Is this normal for Live + KK? Automatic Track Focus doesn't just choose and instantiate the KK or Midi mode, but it exclusively record arm's the track. This makes recording impossible. Surely I'm missing something.

Note: I am using the KK VST in Live and everything is up to date but I'm using Yosemite. I appreciate any help!

Is this the software or the keyboard?
Today the track select navigation L-R buttons are bugged out. The L arrow will work, incrementing through each Ableton track but when it gets to track 1 I cannot increment to the R and the midi template will not substantiate, the S61 stays locked on the KK in track 2.

Worked pretty good last night, although it could take some back and forth with the L-R buttons to make it "catch."

Also Shift+Instance is functioning but it SHOULD NOT when being used in Ableton. !

Rebooted the S61 and now the midi control DOES substantiate for track 1. But still the R arrow is not working. buggy!

What are your MIDI settings (screen shot?)

When you use the KK keyboard to navigate the tracks (using L/R) it record enables the track so you can start playing. That is certainly normal.

The navigation and transport controls send commands to the "DAW" driver which should be set as a control surface. This driver should NOT be set as an In/Out in the MIDI Port Preferences

    Untitled.png
If you then have some of those controls working (such as some navigation controls but not others) that is strange. Have a look in the top right of Lives window next to the MIDI button. When you press a control surface button you should see 2 LED indicators flash (one is a receive/send command). If it flashes when you press a button but doesn't actually do anything then that would suggest an issue with Live or the scripr itself. If it doesn't flash at all then it is either a hardware thing or possibly a script issue (or not setup in Midi settings).

One thing to note with track select (which I REALLY wish there was a fix for) is it works great when you use the keyboard to select tracks. But if you use another controller or your mouse/keyboard to select tracks the KK does not follow and remains on the last track it was on. You have to use the KK to then switch to a track and back again to gain focus. This has caused me to stuff things up or record onto the wrong channel so many times it's prompting me to re-write parts of my initial glowing review of the thing.

Sorry it took so long to get back.
Yes but it deactivates my other tracks that are recording simply by navigating between 2 tracks. I've tested the prefs in Live to no avail.

Yes I have DAW-1 set as I/O in my setup, but control surface dropdown isn't offering Komplete Kontrol! And youre saying all Midi Ports should be off? I see a couple on in your setup but can't tell which ports they are.

Ouch!! NI makes it hard to do anything but the basics. I'm just hoping to toggle between 2 tracks and play the synths/pianos. Reliably. All the while recording them and playing back a few other tracks in Live. I'm close! but how hard could it be? Strange other thing is that my Transport controls are playing musical notes using either KK or Midi Control.

Cool! Live rig is working. It was turning off Remote in the KK I/O Midi Port. Now to find out the missing control surface.

Solved the navigation. Thank you VERY much. The midi script had been mysteriously "disappeared".

But there is one last GLARING problem. Navigating to tracks in Live STOPS ALL RECORDING of all other tracks. Surely I am missing something.

    You are

In Live, Preferences > Record, make sure you have "Exclusive Arm" set OFF.

You then need to record arm Manually the tracks you wish to navigate between. As long as the keyboard navigates between armed tracks all will remain armed. If, however, you navigate to a track that is NOT selected already as armed it will be armed by the KK Keyboard and all other tracks will be unarmed.

It works the same on other controllers that take control of tracks (such as Abletons own Push)

So this is buggy and broken. The behavior you describe would be acceptable but S61 is buggily not updating between two tracks, one of which uses a midi control template and one using Komplete Kontrol. All the settings the same as yesterday. But if I navigate the arrow key a bunch of times to the R and back to my two synth tracks it SUDDENLY starts UDATING CORRECTLY. This of course destroys all my armed tracks.

    Maybe a Hardware Agent problem?

OK!~ brand new computer MBP2015 clean install. Same behavior. Unless support can solve this it will be all synths on one track. I wish NI's products would just be a pure pleasure sometimes. Thanks for your explanations.

Everything works great. Until you want to record anything more than THE ONE TRACK THAT IS IN FOCUS. If I do not have any tracks record-armed, S61 works as it should. If I arm my other synth track or some other tracks, to be recorded simultaneously, track focus fails and I cannot use the S61 knobs for the intended track. I would be surprised if I were the only human on this planet who wants to record more than one track at a time.

    BUG OR FEATURE?

I've just read through MIDI script. It's seems that is intended behavior. When you navigate track via arrow button:

    1. If selected track is not armed, arm selected track exclusively.
2, If selected track is already armed, do nothing.
    3. Auto focus feature works only when case 1.

You could see some authors helpful comments in the script(FocusControl.py). Maybe you could modify the script easily to change behavior.

I love that there is hope here. I would be surprised if modifying a script were stable enough live performance. ? I'm REALLY surprised this isn't a feature.

Do you just want only always auto focus on selected track ? I don't know what you want exactly, but I think you don't have any other options. Let's modify it. Stability? don't worry about just a few lines of script. My car is damn fast because of modifying everything what I want. The manufacturer may not like that. I don't care about it, also stability too:). Nowdays, product lifecycle is really short. Have maximum fun!
