Howdy folks, first post. Now I've looked everywhere but apologies if I've missed something.

I'm running traktor pro with an audio 4 dj and I want to move to Traktor Scratch duo (and yes i know it's not recommended as you lose 'pro functionality' etc.).

The upgrade/crossgrade path seems like it shoud be simple but NI seem to not want to make it that way.

To me, all I should need to purchase is the timecode vinyls and the traktor scratch duo software (have all the cables etc) but seems that I'm not able to get them on their own.

    Suggestions?

    Welcome To The Forum.

To use a Traktor Scratch Duo/Pro it must be purchased in a package.
The best route for you is the Traktor Scratch Pro Certified Upgrade (for Audio 4 owners).
    http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=4101&prid=50&redirected=1

You can upgrade to Traktor Scratch Duo but it costs the same price as upgrading to Pro. You will still be able to use your current version of Pro but the timecode DVS ability will be 'unlocked' using a new Registration Number. No need to reinstall which would be much more convenient in my opinion.

It is not possible to buy the timecode and the DVS software separately they must be purchased together in a package.

The upgrade package doesnt actually include the cables.

Once you have upgraded you are free to sell your original Traktor Pro license.

    Hope that helps

ok i actually had a huge long reply written out but i managed to find this thread

    http://www.traktor-dj.de/forum/showthread.php?t=98406

This is just ridiculous that the 'dvs functionality' isn't available separately in 'modular form'. But see it is. It's just NI refuse to price it and offer it.

There's a very simple solution to this. How about NI just CHANGE the type of license I have from 'Traktor Pro' to 'Traktor Scratch Pro'?

I genuinely can't believe that what I thought were such a great company like Native Instruments would pull this sort of nasty greedy trick.

@ Kid Handsome, the DVS part of the package is a very important part that requires paying for.

The DVS plugin is not available to buy separately. If it was it would still cost quite a lot.
NI cannot allow Traktor Pro to be turned into Scratch Pro without an upgrade that has to be paid for.

That would be like a Car company giving out Alloy wheels and sports kits for free to basic car owners.

@ Stylebreakup, the answer is no. You cannoy buy the extra hardware and turn Traktor 3 into Scratch.

Please read the product pages and the FAQs.

    You are kidding right?

I'm gonna correct that analogy for you.

It's like buying a car from a company, deciding you want the extras, but rather than being able to buy the extras, you must buy a whole new car (identical to the one you bought already) with the extras installed on it.

And being told you are free to sell your own car as some sort of consolation.

yes and I'm willing to pay for it. What i'm not willing to pay for is the whole lot of Traktor Pro AGAIN as well as the dvs functionality.

^^ this is what i was referring to.

but maybe your analogy is more correct.

Anyway, i dont make the rules.
They are what they are. Im sure you can see this.

Im just here to lay out what can and cant be done and what upgrade paths are open to you.

I suggest you take this up with Support. A phone call is best.

    Thanks for your help Karlos.

I have no problem paying for the dvs functionality (the sports kit and alloy wheels on the car so to speak).

But buying a whole new car with the extras, and selling the one I already have (which because it's a software license has no wear and tear) is ludicrous in my opinion.

I've dealt with lot of companies regarding license transfers/upgrading/crossgrading over the years in the production world, and this seems very odd indeed. Especially considering it's NI, who have always been fantastic with their customer support etc.

As someone who is a huge fan(boy) of everything NI (I'm on the beta of Maschine 1.5 etc.), it's quite saddening to see this sort of practice..if indeed it is a deliberate money making exercise as opposed to a simple omission or oversight of sorts.

Anyways thanks for your help Karlos.
