All of the “tuning” that I did appears to have made things worse. This should not be happening. My 2011 hp never did this to me.

Unfortunately, Dell XPS are notorious for having severe DPC Latency issues, which can be difficult up to impossible to fix (on top of that, Traktor 3 seems to have become a lot more flakey when it comes to DPC Latency related drop outs).
For the know dell issues, see:
    https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-15-9570-DPC-latency-ACPI-SYS/td-p/6113042/page/12

    https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=XPS+latency

Make sure you write to Dell as a frustrated customer, as manufacturers need to feel people care about audio, for it to be considered fix worthy... and they've been twiddling their thumbs on this for years unfortunately.

Swollen batteries... Audio trip outs... etc... terrible. Every dell I've ever had before this besides one desktop has been solid. This sucks. I sent this laptop in because the battery swelled so much that the track pad looked like a ski jump. They actually fixed that out of warranty for free. When the laptop came back, fresh win10 install with traktor 2.10 or better, and it stuttered. It would grind to a halt, the whole system would freeze, and then it would come back.

Last night after wanting to toss this system out the fing window, I killed off everything, uninstalled backblaze (even though it wasn't running) and killed every chrome process. When I did that, it stopped doing the high-load halting, but did the same thing it did with traktor 2.10 where the whole system grinds to a halt and then slowly comes back.

I have a surface pro 4 256GB version as my mobile photo/video machine. I want to try that, but I don't think I can clear off enough space to put on Traktor and my itunes library.

OK, I had my first show with no hiccups last week.
    1) remove all the dell software
    2) maxed out latencies
    3) kill all chrome
    4) used a 130w plug instead of 90w

I don't want to jinx myself this week. The UI froze a few times searching, but my library is excessively large (500K tracks last time I looked).

after all your crying its like some miracle happened and its all ok now? give me a break mate. Screams user error as usual.

That laptop will piss traktor all day long, ive been using the same model for 2 years now. Scrub up on your I.T. skills mate.

Already tried a fresh install of windows, only had traktor on it. It did 2 things, jack and squat. Same exact stutters. I can not keep the laptop off line while I'm doing my show. Also, I posted what I did in 4 steps right before you posted. Maybe read before posting?

And my HP Envy went from 2011/2012 until 2016 with Traktor 2 with never a hiccup. The more powerful dell xps 9550 that I got in 2016 has been nothing but issues.

Use another PC to broadcast your show. As Andy said keep your DJ laptop offline.

Repeating the same singular experience based nonsense that goes against all crowd based findings doesn't make it more true...
I.e. as a whole, the Dell XPS line has always had severe doc latency issues...

I couldn't give a flying f* about a company behind a product. But releasing tech/product that's just not up what should be basic standards & functionality, that indeed rubs me the wrong way, and DPC latency has been a long standing issue in windows audio world, which companies have been ignoring as a 'specialist' area for far too long (as another fine case where DPC latency affected the average customer, look at the issues NVidia had when releasing their high end gtx cards, 1080 etc... fun times for people who paid 1000$+ for a graphics card and then had youtube audio crackle on them after 'upgrading'...).

But judging by the staggering amount of misinformation & delusion you're putting on display on a regular basis here, I doubt there's much point to yet again point to the facts, but maybe it helps others considering an XPS laptop for audio production, and they should be warned...

So here's 2 posts by Frank Azor, the manager responsible for the XPS line at Dell, offering a release that was meant to fix the well known issues with audio & latency on Dell's XPS models:
Being made aware of the issues in 09/2018:
    Code:
    https://twitter.com/AzorFrank/status/1044479012389703680
Attempting to release a 'fix' in 04/2019:
    Code:
    https://twitter.com/azorfrank/status/1113053967179747328
Plus, a fact check by a respected hardware review site a month later, debunking the above claim again and that the wide spread issues have NOT been fixed with the above 'fix'...

Listen mate, the issue is with a messed up interaction between the chip and gpu that is specific to certain models of Dell laptops. Basically, your cpu is incorrectly reporting high temps and is triggering thermal throttling of the cpu. I had this issue about 7 years ago with many same symptoms, CPU spikes when nothing playing, youtube videos stuttering and dropping frames/choppy playback after just turning the laptop on from cold boot, etc..
NOT TO WORRY, there is a solution. Throttlestop. Run this app and first you will be able to see when this is happening, the core multiplier for your cpu speed starts to drop which can cut your cpu speed down to less than an eighth of where it should be. All you need to do is engage the feature in Throttlestop that locks the CPU core multiplier in place, then set the app to load with windows, minimized to tray, problem solved. It is worth reading the directions and explanation included with the free app, it clears it all up - trust me.

the turning point for me was simply uninstalling Dell SupportAssyst. I have a XPS 15 9560.
    https://github.com/pestrela/smi_counter#0-update

This way I can have dell updates without a problem.
