Have been messing around with 2.8.0 for a few hrs now, seems pretty solid, however when I click on the BPM tab to sort my tracks by BPM it doesn't work fully in the explorer. Most tracks will be in order, but some are out of place. It works perfectly when sorting in Track Collection.

On a side note - is there a way to set a midi button to sort by BPM/Key? I looked through all of the midi commands in the settings and couldn't find anything...

Could it be that you did not allow ample time for the tags to get read in explorer. This has always been the case for me on any version of Traktor. Reason behind it is because most of my tracks are sorted by genre and then year. So for example, my Dance - 2014 folder has 20895 songs in it. Use of explorer is basically useless. Explorer is really your best bet as it pulls it from your collection.nml file. This file can get pretty big too. Mine is around 250M in size and takes a good couple minutes for Traktor to completely load. On the bright side, using the search is not terrible.

Thanks for your reply - I have noticed in older versions what you are talking about, the tags have to be loaded before the list sorts....

However this is not the case with me with 2.8.0, the folders that I was browsing in had 20 - 100 songs in them and were opened for at least 10 mins...

    Anyone else seeing this?

I had a similar issue with sorting,
I noticed it was tracks I had just analyzed, so I emptied the decks of those tracks then selected a different folder, selecting the folder again and sorting was normal.

I think it has something to do with the collection and analysis.
    I haven't tested this much.

I have the same problem and have forwarded it to NI who say it's a known issue. Basically, most/many files get sorted correctly, but then the remainder only get sorted by filename. Same files always. I only just upgraded to the new Traktor but it's very frustrating not being able to sort by bpm and key especially (as well as import date). I read somewhere that "add to collection" must be done before analysis but haven't tested this and can't verify. I really don't want to remove and import all my files again (it took many hours).
It SEEMS like it should be a simple thing to fix but hey, what do I know!

    NI support are aware:
TP-10854 Keytext sorting is broken with the explorer node

TP-8515 Import date does not work with sorting

    TP-10975
sorting by BPM broken in explorer node

UPDATE: I have tried a few different things (removing then re-adding tracks, smaller folders) but I have this sorting problem always. In some folders or playlists, less than half the tracks won't sort by bpm. I do have some huge folders but my old Traktor from 2008 didn't have this problem. I bought an i7 and a Z1 specifcally to be able to dj better but it's the opposite. I wish I never had! For my purposes, sorting is more important than remix decks, looping, fx, etc. I have other issues with Traktor too; sometimes it takes ages to load a track into a deck (over a minute!). This is a big problem when playing live. NI really needs to SORT this out (pardon the pun).

I had the same issue, however it was only while in Explorer that these issues were apparent. Whilst in the playlists I had created from the explorer directory, I had no issues sorting by BPM with everything in perfect order.

I'm not sure why this is an issue, perhaps because your preference files are not attached to the explorer folders, but only to the playlists. Sorta makes sense when you think about it to reduce over heads with performance on the fly.

I hope this response helps someone :)

thx for the info but I don't know what you mean about the preference files; do you mean the Traktor settings files like .tsi? ...since my first post I have been djing a lot with my new rig but the sorting problem remains and it doesn't matter if it's a playlist or just explorer. If I have a small playlist (say, under 50 files/songs) they will get sorted properly but most of my folders are genres which have hundreds or thousands of files. I can't see any pattern but 30-70% will sort properly but the rest always sort by filename. I always import, add to collection and/or analyse new songs. I tested my hard drive and it seems fine.
In regard to slow load times, often when I click on one of my folders Traktor will "scan" the files even after the files got scanned only minutes before. This seems to get in the way of loading the next track quickly. Last week djing my song had 90 sec left and I tried to load the next track but it loaded after 90 sec; I quickly started VLC and just played a track from there! Often tracks take over 30 sec to load which is ridiculous. This seems to apply only to songs that haven't been loaded/scanned/played in that session. My 2008 Traktor on my 2008 laptop never had this problem. Could this be a corrupted Traktor settings file (like collection.nml)? I don't know but it's really pissing me off and I wish I never "upgraded"! I might re-install and start over although it took many hours to import everything to my collection.

thx for your info; I was wondering if my collection file was too big at 22mb but I feel better knowing other ppl have much bigger files. I keep arriving at my dj gigs earlier to allow 15 min for Traktor to do its scanning but even after the scanning is done, it rescans the folder(s) during my set whenever I click on a different folder or playlist. This is unecessary because the scanning already got completed in the same current session (i.e. without quitting Traktor). The slow track loading is now my main issue.
I know what you mean about leaving enough time for the scanning (or tags to be read) but even after they're all scanned/read, sort doesn't work fully AND some tracks take a long time to load. If I click on a folder or playlist I rarely use then Traktor will start scanning that folder and my HDD light gets busy. This seems to get in the way of loading a new track whereas loading a new track should get priority over background scanning.

Sorting tracks, click on the name of the column header to sort tracks by ascending or descending.
Traktor manual - 5.5.5 Sorting Playlists
You can set traktor to analyze your tracks automatically either when loading a track into a deck or after importing it into your collection.
Open Preferences > File Management to select/unselect the options to analyse not.
Traktor manual - 13.19 File Management

I think 90 seconds to load a track to a deck is too long!!!

Sorry, I may have the terminology incorrect. I mean that the files that are in explorer are just RAW files with no indexing Traktor files attached to them for CUE points and async settings and so on. While they are in a playlist though they have this indexing file attached to them permanently until removed from said playlist. This is my understanding of it however, and I could be entirely wrong. I just know that sorting in a playlist after analyzing the tracks it sorted correctly by BPM. The same process did not work in explorer.

Oh and I just read more of your posts. Most of what you're describing with load times is because you haven't analyzed each playlist initially. Do this before you leave your house, it can take some time depending on how many playlists/files you need to analyze. They should load straight away after that, unless you make changes to the track. If they are taking too long to load they haven't been analyzed before.

Thanks Matt. The thing is, I always analyse and import new tracks when I start Traktor. When I first installed Traktor I left it analysing for hours overnight. The long load time doesn't seem to be linked to what Traktor calls "analysis"; i.e scanning the song and determining bpm, key, etc. It's relating to "scanning". Analysis may take a few seconds per track, scanning is faster than a track per second (but still takes ages with thousands of songs).

For example, I have everything already imported and analysed but when I click on my House playlist Traktor starts "scanning" all of the tracks from 0-z. When this is done (5 mins later), the tracks from the House playlist will usually load quickly. Then I click on my Disco playlist; same deal. BUT if I go back and click on/open my House playlist again, it starts "scanning" them all over again. The scanning is different (quicker) than analysing. It just seems to be verifying that the tracks exist, not analysing for bpm, etc. But it seems to get in the way of loading a new song. I think I just need to bite the buller and re-install a previous version which may help, and also rebuild the collection.nml file. Anyway, I think I'm off topic now; I started with my sort problem and now I'm onto my load time issue. They may be linked though.

I had the same issue. In my case the problem was caused by the fact that the files have the read-only attribute. When I removed the attribute from the files and re-analyzed tracks, the problem went away.
