Why should 2.6 users expect a free update to 3.0?

2.5.3 users got a free update to 2.6, I'd be very surprised if we got a free update to 3.0

Also, the fact that as a 2.5.3 user, I got a free upgrade to 2.6, is one of the reasons that I'm not that annoyed about 2.6's unsuitability for life performance. ....I didn't pay for it, so I can't complain, & I've always got 2.5.3 which works perfectly.

...Now if I'd paid for 2.6, then it might be a different story!!!

Wow...that must be nice!Just about every time I play after a vinyl dj the left turntable wont calibrate or wants to play backwards so suddenly my set goes to hell while I fumble for a record, rebooot my computer several times, unplug and replug and swith ports of firewire cables and carefully go through the "checklist" to make sure no line/phono switches got flicked,no dust on the stylus, cables are all tight etc. Then when I'm about to give up and walk away with my head low it suddenly works again.Every bloody time!
The worst is when the first mix works so TFS is locked down and then the other side won't calibrate when I switch from vinyl to timecode. Can you say screwed!?

I don't play in big clubs or anything, usually just small outdoor parties of say 250 max...bit it still sucks just as bad to have to wave the next DJ up because it just aint gonna work out!
    Great advertising too...lol

But since yours worked nice last week I guess I'll stop complaining!

of course i'm feeling sorry for all that ever had problems - we all know they usually happen in a live situation where you can't think clearly...

when i'm spinning with vinyl colleagues i always shut the timecode button off, while i'm not spinning. if you don't, fs tries to read something from the *real* vinyls and i always have a feeling of fs getting a little bit sluggish then...

when you start spinning after someone else, make sure that there is no dust under the stylus. fs doesn't like that and refuses to calibrate sometimes then. also, check the timecode picture in the setupmenu. if it's too small you can get problems with calibration too. and: check the rumble threshold!!

another thing comes to my mind.... if you say *playing outdoor* - are you using a diesel generator for power? their power flow is usually shaky - could be a possible problem too.

    Good points native_girl.
Although none of them are new to me,I appreciate the suggestions.

Perhaps we should have a thread dedicated to this topic.
"troubleshooting steps when FS won't calibrate"

The point I am trying to make in this thread is really that NI should iron out all of the bugs in this version before asking us to pay for yet another upgrade.

I find their dedication to existing products rather disappointing!

I dont think it will be long until 3 and I dont think 2.6 users will get a free upgrade. Why? Because Beatport are selling it at half price until the end of August...$119

I'd agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that NI markets the traktor product line (TDJS/TFS) as a a powertool for DJs - not just a standard player software. Unless they are going for the poweruser portion of the market, why bother having built-in EQ, master tempo, filters, cue points, midi-control, looping and mix record files (which basically amounts to a form of sequencing)?

NI made the choice to position themselves in the market this way, and honestly that is the only reason I chose Traktor over SSL, for power user features they already had and the implied promise that they would add other such features in the future. IF NI is to fulfill this promise, they need to at least add the option to use 3 (or even 4) decks.

I used to use 3 decks regularly when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area because the clubs actually had 3 set up. Where I live now in Hawaii, there isn't anywhere set up like that, but I would love to have 1-2 software decks on top of my 2 usual FS vinyl controlled decks.

I wouldn't personally have use for a sampler, it isn't really that necessary because I can loop from within Traktor. BUT, I understand the importance of it for some power users and the reason it needs to be there is the same reason they need more than 2 decks and why they have features like filters, midi control, etc. Even if only 10% of users ever use all of those features, they need to be there in any full-featured professional DJ software because DJs need software that will grow with them and allow them to do new things once they have mastered the other simpler things.

I agree - being able to spawn new virtual decks is a must. Then as you say, rather than use a sampler, you can just use a loop on a new deck instance.

Traktor started off in my opinion as a way of migrating vinyl DJ's by giving them a comfortable 2-deck interface. Its gone way beyond that now and we need more decks. It doesnt make sense that vinyl DJ's have this over us. The whole point of digital is to capitalise on the 'free' nature of virtual decks. I should be able to spawn 10 decks if I so desired and my pc could take it.

The same applies to effects. I've heard the arguments about the cpu not being able to deal with it but people that want to use them will upgrade.

Its like if I am serious about playing the new PC game, Battlefield 2 competitively, Im going to spend the money on a new ATI x850 graphics card. If Im just playing it for fun I can stick with my radeon 9800, turn all the detail levels down and laugh it off whenever I get shot due to stuttering framerates.

vst support would be amazing!Maybe lots of people would never use it and maybe I would only use it occasionaly...
...but damn it would be a nice feature to have as a possibility!
Kind of nice to be able to throw a harmonic exciter or what have you depending on the needs of the sound system available,or to just get crazy with fx.
I am still trying to figure out a way to "rewire" the audio from the scratchamp internaly so that I could route through a vst host.Trouble is is that even if this can work,I need to use a second soundcard to route the audio into the mixer....I think?
Yet another potential discussion in a seperate thread I guess.

