    Hi,

I purchased a new MacBook M1 Pro recently without thinking about the operating system and its compatibility with the DJ software that I use - incredbily rookie move from me as I've used Traktor since 2008 and should know better.

Prior to the recent update Traktor couldn't get past the settings window during opening without crashing. I have since installed the latest 3.5.2 update, but it was still crashing at the loading screen. Because of this I did a fresh install of Traktor and wiped everything off my laptop that was Traktor / NI related. Once done Traktor opened first time without issue. I tried to load my settings.tsi folder and collection and this resulted in the programme crashing a few seconds after and then crashing every time I opened it from there in. I re-installed again and didn't incorporate my settings or collection and the software continues to open ok without crashing - great - except I have no playlists or track collection.

Now I can get the programme open, I need to be able to play music from it. Traktor wouldn't want to play music internally via the laptop, I can load a track and press play and nothing happens. I go into the audio settings and set the audio device to MacBook Pro audio and it'll crash. If it doesn't, it'll crash when I press play on the track (without music playing). If it doesn't, the track won't play regardless and when I go back into the settings to change the audio device, it'll crash then, if it has not crashed at any of the previous stages. Frustrating.

I have persevered through a days worth of crashing to get the audio working via the laptop through the 'rekord box Aggregate Device' audio device. I've only noticed this Rekord Box option recently on my new and old laptop, assuming its got something to do with Rekord Box (which I have started using recently when promoters / venues give me a controller to DJ off instead of a full setup). Regardless, the music is able to play through the laptop speakers when this option is selected as the Audio Device. If I try to select the MacBook Pro audio, it'll stop the audio, the play button will be green but waveform won't be moveable - it also generally crashes when I try to change the audio device, but not every time.

Once the app has been open for 5-10 minutes, playing a track internally via the rekordbox aggregate audio device, it'll generally stop playing music. The play button will remain illuminated green, but nothing is playing. From here I would need to go and change the Audio Device to Apple Device and then back to Rekord Box device to get it working, but this causes the programme to crash - and I am back to the start.

This is just trying to get the software to play internally, in terms of connection to a Pioneer mixer, this is also proving impossible. I have tried it with a DJM 900 and a DJM 900 NXS2 and both don't allow music to play, as above, the waveform stays still and pressing play does nothing - followed by it crashing either before, during or shortly after. I have installed the drivers and have the settings utility on the laptop. Traktor is up to date, Monterey is up to date, drivers are up to date, hardware on the Pioneer equip is up to date.

Rekord Box seemed to work ok via a Pioneer XDJ-RX2, but crashed last night after around 90 minutes whilst I was using it at gig on a promotors XDJ-RR. In this scenario on the controller and the laptop, the waveform kept moving and the controller Channel and Master both had the LED's flashing to the beat, suggesting the signal was still there, but the audio to the club and also my headphones, was none. I put a usb into the controller and the music played straight away (thankfully). I tried to load a new track on the alternate channel with the laptop and the same thing happened, visible signal from the laptop looking at the LEDS, but no sound out of the sound system or my headphones. I restarted Rekord Box and the sound returned, but by this point I just finished my set on USB as I didn't want the sound to go off again.

Serato appeared to be the most stable when using a friends Pioneer DDJ-1000SRT, but I haven't road tested it at a gig yet for a few hours so it could go the same way as Rekord Box went last night.

I can see that Traktor are saying that their latest update makes it compatible with Monterey and the M1 laptops but it just isn't working for me. I have used Traktor for a long time and know it can take a while to get it to work with new hardware, so I am happy to persevere. If someone can make suggestions on how I can fix this that would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Adam
