Somebody has to ask it I guess...

Does NI have plans to release Traktor DJ (or a related App for Track-preparing) for the Android Universe?

    some thoughts on that:
I read that the Android Sound-drivers massively improved since the last two major versions and the "google" nexus devices are performance monsters too.
You can choose which devices can download you App on the Android Market -> reduce maintaining of the App!
I overstand that most companies prefer iOS because they have to worry less about compatibility and that Apples AppStore has more active buyers.

Never the less, I would like to hear a statement from NI about Android-Development.
Also what they think about the state of the audio-drivers in JellyBean?

    I doubt that.

There are involved some tasks that need a "low latency" audio core. Android can't handle this even with the improved update. If you want to use pro/dj audio apps on your mobile devices buy an iOS device.

I'm not sure the latency problem will be solved anytime soon on Android devices.

My thoughts exactly. There used to be a HUGE issue with the audio engine in Android. But it's been addressed--finally. Android hardware has gotten a lot more competitive, too (e.g., compare Nexus 7 and iPad mini).

I totally understand why NI started developing for iOS. (The fact that Apple has a lot of fans in the audio/music community may be another factor.) But now that Android is looking more promising and it's market share is rising, I really hope NI is strongly considering porting TDJ.

It's not only a problem of latency now. There needs to be OS level support for multiple outs and audio devices. Android is not on par and it has no relevance in the tablet world, besides the classic fragmentation problems.

please don't spread misinformation. android supports multi-channel audio as well as external audio devices.

that's simply not true. according to IDC, apple had 53.8% of the tablet market in 2012, android had 42.7%. so android is hardly irrelevant. also, android's market share is growing, while apple's is falling. in a matter of a few quarters, android will outsell apple in the tablet space.

(not to mention that in the smartphone market, android is outselling ios almost 3:1 already.)

So what explains the lack of any decent audio apps on Android then?

remember the long-time deficiencies in android's audio engine. crucial changes came in 4.1 and 4.2. and 4.2 is only 3 months old. also, truth be told, latencies in 4.2 are a LOT better, but they're still not 100% on par with ios. but it's my understanding further patches will find their way into the android trunk soon, so the performance gap might be fully closed pretty soon. (same goes for multi-channel audio support. it came with 4.1. that's still a fairly fresh version.)

second, notice that apple has a traditional stronghold among creative types. many musicians and audio folk prefer apple. given the dominating market share apple used to have in the tablet space, it seemed natural to choose ios as your initial development platform.

only as android market share is rising and audio latency has been greatly reduced, it becomes more attractive to develop pro audio apps for android. but, imo, audio apps on android are about to take off.

Yup. I'd say that the majority of Android devices out there currently aren't running an OS version capable of low-latency audio, and probably the majority of hardware SKUs out there as of today never will.

    http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3434

This'll change as people change up OS versions and devices, I guess, but we will see. There won't be an app vacuum if there is money to be made!

note it looks as if the most recent comments on that issue are by randoms, not by people that actually contribute code to android. most of the items on that list have been addressed with 4.1 and 4.2.

Don't spread misinformation, that famous IDC report has been proven to be completely bogus:

    http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2012/08...rter-court-documents-show-samsung-sold-37000/

Not only that, the gap is now even greater after the holidays and the iPad mini. The fact is that the iPad has been the only game in town for a while. Now it has some light competition but it's still beating record sales quarter after quarter, beating PC sales by around 6:1. It's around 85% of tablet web traffic, you can check these numbers just about anywhere. Android tablets don't enjoy the advantage of carriers pushing them, so it's understandable.

iOS has good latency, Android is slow and stupid, no one will ever develop music apps on it like they do for the iProducts

Come on, I didnt start this thread to be another platform war...
if you have no smart thing to say. say nothing. pretty please...

The biggest problem for "Android" is the huge variety on devices, but as i said in the first post. Why not pick the best devices and just optimize for theme (at first).

Some official data from the "NI-Android-Reseach" would be nice. I bet they did something like that.
NI stated they welcome "hacking" ... (somewhere in the 2.5 remix-decks-debate)
What is more hacking-friendly than an open source project like Android is?

i won´t buy any apple product in future, iphone 3gs was the last have been used, i think that is not good ni create monopoly with apple.
yes writing soft for 10 devices is more simple, but i like the way to choose what is best for me. and for me android wins, think about it.
this is very nice comparation of ios and android: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5A4k1bDV0s&feature=youtu.be (nice on this video comparing old version of andr. with new version ios)

why are ios so limited? can´t connect mouse, keyboard, usb, game controller etc...[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lSut8E4BYQ"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lSut8E4BYQ[/ame]
for me is apple device with very nice design but functionality is somewhere....

if will be made products for one brand in future, this will be step backward. offer more... (linux, win, ios, android,...)

I'm not sure of the reason for posting that video?

I think everyone knows the limitations of the iPad and that you cannot connect such things like HDDs.

I have a macbook pro. I leave it open for a month ,just closing the lid when not in use and charge when need. I'm doing Youtube - Forums - General web surf and downloads. WIFI enabled all the time! I'm doing this the whole 1,5 year I have the laptop without the need of defrag or format or even have it "optimized for djing". When I open the lid I just fire Traktor & I'm good to go ,even with other applications in the background. Same goes for iOS devices. I know that Apple is overprized and has limitations over other competitor's OS & Hardware but you are sure that it will not let you down as easy as the others.
It's just my opinion based on my personal experience with Apple products and the way they work.
