Traktor DJ - iPad - iOS7 - Audio 2 MKII - thanks for nothing, NI

I don't expect anyone at NI to even respond, but I'm writing just so there's a record of my complaint for others.

I bought a brand new Audio 2 MKII with the intention of using it with my iPad and A&H Xone:42 mixer. Bizarrely, NI elected not to include a cable that is compatible with the current line of iPad devices. This is just mind-blowing to me. They include a cable that works with the older, redundant product line. To use it with the current range of Apple products, for which it is intended, you must purchase additional equipment. WTF?! And worse, nothing but the official Apple adapter will even work, and where I live that COST AN ADDITIONAL $48!! That is a serious additional expense!

What's more, it doesn't appear to support the current iOS version, in spite of the fact that iOS7 was released FIVE MONTHS AGO!!! The advice on the box is not to install iOS7. Nice one, NI. I'll just get in my time machine and go back to 2013 and let myself know. I updated months ago, so did everyone else. Besides, why should I deny myself the use of iOS 7 just because your engineers can't sort this out?!

My Audio 2 is useless with the iPad. Repetitive static clicks through both sets of channels make it unusable. Until you fix this issue it is a useless lump of shiny plastic, and I regret my purchase. This has been a very disappointing experience for me.

Let this be a warning to others.

I do think the issue with supplying an out of date cable is pretty bad at this point. Seen as the lightning connector has been the standard for well over a year now.

As for the issues with the software, I think Apple is partly responsible, as iOS7 still has big issues with lag, crashes etc. Hopefully these will be fixed with the 7.1 update. And I'm guessing NI is waiting for Apple to update to 7.1 so they can release a new update to Trakor DJ.
Cross fingers and wait a couple of weeks.

iOS 7.1 will fix the issue. If you can get your hands on a beta 5 release, you'll see that it's working great!

I just loaded iOS 7.1 (released today) and my Traktor Audio 2 MK2 sounds great! Now if they can do something about that cable...

Hi, I just loaded too and it seems working better when using external mixer. BUT the output level is low (very low) and the wheel adjust both from the main and headphone channel are with no effect. Same for you ?

Actually both channels seems to be loud enough in my headphones... In both the internal and external mixing modes... In the internal mixing mode the right encoder is the headphone volume and the left is the Cue / Mix fader... Both seem to work and are pretty loud.

Are you using a USB to Lightning / 30-pin cable? I'm not sure it will work with a CCK.

But with the external mixing mode could you adjust the level with the hard wheels on Audio 2 sides?

Actually, the encoders have no effect when in external mixing mode. It is by design. The decks output at full volume through the Audio 2 MK2... The other thing I would check is to make sure the volume levels are adjusted in the actual application GUI... In addition, there is a slight volume boost when using an external power supply.

Yep. Did you try with the external power supply ? Is it really a slight boost ? The output level is very low compare to Traktor pro on my macbook pro with the same card. I need to set up the gain at max level on my external mixer if i want to reach a 0db level and consider that it's a professional mixer not a toy. I just order the power supply, cross finger.

Yes you need a 40$ mac cable to adapt your USB IO to an iPad, yes they don't include the new adapter because the majority of people don't have iPad airs yet as they cost an arm and a leg, yes your audio interface can work with an iPad, was it made specifically for it? No It does however, work just fine, and IOS7 pretty much took a fat dump on every IOS related form of making music until 7.1 released.

So is it safe to buy a S2 mk2 now ? I will be using it with a iPad 4, 30 pin to lighting adaptor on iOS 7.1 ?

I have just written to support forums.
My ipad2 with ios7.1 still runs Traktor very very choppy.
    Makes it unusable.

Was fine on IOS6. Was truly waiting for this update.

Is it me though.. ? Do you now need need to synch the whole library to Traktor first ?
If so, how do you do that.. ?

    Thanks for help...

If you just updated to 7.1 from iOS 6, Traktor DJ may need to re-analyze your collection... This is because Apple changed the way they handled song IDs... Unfortunately, analysis on an iPad 2 does take quite a bit of processing power...

silly question but now do you re-analyse tracks in one hit ?
    I cant work it out!

I can only do them individually at the moment on first load / cue...

    thanks for help.

Does anyone know if we can split the channels of the Audio 2 mk 2 into 2 different channels (A and B) instead of Cue and Master. I know that both outputs are not Hardware identical but It would be extremely useful to only Cue with the Cue Channel of an external mixer.

Traktor Dj/ Audio 2 Mk2 ...ready for the club. Super compact

As the OP I thought it appropriate that I should report back that, as promised, iOS 7.1 has fixed the issue I was experiencing. I'm still not happy about the unfathomable delay or the cost of the cable, and that it wasn't included as standard, but everything is now working and that's what matters.

As a post script, an observation... something I find a little amusing. Since the release of 7.1 I've seen that NI are now heavily promoting the Audio 2 as a new product!!! Clearly they didn't want to sell any more units until the fix was out, lest the disgruntled user base grew too much and the problem received too much visibility. So those of us who did purchase it between it's actual release and now were lost in a sort of weird limbo, the forgotten and ignored early adopters. It's made me rethink NI and I'll be wary in the future, especially when it comes to their hardware.

Go into the preferences, select Audio Setup and then flip the External Mixer setting. You can then assign the outputs of each deck to the outputs of the TA2 MK2.

If you have this setup. Can you please upload a link to a screeshot of the Audio Setup... I can't seem to find any confirmation on this.

    Thank you!
