2 ( the S5 not so much) but I don't know many people who are Mac users that flip around on their computer while working.

The use case that I put in my bug report to NI was someone who wants to use Maschine and Traktor at the same time, and being able to flip between both programs while in full screen (I have an 11" MacBook Air, every pixel counts for me, lol), or if you use Ableton and Traktor. Having the screens on the S8/D2/S5 is meant to HELP you so you don't need to look at the laptop screen, and when they just freeze it sort of defeated the purpose.

The thing I do however like about the "spaces" style full screen is the 4-finger swipe between apps, so much better than having to hit keyboard buttons!

Anyhow, it's all working now which is great.

And what's important is they fixed it instead of focusing on whether or not it was important to a few users or just Mac users.

Me I love the screens on my D2s as well as my Studio so I agree that when something hinders the aspect of using the screens it can be annoying.
