I own a Macbook Pro Retina. This is my first time opening Traktor Pro 2 (2.7.3.)
as i've just bought the Traktor S2 MK2.

Traktor freezes every time I load it and the red info box just says "Status:
Initializing". The only way is to force quit the application from then on. Even
leaving it for hours on end, nothing changes. I looked up online and people have
had a similar issue with OS X Yosemite but there didn't appear to be a solid
    answer or fix.
I then downloaded the Beta version of Traktor '2.7.4'. This version loads however
does not recognise my Hardware (S2 MK2) as a controller. It does have it as an
option under Audio Device and it's one separate heading under the Preferences but
the controller still remains lifeless. The most i have got out of the controller
is the colourful light display when first turning on the controller. It then goes
back to lifeless with nothing other than the USB light on. The actual Macbook
recognises the controller and lists it in a separate row on the 'System
    Preferences' - "NI USB Audio".

I've re-downloaded and re-installed Traktor Pro 2 several times incase there was a
problem as well as re-downloading the Controller Editor and re-installing anything
    from the Service Centre.

I don't doubt the controller is functional as everything seems in order. I'm just
assuming I'm in a blind spot of the new update paired with the Yosemite Operating
System and then the Beta version of 2.7.4. not communicating properly with the S2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First i would recommend open a support ticket to get some official help..they may take a while.

Also make sure your s2 Mk2 has the latest firmware. there were major issue with this a while back that was fixed by a firmware upgrade to the hardware.

For me all of the 2.7 releases were problematic and would not recommend anyone use them...just to much risk of a crash.

2.6.8 seem to be the most stable release.

Hope that helps. Oh also if you do go back and install 2.6.8 make sure you do a clean uninstall of the other version before installing 2.6.8

    Hope this helps.

Yeah I did that and got a reply but they too said about updating the firmware, i double checked and it said i had the most up to date firmware for my controller. 2.7.3 was first install of Traktor which wouldn't open followed by installing 2.7.4. Beta so I don't have any other versions at my disposal. I've attempted to get older versions online but they all seem to be a bit dodge (fill out survey for your download types). Are there any clean cut ways of getting a solid older version download?

Really appreciate you getting back to me :)

I still have found only 2.6.8 to be the best version to use. I'm not sure whats going on with any of the newer versions, but they won't function for me at all... sigh.. anyway yes if you go here: http://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/updates/ and login you should be able to EASILY download older versions. Many disagree with me, but once you download the older version, GET RID OF THE NEWER VERSION!!!! Just simply delete them =)

Also ti doesn't hurt to go to your documents folder where your version of Native Instruments is and DELETE the Traktor Settings .tsi file. It won't mess with your library or collection. Make sure Traktor is shut down when you do this. When you restart Traktor, you'll be prompted through the setup wizard, but it can seemingly clean things up some times for me....
