    Hi Phil,

I bought already the boxed update from the NI online store. Will I be able to download the update too?

That I don't know. You should call sales and ask. Can you please post results back here so other know what to do? \

The following also occurred to me... Traktor will begin shipping that day. It won't arrive in your hands that day If you are planning on spending your hard earned cash. Hold on to it, because there will certainly be a downloadable available and all that is not known will be revealed on that day.

Will it be possible to use 2.6 and 3 side-by-side with the same collection?

I would like to continue using 2.6 until I get up to speed with 3.0, and it would be great if could switch back and forth between the two (*not* simultaneuously, of course) without having to worry about my collection/playlists/crates getting mangled.

    Anyone?

You can do that. But you need to maintain two SEPERATE COLLECTION FOLDERS and STRIPES!!!! I'm no yelling at you I just want to be ensure everyone hears this loud and clear so there is no confusion!

Your strategy is a good on and I recommend EVRYONE does likewise there is a lot of change and learning coming with Traktor 3.0.

    So to recap....
    Step one BEFORE installing anything!!!
Backup your collection folders and playlists. Traktor 3 can share the same music folders as T2.x but it CANNOT share collection folders.

When you install, DO NOT install to the same folders you already have Traktor 2.x installed in.

When you start T3 for the first time don't import immediately instead go into preferences and make sure you point Traktor 3 to the correct locations of the collection etc.

If you don't do this, and you have problems and complain to me about it, Know that I'm gonna send round the Ninja hedgepig squad to beat up your cat!

One thing I'm very worried about T3, it's the type dimensions of the browser section. I like the "condensed" style of the previous versions cause it permitted to read with a good body dimension. The readability of the browser is very important, in the middle of a live session, often with a small laptop screen. From the preview screen images, the T3 browser seems more difficult to read... what's the impressions from the first users and/or beta testers?

The broswer is actually very easy to read. There has been a typeface change to support TrueType fonts and that has improved things quite a bit. The one thing I do find is that lower resolutions on large screens and the font is too big I have a 21 inch flat panel and at 1024X768 the font is excessively large even when using the smallest font Traktor supports, That being said, the sweet spot for traktor is 1280X1024, anything above that is gravy. 1024X768 is supported some shuffling is reuired using 4 decks but its easy and the screen layouts help enormously. Do not expect anything useful at resolutions below 1024X768 its not supported.

If it's anything like 2.6, then you are probably able to download the 3.0 demo and get used to it while you wait for the box to arrive.
Once you have your serial# from the box you shouldn't even need to re-install.

But that's just an (educated) guess.

    PhilL,
from what i can see on the website, the beatmarking controls are no longer visible on the main operating screen...
will there be a special section that you call up just for beatmarking!?
since all my music is ripped from vinyl and broken beat (!) i never had it very easy setting my beat markers so i am really looking forward to any improvements that could help!

Gridding and Beat marking has undergone some important changes mostly good but a couple of things I would like to see tweaked to simplify workflow.

Like you, I Play Broken Beats although not exclusively, yeah they are often hard to grid properly. In T3 here is what helps

Beat Markers & Deck Modes - Snapping. T3 has 3 modes the decks can run in. Its a global setting but you can easily change modes without affecting playback The modes are SNAP CD and VINYL.
Snap has Traktor guess where the downbeat and by default places a grid line on it. Whenever you click in the waveform with snapping enabled, you instantly jump to the nearest grid line in the waveform. Its pretty accurate where ever there is a beat. Tracks without a beat will need Vinyl mode to set the grid.
Click and Hold the mouse down, will have you jump to the grid line and play while left button is pressed. Let go and the cue jumps back to the grid line it start from, kind of like rocking a record over the start beat. If it sounds right, you can add a beat marker or jump to a different gridline. The actual Beat Markers are set using the Cue Edit details module and are adjusted using the BPM module.
You can set markers using Hotkeys and Midi control, but the 2.6 toggle method beat markers with hotkeys is gone. What we do have is the ability to adjust a beat marker forward or backward in the track to get precise alignment, where in 2.6 you had to remove it, reposition and add it again.
Once your beatmarker is accurately placed, you can then start to jump out in the track and adjust the grid as you go to get it really precisely aligned.
Another very useful feature is the addition of the audible beat grid. When you turn this on for a track and you have a track with mixer cueing turned on, you can hear a tick sound in the headphones that will allow you to listen to the grid in comparison to the track so you can see and hear the grid while pre-cueing a track.
If you have a really stubborn track then you can switch to vinyl mode which allows you drag a waveform just like in 2.6 and take advantage of the grid setting function in T3, which should overall make life easier but it will take some getting used to and practice I'm sure.

    Hope this helps,
Look for a compendiium of sorts with this information in it here on the forums on release day, When you see it, know that Traktor three is available.

Phil--have you recorded any mixes with T3? I'm hoping it's much improved, as this is one of the larger reasons I went back to 2.5.3.

Of course, I could just sit on my hands and stop bugging you and wait nine days....

The 2.6 native mix recorder mostly worked pretty well for me. But there were enough problems with it, that, like you I preferred the 2.5.3 recorder. I think though I'll continue to use the 2.6 recorder in the immediate future.
