Applications for the MacTel Universal Binaries beta test for Traktor 3.0 are no longer being accepted. The list closed on October 03 2006 and Beta testers received Email and were confirmed from that list. AN application received now will not be processed.

    Hi there,
I haven't seen this answered anywhere previously (been lurking here for quite some time), and it's probably fine but I'd just like to be sure - I'm just about to purchase Traktor 3, and assume that the UB version will be a free upgrade. Would I be correct in this assumption?

Seems like a lot of companies are charging for their UB upgrades! :(

    Thanks, Dan.

To be honest I don't know 100% for certain but here is what I imagine will be the case.

It would be available for purchase as a new retail product, will come with its own Serial number.

It would be available for purchase new as a downloadable and will have it own serial number

It would be available as an upgrade to existing registered users It will require you to use your existing legit serial number and will require you to de-register a current registration if you already have 2 authorizations in place for the current serial number. It is possible that this could be a pay-for or free upgrade but I don't know at this point. In any case in the upgrade scenario, you will not be able to keep two current Win-XP or MacPPC registrations and just add an Intel registration without de-authorizing one registration first. To accomplish this you woud need to purchase a new copy of Traktor.

    Hi,

As it is your birthday (Native instruments) I am really tempted to get the €99 version of Traktor 3. Only problem being is I don't want to have to pay a substantial ammount for the Universal Binary upgrade. Can I pre-order the universal binary version for the same tiem or do you have a price for the upgrade yet??

    Hi Florian,

The wording on this page is a bit vague. As I understand it:

    - There may or may not be a UB upgrade for 3.x
    - If Yes, then it'll be €29 to upgrade
    - If No, it'll be a whole new version of Traktor (4?)

I assume Traktor 4 (or whatever) would cost substantially more than €29 to upgrade from 3.x, and there's nothing there to say you *CAN* upgrade from 3.x - in fact, you might need to just purchase the full program again.

Can you confirm any of this, or clarify it a bit better? Sorry if I'm being picky, but I don't want to fork out for Traktor 3.x now (and suffer with performance issues, probably not even using it in it's current state) in the hope of picking up a cheap UB upgrade when it's released, only to find I have to re-purchase the entire product again.

    Thanks, Dan

OK let me lay it out here.

As of right now Traktor 3.1.1 is neither supported nor recommended for MacTel systems. If you use PowerPC MAC systems you are fine.

Traktor 3.0 on Mactels does not work well at all, we do know that hence the above disclaimer.

Going forward if there is a seperate Universal Binaries release for Traktor the cost to UPGRADE your EXISTING T3 licence will be approx 29 euros.

Important note! You will NOT be able to buy a NEW T3 Universal binaries license under this plan for 29 euros. If you do not already have a license for T3 and need to get one, the NI-Versary deal is the one to get all over.

If the universal binaries were to come out as part of some future new version your asumption would theoretically be correct in that it would likely cost more, as you would expect it to. With respect to upgrades, NI has in the past offerred and more than likely continue to do so, offer upgrade pricing to allow users to migrate to the new version for less money than a full license. However there is no public word on future releases, pricing (beyond the U.B. announcement) or timetables, so this is pure speculation.

The likely scenario is as is already known. A U.B. update is due in the fall and testing is likely to begin later in the summer (as has been noted publicly in several posts) currently no dates are set. MacTel Beta testers who are registered Traktor 3.0 users will be eligible to participate. If you are not a registered T3 user, you are ineligible, so if you want to be a part of the Beta , do not yet OWN T3 and are NOT REGISTERED, now is the time to work on that, to be ready for the beta when it comes.

To my mind the most expeditious way to go for those seeking to buy-in for the first time is to take advantage of the hella-good NI-Versary pricing today. Having a legit license for less than normal money now will save you money and effort over the longer term as you get the free updates and lower upgrade costs for new releases.

All this though has only a little to do with the actual beta testing which this is what this thread is for. Please hold this thread for such discussions and taking pricing, opportunities upgrade paths etc to an active 3.1 thread.

    OK
But I did not recieve a email confirming that I was on the list.

Also you must have some kind of hint to when beta testing is due to start. Not much time till Q3 ends and relase date comes.

Any news is good news :)
