I don't want to sound like I'm defending NI here because, God knows they make plenty of questionable decisions (e.g. basically killing the master/slave implementation in TPro), but I think you guys are kind of missing the forest for the trees, so to speak, here. One of NI's goals with TPro, which I think is a good one BTW, was to streamline Traktor and take out some of the crap that very few people use in order to make a product that is more functional as a whole. Given the fact that 3.4 was basically just Traktor 2 with a whole bunch of stuff bolted on along the way (some of which didn't work all that well), I think that a fresh start was well in order.

I certainly understand that it's no fun to have a feature removed in an upgrade, but you have to think of it from the perspective of all of the users of the product. Realistically, other than yourself, how many people do you think actually use effects on four decks? Better yet, how many people do you think actually use four decks on a routine basis at all, let alone with effects? I'll be the first to say that while I use four decks from time to time and it's nice to have, it's certainly not something that is an absolute necessity (for example, I would trade the old master/slave functionality for decks C &D...probably anyway). Further, I REALLY don't have any need for effects on more than two decks at one time. I understand that your style is probably different than mine, but still.

That's not to mention the fact that I'm sure you could find a way to do this by wiring Traktor's output into another program if this is something that is absolutely necessary for you. That way, you would have your effects AND probably a lot more flexibility as well...

What I'm saying is that wouldn't make any difference if instead of 2 buttons on each deck (on/off for each effect) there would be 2 knobs (send effect). It wouldn't make any difference to most of the users and to the program itself, but would make a BIG difference to some (and I can write a list of names who normally use 4 decks for most of their gigs).
Why should i wire Traktor outputs to another program (that means another computer with another sound card, so 2 computers and 2 sound cards to carry) when would be so easy to just make a small change in Traktor, not even being a change but only a come back of something that was working properly on T3.
Same goes for the master/slave thing, which i really miss in PRO.
Again, most of the people don't need these features, playing with scratch and 2 decks, but why having 4 decks and the new sync thing (WHY NOT THE OLD MASTER/SLAVE?) if 2 of the decks have limited functionality compared to the others?
It should just be called "scratch pro" then, and i would be keeping using T3.

    Peace

My first impressions are not this optimistic.
    I'm using a macbook with Traktor 3 and an denon HC-4500 midi-controller.
I got my copy op TPro at a local store, and after installing activating and updating, i wanted to test TPro out.
But my happy feeling about TPro just changed quickly after the program just shuts itself down. Not 1 time, but every time I'm opening the Program
Second Thing: I wanted to import the Midi-mapping file for my denon. It just gives me a error, and the mapping is not loaded.

No good feelings about Traktor Pro by me. I'd like some of the effects a lot to play around with. But if the program shuts down without any reason, I cannot say that I'm a happy TPro-owner.

So you would rather have no update? You're not a "pro" unless you use software that hasn't been patched... That's a new one. I've heard the you're not a DJ unless you manually beat match. You also mentioned an old standby, the "wedding DJs aren't real DJs". But, I've never heard that "pro" software doesn't have updates. Hmm... I guess I must not be 1337.

In all seriousness, I understand where you're coming from and I agree. NI has a history of releasing products before they're ready for prime time. Unfortunately, TPro is no exception. Complain all you want (I have), it won't change. The only upside is that usually, after enough bitching and whining from the users, NI will *usually* fix things. Not always, but usually.

I also agree that most of the effects are rather gimmicky. I differ in that you seem to think that they're low quality whereas I don't necessarily think they're poorly done, I just think that those particular effects aren't really all that useful in making your mix sound nice, even if they're top-notch implementations.

Oh and BTW, I'm a wedding DJ. I would be willing to bet that I made a WHOLE LOT more money than you did DJing this past year. And, since a "Professional" is basically one who does something in return for money, I'm betting that I'm a lot more "Pro" than you are. For example, I made about $1,000 at my gig this past Saturday. How about you?

    +1

    problems with collection!

i've got a vew problems with my collection! when i change any ID3-Tag in the TP-browser it change the import date to aktual date... thats boring!

also when i clear my collection to import the old T3 collection it also empty the playlists and i need to delet every playlist to import it again! It was so easy in T3 just copy the playlist into the playlist folder...and it also make it easier to back up...

    Pro This Pro That!

The only time I play out with Traktor is at weddings, company parties, family funtions, or at any high paying gigs where people will be making lots of requests. Other than that I use it strictly for engineering and rehearsing my music sets. No more serching for through boxes of cds for songs, everything is at my fingertips. I burn my playlists onto disc and go out and play.

    I'm I a Pro? I dunno

I have messed around with it just for a while and there is lots of stuff that are way better than in T3.

It is much more intuitive and i can use the effects and loops way faster than before.

I'd like to be able to adjust the look of the decks and colors of the waves like in T3.

as install and midi mapping went flawless thursday night/friday morning and as it was rolling along nicely tru friday I decided to give it a shot right away, and it performed flawless friday night and i was analyzing tracks all night tru the gig, I took some notes and added more controllers for saturday and had even more fun

now after a few days and thx to PhilL's rundown of how modifyers work, i got all the controll i want in TPro, got loops, cues(jumping and setting new ones), all transport, efx r crazy and fun, me like digital lofi :D

now im thinkin of ways of how i can expand my current midimapping with the few buttons i have

only thing i was kinda missing was the reloop button, but that wont be a problem as cuejumps solves it

did I say its rocksolid at my comp? :p

Had a bit of a play:

GUI is pretty nice. Will have fun with the FX once I've mapped my Nocturn properly. Approve of the new cueing and looping system. Will hopefully slave decks C and D to A and B (I'm using scratch) to drop in loops and samples etc once I've figured out how.

My cue points haven't transferred over from Traktor Scratch at all so might have to re-import my collection.

The favourites panel is HUUUGE. Far too big. Preferred it how it was before, smaller and at the bottom of the screen.

    AND...

Quite often the Traktor GUI will freeze, I can't click into the Traktor window or on any of the buttons or task switch to traktor. I have to bring up the task manager, kill the process and start Traktor again.

...so I can't currently use Traktor Pro in any 'Pro' context.

Sample rate is 44.1. Can't remember the latency setting at the moment, although wasn't getting any audio artifacts, glitches or droupouts.

The GUI hangs, and mouse, keyboard, hotkeys are unresponsive. Can still scratch the vinyl though!

had a crack at the demo, it is very nice :)
Hugely improved sound, great FX, better functions :D

in many ways its what T3 should have been, hopefully T3 users will get some good fixes soon too

Traktor Pro is awesome, however, like all new releases, not perfect.

there is an issue with the looping of values less than 1 beat, specifically, the 1/8, /16, and /32. every so often, it will exit the loop and resume normal play without me touching anything.

also, when using the mouse, the loop buttons are sometimes inaccessible (it just opens up the advanced window of the deck when i press it)

there was another issue that i cant remember at the moment, but the biggest one i think is the looping issue. can't have traktor decide when to punch out of a loop.

Same problem, i fear to open the program at full screen!

I don't think it is a problem of Audio Setup...

I want to use TPro for my gigs and i hope that NI fix soon these bugs (i wait the release 1.0.2 soon!)...for the moment i use always T3.

the final issue i have is with the gater effect. when no song is playing, and with the effect assigned to any channel, it just gives a gater effect with some noise, its really annoying.
