    Hi all,

Welcome to the eleventh issue of "Traktor on the Record"! This Q&A session gives you the opportunity to get direct answers from product designer Friedemann and product manager Tobias on all things Traktor.

Please read this post first for info on how this works:
    http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75597

    The most important stuff briefly:

    - this thread works like a mailbag, all posts go in an internal queue and won't be visible at first
    - only NI product owners can post questions in this session
    - please keep it focussed and suggest only one topic per session

This thread will be closed for submissions on Wednesday, and answers will be posted on Friday.

We are looking forward to your topics!

    Regards, Thomas

Hotkey settings are usually active directly after you import them, so there seems to be an issue with your setup. Please send your hotkey file to our tech support so they can look into it.

It is already possible to assign the commands of the Move panel, by using "Cue/Loops -> Cue/Loop Move Mode", which switches between the different modes like Beatjump/loop/in/out, and "Cue/Loops -> Cue/Loop Move" which triggers the movement of the selected mode. We will publish a tutorial about this soon that might also answer your question from a more general perspective.

We will support HID for the CDJ-400 first, but we are also in touch with Denon about the HID abilities of their devices. We plan to offer HID support for other units as soon as possible, but I can't give you specific estimates right now.

The booth output was a feature of Traktor 3 that was only very rarely used, because connecting a booth speaker system directly to the computer sound card without a mixer or any other kind of volume control in between is quite uncommon.

The recording output of Traktor is a fixed-level output by design, this is not a bug. You want its level to be at a constant 0 dBu when recording your set externally, so it is not influenced by the master output knob.

I don't know what your exact setup looks like, but the solution for you would probably be to get one of these affordable passive volume controllers and put it between the recording output of your sound card and your monitor speakers.

We know that the MIDI assignment has potential for improvement. In one of our next updates, we will implement a more convenient way of assigning MIDI controllers.

What you refer to as „popping“ is something that can be caused by very short buffer crossfades within the current timestretching implementation. It's typically only audible with signals that don't have many harmonics. The best example would be a pure sine wave, or a breakdown in a track where only a subbass line is playing.

We have a new timestretching implementation coming up in 1.2 that will fix this issue.

It's important to understand that the iTunes node reads all its information straight from the library XML file written that iTunes generates. This is the reason why you won't see Traktor-specific tags in iTunes playlists.

The popular explanation is correct. To offer a Linux version of Traktor, we would need to set up a complete „third branch“ for Linux development, Linux QA and Linux tech support next to our Windows and Mac resources. This would be a huge investment that would never be even remotely compensated through the sales of a Linux version, because the number of „Linux-only“ DJs is very low. And to reduce our resources for Mac and Windows to shift them to Linux is also not really an option.

There are quite a number of Linux friends working at NI and we were happy to support the platform by helping with the development of the ALSA drivers for all the NI audio interfaces, but any commitment beyond that is just not a practical priority for us.

We are aware of the demand for a new Slave function, and it's on our list for the next feature update that comes after version 1.2 (which will probably be called 1.3).
