I regret my choice, official s8 flightcase seems better even if it hasnt any laptop stand...

Well, do we need a Laptop stand? I'd use a Crane Stand or something similar...

I found a flight case at a reasonable price. The case is a Gator G-Tour with an arm to mount the laptop originally meant for the Pioneer DDJ-T1. Knowing that controller is wider than the S8, I thought width-wise it could work, and once I looked at the spec on the case and compared them to S8 spec, I thought maybe it would work, worst case scenario I cant use use the arm within the case. So I took a chance and ordered. This is a work in progress eventually I want to mount my wireless mics, Alto stealth wireless & DBX Go-Rack inside somehow.

As of (11/25/2015) its on sale for $99, personally I felt I couldn't find a better price

There's two cons, I have to say about this case is the weight, about 42lbs on my luggage scale with no S8 inside and about 57lbs with the S8 inside (nothing else installed yet). And the top can't be stacked under, because of the wheels and the corners aren't indented.

A few more pics of the inside with the sound processors installed and cables being routed. And the final things I need to get done is securing the power squid and routing its cord to the power strip.

That looks like beautiful mayhem. I'm impressed. I am using the standard NI flight case, and it's fine. I do sometimes wish it had a laptop rack like the S4 case, but I manage. Where did you get your knobs? Very cool.

Hi, I do not own the UDG Hardcase, but I do have my S8 housed in the Official NI flight case which of course does allow you to use the controller whilst in the case. The UDG case on the other hand looks to be designed purely for transporting the S8 due to the way it hinges in half, but leaves the lid attached. This in itself would create a massive footprint once you open the lid (where would you even find the space needed to lay the lid down behind the case?) Added to that, you can see from the photos that all the ports/controls along the front of the S8 are obscured and would also create the same issue along the rear panel where all your inputs/outputs power socket are situated. From photos I have seen in the past, Carl Cox has used the UDG Hardcase to transport his S8, but you will always see him performing with the controller out of the case. Hope that helps.:)

I haven't seen any soft case that allows you to use the S8 left inside. I would prefer a softcase/packpack for easy transport for when I just need the S8 and laptop, but I haven't found one that was cost effective.

The knobs I got from Radio Shack, but you can use almost any knobs with a D-Shaft.

Hahaha, the official flight case weighs in at 150% the weight of the controller itself. 7.5Kg Case + 5Kg Controller = 12.5Kg not including leads / laptop in case. This is gonna be a heavy suitcase to carry any major distance, especially with other gear too..

True, any flight style case will be heavy, but I only this set up for mobile gigs.
