No Traktor DJ support seems odd - given that GCGerald #future video.

ok, i'll say it otherwise. the cost of the screens may be overkill (not that they're not fancy!) and that forced to take hard decisions like leaving out a lot of other stuff -maybe useful, maybe not- to keep the unit at a competitive price. the digital in-out may not be a must, ok, but in nowadays setups i think additional USBs that help reduce the use of hubs are interesting.

somehow, i thought that the roadmap for traktor would be that the current plattorms ('pro' and 'dj') would slowly get closer to each other until it'd be almost the same. integrating remix decks, and/or four decks, into traktor dj may be a big step to be done in a rush, and that may be the biggest reason behind the S8 not being ios friendly... yet.

at least, freeze appears to be coming to the pro version, that may mean 2.6.9 is on the way. or maybe 2.6.8.5..?

will there be an official TRAKTOR KONTROL S8 FLIGHT CASE available, when the beast gets released?

 

If you can't wait for an NI one, there are plenty of companies that build good quality cases. You don't say where you are located, but TIP (Total Impact) are usually one of the first in Europe to release one. If you are in the UK Swan Flight, or Flightcase Warehouse can make one to size, and I'm sure they would be keen to as they usually release cases for the popular controllers, they may even ship overseas. I personally wouldn't buy an NI case as I don't like my cases with branding on them as they are too appealing to thieves. On a final note, I do see people are sometimes worried about the cost of custom flight cases, but in the past I haven't found them that expensive compared to pre-built. I for one like a case to be an extra inch higher, then I can fit all the cabling/extensions etc for a product in it's own case.

 

Ok, so at the end of that you tube review it flashed up Traktor Pro 2.7.0 ... So yes, we're getting an incremental update!

 

pretty sure it is to make this controller work because it will not work on earlier versions ... think the upgrade for masses will be 3.0

 

So I had the pleasure of seeing one in the flesh today prior to the Australian Launch Party next Monday ...

Traktor 2.7.0 and an updated Controller Editor are needed.

It's a bit thinner and smaller than I thought it was going to be which is not a bad thing. Screens are really quite good and make the Remix Deck content very easy to navigate and control. In Deck mode you get wave forms similar to that of the iPad App Traktor DJ. Faders all round are much better than those on the S4, and crossfader is better than the Z2. The little Remix Deck faders are quite a bit better than those on the F1 ... hint hint to NI for an F1mk2 ... or maybe an XF1 that's the control/screen only?

Anyhow, it's a very interesting piece of kit, still not sure if it'll work into my way of playing but going to consider it.

 

It comes with 2.7 as Frankle stated above.

Traktor Pro 3 is not on the way with the S8.

What about Traktor DJ support? As I noted above, seems weird it's not mentioned given that new-ish "future of DJ-ing" w/ Guy Called Gerald, where it was featured heavily.

 

My dream system would be the Pioneer DDJ-SZ with USB stick playback and waveform screens. Otherwise, I am quite happy with the Stanton SCS 4DJ. I much prefer a jog wheel and pitch control to a screen. If you know your music, then you do not need the waveform screens to cheat.

 

I get why people are disappointed about the jogs, but for me personally I've owed a number of midi only controllers without platters (Ohm64, 4midiloop, mm-1) after I moved from vinyl.

None of them ever seemed quite 'right' for me despite making numerous mappings and the cost of going back to vinyl, for an audio10 and all the extra cabling assossiated, and the difficulty of playing out on such a system, I was in two minds whether I wanted to go back.

The fact i can connect my turntables which haven't been used in years without having to buy the external soundcard and have all these digital features is a brilliant excuse to put my money down.

I loved when Ean Golding used a boss compressor to get the most out of his sample decks in a recent video. I'm curious, with the new output/input options available and different effect routing (i.e. insert/send), could i possibly run a fx send bus on only my remix decks without needing another sound card?

 

Can you route maschine to one of the "decks".

I mean: MAschine and Traktor s8 running on macbook air.
Then MAshine syncing with traktor and use 1 channel of S8 for Machine?

 

Is too big for me, can't fit in a hand luggage, I'll keep my S4 MK2 with all its problems.

 

I'm sure if it is popular you'll see some smaller models coming out to replace the S2/S4s.
