Syncing TP/TSP with Ableton, I’ve ran searches on this topic only to have unanswered threads on older versions of Traktor.

So I’ve been trying to run Traktor as master and Ableton as slave on just one computer and with only the Audio 8 as the interface. First, is this even possible? How? The way I read the manual makes it seem impossible. Where you at hackers?

Maybe I’m a noob but from experience I’ve found that when I start Traktor first then the Audio 8 midi ports aren’t available in Ableton. They’re in red and per Ableton this means the usb/midi port is already in use. If I start Ableton first I can’t select the Audio 8 midi ports within Traktor.

I believe this is why the reWire technology has been developed however Ableton doesn’t recognize Traktor as reWire program. Do I need another sound card and or computer? Would Asio 4 all solve this possibly?

I’ve also tried Ableton as master and Traktor as slave but as you can imagine, I have the same problem. I will post more details of my tests when I’m off work. Any input is appreciated…

    http://www.djtechtools.com/2008/04/04/smart-mixing-traktor-with-ableton/

This tutorial worked like magic for me. I didn't use the preset ableton setups it talks about. I just configured everything within virtual audio cables, midi ox, and midi yoke.

I know virtual audio cables does not work for Mac, but I think there are other programs like soundflower that work.

Nonetheless, I believe this guide will generally show you how to do what you want. Hope it works.

Thank you for the link. Sorry for my late response...

Are you using Traktor Pro this way or Traktor 3+?

I have everything working with Traktor Pro and live 7.12 but with live slaved at 136 BPMs it jumps around from 170 to 190 to 110. It never stays contstant and is rendererd useless.

Is this a bug with the midi clock that is being sent from traktor pro? Has anybody got this working in traktor pro?

I'm going to check and see how my system operates with this scenario under traktor 3+.

I'm using traktor pro, but I run into the same problem. I have my set at 130 and it jumps from 128 to 132. I'm not quite sure how to get around this problem. I've been trying to figure it out for a while myself. Hopefully someone else has solved this issue.

Mine doesn't stay in sync at all. You're saying yours doesn't either, correct?

Ok, so I tried this on traktor 3.4 and had similar problems.

I also reversed the situation in traktor pro so live was the master clock. This worked a lot better and the bpm range only jumped one, two or three bpms so maybe with some tweaking after work I'll be able to get this **** in sync.

Everything points this problem to be within traktor and a clock that generates a bpm range that is +-40 bpms compared to what it's actually set at is not a decent master clock and at the moment doesn't seem to be a great slave either.

Every other program I slave to live or have live slave to doesn't have these problems. When I get home later I'm going to try to slave other programs and devices to traktor to isolate the problem.

    For those who are interested...

The best result I've gotten is from generating the clock from within MIDI OX and slaving LIVE and Traktor Pro to it. It works like a champ so far but I'll need to play on it for several hours before I have any confidence in it or if this is even the direction I'm going to go with my workflow.

i can confirm that slaving both Tpro and Live to another MIDI clock is working best. I slave both of them to the MIDI clock of a Xone:4D and it works perfect.

My friend and I did this on his Macbook Pro and had it work perfectly fine with no bpm jumps or anything. So, it can be done. I still have not figured out how to do it on my PC though.

I know I already asked this but are you saying you've done this on a mac w/ TPRO as the master clock?

I'd like actual examples and details on how this was accomplished. Thanks!

I think it's confirmed then that TPRO as a master clock is suspect...

The program is awesome, the problems/bugs, not so much.

    Cheers,

    Coleman
