Traktor Pro 2 seems to have damaged my Traktor Pro 1 installation

    Hi there.

My Traktor Pro 2 install seems to be ok, but I also intend keeping Traktor Pro 1 installed for "Mission critical" gigs (until i'm 100% sure of TP2's stability etc).

I've just launched Traktor Pro 1, & it's crashed on opening. It got as far as loading the collection files then importing my music folders (I have it set up in preferences to always re-import on start up, just in case i've added new music), & then it just disappeared, ...leaving just the error message that sends a crash report to apple.

I've tried launching several times, i've repaired disk permissions, i've hit the "cancel" button as soon as it starts importing my music files (in case there's a corrupt mp3 in there somewhere), but each time it does exactly the same.

My TP1 installation has always been rock solid, but somehow the addition of TP2 has screwed something up, & i'm left without a working installation of Traktor that i'd trust in a gig situation!

Anybody got any ideas? I'm on a 13" MacBook Pro (2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo)

I cannot see anyway that T2 has interfered with T1 they are wholly separate apps.
If T1 started and loaded the collection it could be an issue with the 'Traktor Settings.tsi'

Close Traktor then try backing up the 'Traktor Settings.tsi' somewhere safe then delete the tsi and restart Traktor. This will force Traktor to create a new settings file.

If it works you will have to import your controller tsi but at least Traktor will start.

If it does not work we can look at other things.

It deactivated my TP and it's not in service centre to reactivate it

Same her, after installing TP2 version TP 1.2.7 is not present in the Service centre anymore. Starting the TP 1.2.7 application provides the splash screen for Demo, Buy or Activate.

Well, I choose activate, but then again the Service centre is empty ?

    Same here,
I also intend keeping Traktor Pro 1 installed for "Mission critical" gigs (until i'm 100% sure of TP2's stability etc).

since installing the traktor pro 2 demo, and letting it analyze the files in my itunes folder, it screwed up something.
My traktor 1.2.7, which was rock solid, crashes shortly after opening while loading and checking consistency.

Luckily i had made a backup from my itunes folder.
Deleting my iTunes folder that got analyzed by TP2 and copying back the untouched one solved the problem.

I tried it on two of my Macs. Same result.
TP2 makes backward compatibility impossible by changing / screwing up something in the iTunes folder. I have no idea what. Probably the audio files itself.

I've moved both "Traktor settings.tsi" & "collection.nml" & restarted T1. So when I start T1, this looks like a new fresh install (nothing in the music library, & puts you straight in to the set up wizard).

I'm at work, so i've gone thru the wizard & set it up for internal soundcard & keyboard.

If I navigate via the tree in the left hand pane to my music files & select a folder containing mp3's, the app then crashes .....before I even right click on the folder & select "add to collection".

    Something is definitely broken!

Seems like your audio files became 'infected' too. Just like mine.
When installing TP2 demo and having a first look, i had no problem opening TP1 at the same time to compare.
The problem started, like i wrote, when letting TP2 start analyzing my audio files by ticking 'import-folders at startup' & 'analyze new tracks on collection load/import' in preferences / file management.
Replace your corrupted itunes folder with a backup of it and TP1 should work again.

i keep my hands of TP2 until NI discovers what is going on and fixes it.

I didnt say move the collection. That will remove all the tracks.
    Please reinstate the collection.
You will have back up collections in the Backup folder BUT you did make a backup of the Collection.nml before doing anything, yes..?

Removing the settings tsi means you have to set Traktor layouts again.
You can get your Serial numbers from the support website and reactivate Traktor 1.

There is no reason why people can not have T1 and T1 activated on the same machine.

It happened to me too. I wanted use TSP1.2.7 because it is impossible to grid hip hop with T2 with the tick because it is messed up. I had a gig to do that needed that genre. so, I figured I'd save myself the headache and just use the old version. Got the spinning beachball when it went to load the collection and I had to force quit. I copied an older Traktor folder from before I upgraded that was on my Time Machine backup disc and TSP 1.2.7 started right up.

Did you file this with Support?
Ive had no problems with older installations of Traktor and TSP2 on 2 Macs but there seems to be an issue here.

I am having a similar problem.

I installed TPro 2 and did not have my songs locked so it threw off all my beatgrids and cue points. I was not able to run TPro 1.2.7 while TPro 2 was installed, so I uninstalled TPro 2 and went back to TPro 1.2.7.

At first it appears that everything was OK, but TPro 1.2.7 started crashing when loading certain songs. What I discovered is that it was crashing when trying to analyze or load any songs that were encoded with iTunes 4.x. If I went into iTunes and re-encoded the song with the most recent version of iTunes it loaded and played fine.

I was able to play those songs before I attempted the TP 2.0 upgrade.

I did a test on another mac:
    - Fresh empty itunes folders
    - imported 10 test tracks
    - installed en started traktor 1.2.7, let ik analyze the 10 songs.
    - installed en started traktor 2, let ik analyze the 10 songs.
Switching from 2.0 to 1.2.7 and playing songs was no problem.

Then i copied my recent itunes folder with 6000 track to that Mac. Let Analyze 1.2.7 first & then 2.0 analyze that folder.
Same problem: 1.2.7 crashed when loading that folder after 2.0 analyzed it.

So what we need to try and work out is what is different about the 6000 tracks that is not the same as the 10. Are there tracks in there that were encoded with an older version of iTunes, different file type, something? This would really help in trying to nail down the problem and if it turns out to be some kind of bug the more info we can give NI the easier it will be for them to find it so that it can be fixed.

Sure, there are tracks in there encoded with older versions of iTunes. I started ripping my CD collection 10 years ago or so.

So TP2 gives me the job to find out what songs were ripped with older versions of iTunes and then find my original cd's and rip them again?
    No way!
i've been selecting music & editing tags for years. I am not going to do this all over again.

    I will try that tonight.

I'm not holding out much hope because I have Traktor installed on two machines and I have the same problem on both. One running Windows 7 and the other XP. They are both working with the exact same files that I copied from one to the other.

I'll post later after I try.
