So it seems the S8 is 'a thing' then eh?

Same here. Never been at ease with going full 'synctard', the lack of hands-on manipulation of the track leaves me cold.

The touch strips will give you the same capability, with much less dedicated real estate and making it much less breakable (no moving parts)

NOW we need something like that in the modular setups in the form factor of an x1

I think that this is good progress for NI, because, honestly I think the Traktor S4 MK2 was a dissapoinment.... it did not have anything new...

This looks great, and I suppose if you want jog wheels you could use scratch with a deck or CDJ.

I'm wondering if they will refresh/replace the S2/S4 lineup too.

A builtin SSD for trackstorage and running Traktor engine, so laptop could be left home.
    Now THAT would be revolutionary.

I'm pretty sure that this "adds to" the lineup, similar to how Maschine Studio added to Maschine Mk2 and Maschine Mikro Mk2.

As much as I'm keen to get one I don't know if it'll change my current setup of DJM850, CDJ2000NXS, 2 x X1mk2 and an F1. I seem to have everything I currently need within easy reach ... although setup time might improve with the new beast!

    Looks really good.
Waiting to see the new software too.

RekordBox from Pioneer is ok; Serato is quite good... but Traktor Pro is a class on his own.

Next step and the real future of NI: release an Operative System and a Traktor Laptop too.

I really can't see it working that well with the touch strip, especially trying to find a specific beat. I can imagine it working by touching the strip and find tuning it with the browse knob. Seems far too much of a farce though than giving it a quick spin. I've used the same touch tech strips before and it never worked not being very accurate. I would like to be proven wrong though. I'm still using the s4 mk1 and would like to have seen Ni work on fixes for the longing issues with that. From the tech that's in groove production studio I.e screens can't see this being any less than £800 would like to be proven wrong again though.

Please tell me I can ditch the laptop and stick a USB key into this bad boy kontrolla!... Those LCD screens better be useful and not just cosmetics!!!

It makes sense for a software company to do that.. Think about it... You manage your stuff on a laptop with the software you purchased (just like rekordbox) and then they have a hardware unit to catch a different demographics and make more money... it's a natural progression, they started in software, yet they've offered more and more hardware of the last decade in all of NI's things... Maschine, is revolutionary and nothing stops them from still evolving their software with future timecode options... It would be horrible for them to confine themselves to only one thing

Wonder about that center TEMPO knob, does it mean it all runs on a master tempo now? however I still see sync buttons on the decks.
One of the things that I loved about the X1 mk2 is that you can dj without sync. by simply holding sync and moving the loop knob. The pitch bend on the touch strip is also great. X1 is the reason why I stick to Traktor. To me that has been their real revolution to djing both mk1 and mk2. I would love this features to stay on standard mapping for a controller like this.
These features are useful if you never fix a grid on your tracks or if tempo readings are wrong or if you simply connected your turntables and are mixing some vinyls (not timecode).
Also would be lovely if one day NI would think in double soundcard on their devices for b2bs or easy switching between djs. this machine looks interesting but as usual is thought for one dj only and it takes too much space.

You're not listening to what I'm telling you...
Aren't they creating hardware already? Everything they have is a mix of both and not just one
And does that screen look like it's enough to manage your tracks? They wouldn't ditch the software completely
Common man... Don't be another sore argumenter full of negativity in a forum about innovation.

My suggestions has a good intention! WHY? Because that small little screen on the S8 does not threaten the future of the full blown Traktor Software.

Let's not get tied up in details

The other things also bud, if you check the teaser video he says:

“You can put the computer aside and start working directly on the decks.” @ 52 seconds

So, perhaps this is a free-standing, laptop-free DJ controller with native Traktor software embeded..
