hello everybody, i am a dj wannabe, all my music is in mp3, and i own a macbook pro laptop , and just bought traktor 3.
i don't want to control the music with a mouse and watch the computer all the time.
the music i am going to play is mostly electro, funk , house , soul, eclectic mix. And i am not searching to do scratch or all kind of effects, i just want to ply music and make decent fade to play in lounge bars.

do you know what should i buy ? (i need exact products name please, my budget is around $700 )

    thank you very much

first things first. -- the mouse and keyboard are very important elements of computer DJing. The software was designed with a mouse and keyboard and designed for use with a mouse and Key board. YOu would be limiting yourself to not use them to their fullest capacity.

second -- after working with audio on most all platforms and systems for the past 20 years -- I can safely say that the computer screen and the visual feedback of the audio's mechanics is the most important aspect of the computer dj platform. The improvement of a djs abilities and flexability is somewhere around 1000% because of real-time visual feedback. This element improves song organization, mixing, beatmatching, sound system managment, lighting design, sound editing, lots of stuff--

AND #1 for posuers especially professional ones that make a lot of money=(staring at the screen) IT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING IMPORTANT! Something that is obviously not understandable by the people observing around you.

If weare going to be playing other peoples music and and entertaining people by doing so and taking credit for the entertainment ..... this is rule number 1 .. the more un-accessible we are .. the better. Being hard at work at the computer or mixing desk relieves one of much hassel and responsability of explaining what we are doing.

    Ok gear--

sealed headphones and amplifier-- 160$ -- you need headphones that will keep outside sound out and inside sound in. Do not use vented headphones. Use standard SONY monitoring headphones mdr-7506. If your headphones out put device is weak and you are going deaf like the rest of us--you will need a headphone amplifier its about 50$ I included that in the price.

Controller and Sound Card. $500-- There are currently 9 billion new dj controllers and sound cards being released and under developement in the digital dj world. Don't buy any of them until you have firmly decided that it is the one for you. parting from your money is kind of like getting married. Read reviews and do your own research before you buy. Go to the DJ superstore and Dangle the money in front of their faces and make them get the controllers out and hook them up to YOUR computer to show you that it will work .

If you are just getting started i would almost suggest not getting a controller until you have suffered with the mouse and keypad for a while. What you learn from setting up your software and programming a few hot keys might enlighten you to the origins of WHAT YOU REALLY NEED.

Don't shop price. Cheap gear sounds like dog-****. Don't spend the money unless you really need to.

It is even possible to use just the stock soundcard of the macintosh to start djing right away. With only headphones and an external stereo amplifier. I have outlined that set-up in this thread.

I know that stereo sound is important, the split mono configuration is a quick fix to get your dj program functioning with a discrete listening channel right away.

If you want my suggesstion a new DJ controller and sound card . I like the RELOOP digital disc jockey controller. It looks good. And Im anxious for someone else to buy it first and report back if it sucks or not.

You should check out the vestax vci-100 or the Denon hc4500 controller. The good thing about the vestax vci-100 is that it has a mixer bult in and is the size of a laptop. They just came out with one with a built in sound card.
