    Hi there,
I am a a Maschine user and considering purchasing Traktor Pro 2 software for DJing.

The price is £89 which is the same as price as the Traktor Scratch Pro Software and Timecode kit!
Is this some mistake? How can a piece of software (download) cost the same amount as a boxed version which includes vinyl, cd's etc?

I really hope that this is an error on the site as I need to start using Traktor asap but am struggling to see the value in purchasing the Traktor Scratch Pro 2 software download.

    Kind Regards
    Dansco

My guess is that they will merge the two at some point. It's not exactly uncommon for digital downloads to cost the same or even more than boxed versions (that may have extras), just because of the convenience.

Buy the boxed set and if you don't need the vinyl/CDs sell them on eBay :D

    I'm wondering about this.
How does the buyer of TIMECODE KIT should proceed to install the Scratch version?
What version have to upgrade or what need to have in the servicecenter to upgrade it to scratch?

I understand that NI don't give the full program, and its like an upgrade for who have Audio4,6,8,10 or S4.
But what need to have the users in their laptop in order to proceed to install the full pro scratch version after buying the TIMECODE KIT.

It is not an upgrade. You install Traktor and put in the serial that comes with the kit.

    Thanks Makar1,
And how does need to proceed the buyer to let NI know he have one of the mentioned audio interfaces.
    I guess:

    - register the hardware at NI website under a email acount
    - Install traktor
    - Log in in the service center with that email acount
    - Just activate the full scratch with the provided serial number.

Im pointing in the right way?
    thanks

You need the mentioned interfaces to use timecode in Traktor Scratch. There are no other checks or registrations.

The thing is that rarely anybody buys the TP2 software standalone.
NI is getting more and more into the hardware business. That's what they want to sell. So rather compare the Scratch bundle to the purchase of an "X1 + TP2".

I don't see how you can know how many people buy software from NI? What about all the people who buy a controller from another company which includes no software? Basically, NI are pretty much forcing me to buy control vinyl & CD which I don't need as it's the only way to get value.

As a side note, this pricing in my opinion will encourage piracy. It is irresponsible pricing!

I'd love to hear NI's view on this.

I respect you opinion, however I believe you are completely wrong. :D

Piracy was a huge problem when Traktor was mainly a software product that was for sale. Many people were not ready to pay the price that NI was asking for purely a software product. NI could have lowered the price, but that would not have been sustainable - I doubt you can carry on the Traktor business when you charge 39,- for the software..

So NI entered the hardware space and bundled the software with hardware to counter piracy. To me, that was a brilliant move. Today, you can buy an Audio 2 for 89,- and get a 50,- voucher towards the purchase of the software. That's where my hypothesis ("rarely anybody buys the TP2 software standalone") comes from. NI strongly incentivises their users to purchase hardware (and get the software with that).

NI is becoming less and less interested in these people. Again, NI wants to sell their hardware. This was very visible when NI came out with the F1, which could be used to control remix decks. Up until recently, NI did not open this up to 3rd party controllers. The whole controller manager is very outdated - and NI does not put a lot of effort into improving it. Again, because they want you to buy their own hardware.
That's why you don't see a cheap software-only package. NI wants you to think twice about getting that mix track pro or MidiFighter.. They want you to buy an Audio 2, X1, Z1, S2, S4 ,....

Also: The Traktor Scratch Pro Software and Timecode Kit is only intended for current owners of the A4 DJ, A8 DJ, A6, A10, S4.. and any of the few remaining certified mixers. Officially you are not supposed to purchase this kit if you do not own one of the above devices.

So again, if you want to buy the TP2 software only, please feel free to do so and buy the software.

    Chances are you won't.