    Gave up already

    I don't even have TDJ2.6 working.

I sent in my original v1 amp (I bought the beta version and every version since) as part of the trade in program... it took 6 months for them to send me my code (after a few months of telling me that I was in the system, but they hadn't got my V1 ScratchAmp)...

I had the demo running for the 30 days and loved it (minus some bugs I could work with) but when I finally got my "code" and tried to register it, it keeps telling me my system ID is invalid ?

I have compleately given up on their tech support, anytime I've mailed them it's been weeks before they get back to me with some lame "cut and paste" reply that shows they weren't even reading my email...

Phil (I think from stanton) has been nice, but even he has said he's embarrased by the fact that the NI support is so awfull, it took him 3 times to get them to even reply to me at all.

I just had a buddy over who also plays tracktor and it was fun to jam on it, but I'm so depressed about the amount of time I've spent trying to get their products to work on my various machines over the years ... and I just can't summon the energy to spend more time on it trying to get it sorted.

In short I've completely given up on it in frustration and now it's basically just a better external soundcard for my laptop... I can still run FS2 and do from time to time, but compared to the features in TDJ2.6 it feels particularly anticlimactic... Once you start getting into looping and jumping around in the tracks with cue points,,, You can't just go back to FS2 and do a purist DJ set... just seems wrong.

I can't say how disapointed I am, it's such a cool product and it definately opens new doors creatively, but I concur with the general sentiment that they've got to get the bugs out of current platforms before trying to upsell a new version.

They also need to work on their support side of their offerings, for me to have dropped a grand on something and to not be getting better service than I did is rediculous. I should be their biggest evangelist, instead I'm at best luke warm when people ask me about it.

I for one WILL NOT be buying anymore upgrades.

I actually wish that I'd stuck with my stable 1.5 version as I don't feel like what I have now is any better. I bought the upgrade FOR TDJ2.6 not for a firewire version of 1.5 which is basically what I've got now.

    Re: Gave up already

@djriel I have sent your info into the NI team and if you haven't already, please file a support Form ASAP and post your case number back here. I will email that info directly to Marius who will look up the issue and get you fixed up quick smart. Be aware that to begin this process properly you HAVE to file the support form to get things working. My personal experience with registration support by Email matches yours to in the past it would be interesting to hear about recent engagements with registration support within the last 10-14days.

I'm not going to address the Stanton support reps comment except by saying that many other here experience in the past with Stanton Support is no better or is worse than NI. What I can say about NI support today is that many people are working hard behind the scenes to address the currrent slew of issues and support process problems. It hasa ways to go but things are improving!

I can get your situation fixed pronto once you file the support form.

    Jesus man!!!

Phil, sholdn't this be a "Traktor 3.0 news" thread?
I mean, no disrispect to those who experience problems with the current software, but everytime i see the title in bold font, i run to see what's going on, and i have foud just that 1 post is actually about traktor 3 news.
Why don't you just change the title to 2.6 support and start a new thread only writable by admins, to se actual news of 3.0 and not 2.6 biatching.

I don't even use 2.6, and look forwared to see if 3.0 fulfills my expectatives, so, Unstick this thread and create a new one only of 3.0 news. I think some of us would appreciate this.

    Thanks a lot dude!

Should I just wait for version 3? I was thinking about picking up 2.6 up. I already own Ableton Live, but I also wanted something just for 2 Deck, track-to-track mixing.

Here's a minor deficiency in Traktor 2.53/2.6 that could be easily fixed in 3.0:

Normally I browse for tracks with the browser set to "Track Collection" and have the tracks sorted by BPM. Generally I look for the next track to be similar to the current track BPM.

But then I might remember a nice track by artist name or title, so I go search for it (hit "go" in 2.53) which brings me to a view of the list of tracks that are the results of the search. So maybe I select one of those tracks if the BPM is acceptable.

Then I go back to the normal browser "track collection" view, and it puts me RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE LIST, at some BPM which is very far away from the current playing BPM. This is where the problem is. Then I must go scroll through my big collection to find the right BPM again for more tracks. Since I do a track search several times in a session, probably like many others here, this is not efficient.

I'd suggest that the browser should NOT go to the top of the track list in this situation, it wastes a lot of user time. Just return to the previous BPM shown in that view of the tracks collection.

The same general idea applies in other situations - just program the browser so it doesn't always go to the first track, but it goes to a track that makes more sense. Better usability in other words.
