Solved Traktor Pro Activation

Yo fellow djs,

I bought a brand new Z2 today and I've run into activation problem. After 3 hours of banging my head against the wall I figured it all out. I'm posting this because I didn't find a solution in support articles and on the forum itself.

Once you add your product via NI website, DON'T the files that show on your screen - it's a pack for Traktor Pro 2. If you did and if you installed it you can safely delete it.

Go get Native Access. Add your key. The app will tell you Traktor Kontrol Z2 HW was successfully registered. Don't download Traktor Pro 2. It wont activate. Don't waste your time. Download Traktor Pro 3. This is the app that is now fully activated. Enjoy!

I wish I knew this earlier. I didn't bother checking my email during installation. There's no prompt to do it. I worked this out because I opened it to email NI support. I found a message thanking me for activating Traktor Pro 3. It made me think and pointed me in the right direction... after I submitted a support ticket... NI said they will respond in 5-6 days... Don't wait, do the right thing and have fun with your Z2!

NI, please update this cluster&*$^. Your packaging is nice, your hardware feels solid but your onboarding process is broken. It will reduce the number of tickets you have to deal with and also make your new customers happy.

Edit: Tested on macOS 10.14.4. It probably works on other platforms too but you have to check yourself.

I don't know what Access Control is? Can you explain, do you mean Service Centre?
The Z2 installation manual seems a bit out of date. I don't know why it mentions Service Centre.

Native Access is the way all installations should be made. Native Access is a great tool as you have discovered.

I was writing my post late at night and I made a mistake. Of course I meant Native Access. Let me update my post to reflect this and fix a couple of things.

Right after registering a NI account and inputting Z2 serial number 2 download links are present - for mac and windows. They point to Traktor Pro 2 installers. Somewhere down the line Service Center is mentioned. Maybe it's part of Traktor Pro 2 installer (its a bundle of a few things, including software for Traktor Scratch A6 and A10), at this point I no longer remember, it was a long night. I deleted all unnecessary files, I cannot backtrack it.

If you open Traktor Pro 2 after you install it, it request activation through Service Center. Obviously it doesn't work for whatever reason. This program is discontinued.

TLDR - correct steps;
1 - unbox your Z2
2 - register with NI
3 - download Native Access
4 - input your serial number
5 - download Traktor Pro 3
6 - enjoy your Z2
