Hey guys I've got Traktor LE and Mixtrack all hooked up and working perfectly through a Creative Audigy soundcard and into 2 channels on a mixer.. no problem although I had to do the update first to get the kit working correctly.

The problem I have is that when I press any of the buttons I get a different keyboard note playing through the output (sort of generic midi controller sound), I've checked the Controller Manager settigns and it says generic keyboard/na and if I change it to the Numark option and close the box it's gone back to the generic setting! - I don't know if these problems are related but if anyone get help get rid of that piano sound I'd be grateful!

    Thanks in advance.

Muted midi on the soundcard. All sorted.

disable the GENERAL MIDI or GS Synth in your OS!

Disabling the GS synth is not possible under Windows 7 unfortunately.

A couple quick and dirty workarounds are to disable all outs of your audio interface in the audio control panel and using the stock soundcard as the default playback device, or to change the midi output port to the GS synth by editing the registry.

The first is a hassle if you want sounds from your web browser or itunes to be mapped through your audio interface (and also, the GS synth still plays through the stock card that way, and so you'll have to mute it when switching between Traktor and other windows applications), while the second can mess up your system if done incorrectly.

Here's what MS themselves had to say:

"The ability to choose a different hardware or software MIDI synthesizer other than the default Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth has been removed from the user interface for audio configuration in Windows Vista/Windows 7. A different output MIDI synth or output device port can be selected only by editing the registry"

This to me is a senseless omission.
