Testing Win 7 RC (latest build/updates) on HP Pavilion DV5-1199

Win 7 runs well, TP seems to as well - but...

    - my Terratec Phase 26 USB soundcard refuses to work at all in ASIO mode in TP. The ASIO driver shows up in the audio config but I can't get a peep out of it. The lappi's internal soundcard works but sounds terrible (snap, crackle & pop) and the latency is unadjustable.

    - my Numark TC shows up in Traktor too, but the MIDI connection is a dead parrot.

I considered trying the ASIO4all driver, but so long as the Numark is paralysed, I'm not going to bother.

Thanks for all the updates guys! Basically the reason I thought I might switch was because of the DPC latency spikes I was getting that were caused by my 8400m Graphics Card adjusting its core speeds. I can get everything working fine no problem in Vista by disabling this feature, but it makes the GPU dangerously hot in a club.

I installed Windows 7, and the problem persists so I just jumped straight back to Vista for now as I am performing soon and need to get a good 20 hours of testing under my belt on the fresh format. Just for people's information! My comp spec is in my Sig, Traktor v1.1.2.

Hi have you tried updating your graphic driver, the best place for this is http://laptopvideo2go.com/

If you go into the forums you can get a modded .inf file. (if having problems with latest nvidia install)

    Regards

I've got an 8400m and yes it runs hot. Apparently it is not very well insulated so plenty of people are having problems whereby their GPU/Motherboard just fails. However I don't get any dropouts in Vista and my overall laptop temperature in Win7 appears to be lower.

Been running 7 since Jan. At that time I switched from Traktor 3 to Pro. No major Problems so far. Im going to upgrade to 64 bit when they release it in Aug. So far 7 has been compatible with ALL applications and Software/hardware. So many people say it wont work with 7, but just always install or act as if your still on Vista. I did actually hear Vista runs much better now.

I dont think I would do this? Vista and W7 are much larger and I dont see the benefit? I use both because of necessity. Other than that I would stick with XP.
    BUT, GOOD LUCK

Just heard from Numark that they intend to make the Total Control driver for Win 7 "after it is released" so Win 7 is a no go for me.

I'd still be with XP too given the choice, unfortunately my lappi came with Vista, no XP option :(

Installed Traktor Pro on Windows 7 Pro (acutal release, not beta or RC1) last night.

The Windows 7 install was just too easy... OK it was a new hard disk. But the whole thing took about 40 mins from start to finish with all drivers installed automatically. Amazing.

The Traktor Pro install was fiddly. Don't bother with Service Center until the end.
Installed my sound card (audio kontrol 1 for me), installed Traktor 3 LE, then installed Traktor Pro and the Service Center on top to update everything.

Had to download the new Audio Kontrol 1 driver from NI, but other than that was fine.

One irritating bit though........... re-imported my music collection, re-imported my settings. However my Playlists + Favourites are showing as little red Xs with nothing in them.

Anyone know what causes this and how to get them back?

Performed my first gig in the real world at the weekend with Traktor Pro and Windows 7.

I was a bit worried as Traktor had unexpectedly shut down on me earlier in the day when prepping some tracks - it's the first time I'd seen it do that on XP or Win7 - so I was a little cautious.

During the gig it worked like a breeze. Totally solid.

I also left my laptop on all night last night (by mistake!) - Traktor was ready to rock when I opened the lid this morning :)

I'm considering a move to Windows 7, but I'm also considering adding XP and dual booting. The reason is that I run this laptop online when I'm not gigging, but want to shut off what I don't need when at the club. XP allowed you to have different hardware profiles per user account, Vista is pants and doesn't.

Question is: does Windows 7 allow you to have a different hardware profile as easily as XP did?

I am running all BETA (TP 1.2 and win7 32 betas) and love it. I played a 7 hour night last weekend and did not have a single glitch.

One thing I've noticed which is nice is that the Audio8 can now be plugged into any USB Port and work fine without having to re-install the drivers :)

I am running Traktor pro on Windows7 Enterprise RTM (Release to Manufacture) acquired via my Microsoft Tech Net subscription, this is the Retail version set to release in October. So far no issue's what so ever in fact my dpc latency is in the green at all times right around 300us and Traktor has run flawlessly so far. To boot i did the upgrade from Vista business instead of a clean install just to see how it would do vs an clean install and so far all is good.

I am very impressed with the Windows7 experience thus far and I am confident Traktor will run great on this OS.

Guys, did you find your Audio 8 DJ units installed without any issues or did any of you get the windows message about the driver not installing properly, but then it still working?

Also, do you run traktor in xp compatablity mode or just normally in windows 7?

Can't tell anything about the Audio 8, but it's common in Windows 7 that you get a message that something didn't install properly. Windows just asks whether it installed properly or not. I had this with a lot of apps but never ran into any issues.

    Traktor doesn't need compatability mode.

I had a few issues with Windows 7 and pops and glitches but they have all been resolved. Here's how I did it:

After installing W7 I had pops and gliches so first I tried to adjust the ASIO latency. Even at high settings I was still getting pops and glitches.

Next downloaded the DPC latency checker tool. I was showing 1-3 spikes every 25 secs or so. I tried disabling unnecessary devices in device manager (biometric reader, dvd drive, usb devices and so on). Nothing worked so it must be a bad driver for a necessary device. Next step was to grab a beer.

I turned off the firewire device which I need because I've got a Zero4, but still got spikes. After that I tried new chipset drivers but the spikes were still consistent with the other chipset driver. If there's no change it must be something else.

Finally I tried another (slightly older) nvidia driver and sure enough the spikes disappeared. I fired up Traktor Adapt (for my HDXs), opened TSP and grabbed another beer for testing purposes. Finally it's smooth as butter!

I hope these troubleshooting steps help someone else.

Traktor Adapt is used to set the Korg Zero4 to full duplex mode when using cd timecode. It will not help with any latency issues.

What devices did you try to disable in device manager?
