    Same here!

I just grabbed a new HP Envy 17. While I know that there is some of the usual HP BS apps I still have to remove, it BS's unless I plug it into the USB port next to the beats knob...but then my traktor s4 cannot control the sound interestingly enough. Going to call NI support unless someone updates this thread soon...

Anyone else with this issue? How about running Win 7 x64 without issues?

Make sure you are plugging your S4 into a USB 2.0 port. It will not work with USB 3.0.

    Which USB?

This is exactly the issue I experienced at first, but it was resolved by using the only USB 2.0 port on the laptop...

I've got a brand new ASUS Zenbook Prime (UX31A)... having the same troubles as described above: Bluescreen when plugging in the S4 and changing the audio device to ASIO S4 Audio. It seems to work when i use the Realtek audio device of the notebook.

The Problem is that there are acutally no usb 2.0 ports anymore.. :(

What can I do now? Is it possible to change the usb mode of one usb port from 3.0 to 2.0?

UPDATE: When I look up the bluescreen error code on msdn (0x0000010D - parameter 1 = 0x6 & parameter 2 = 0x3) I get the following error description:

"The driver attempted to send a framework request that has already been sent to an I/O target."

I don't know what this means exactly but in my opinion it is a driver bug and NI should fix this immediately.

it's not actually a NI problem. you're trying to use a USB2.0 device (the audio 4 that is basically inside the s4) on a USB3.0 port.

NI is working on a workaround, but on the win side there are no releases yet.

    USB 2.0 limitations

Ihave not tried this, since my laptop (HP Envy 17 3D) has one USB 2.0 port (all I need), but if you only have USB 3.0 ports, you could try plugging a USB 2.0 hub into tthe 3.0 port - maybe thing will work then? I may try that tonight...

I've seen Windows 7 crashing with a bluescreen *every* time I start Traktor when using Audio 8 DJ on a USB 3 port.

I tweaked Windows to write stack traces / memory dumps to disk while crashing, and I analyzed them, and the reason for the bluescreen is NI's driver (audio8dj.sys or whatever it was called). So it's clearly a bug in NI's driver! The driver should never crash Windows! If there's something unexpected the driver should error out and refuse to work, not crash.

So hopefully NI fixes this soon!

please do your homework... it's an USB3.0 problem that cause the problems for the older NI audio devices.
it's the computer manufacturers. not NI.

I have done my homework. I used Windows kernel developer debugging tools to capture and analyze crash dumps from multiple sessions when I plugged in Audio8 DJ and started Traktor Scratch Pro 2. Windows 7 immediately crashes with a bluescreen. I analyzed the dumps with windows kernel crash analysis tools, and the reason for the Windows bluescreen crash was: "C:\Windows\system32\drivers\a8djusb.sys".

    Enough said.

    Usb 3.0

I just got off the phone with NI support and it is as DJ Freshfluke says. I was pretty shocked because I bought my new laptop partly because it has Windows 7 vs my old Vista machine which doesn't work with the S4 USB audio interface. I also bought it for speed and memory gains. Since its a new machine it only has USB 3.0 ports. When you are using USB 3.0, it shows the S4 in Traktor settings but it can't connect to it.

I heard from NI that they are releasing the Mac version of Traktor with USB 3.0 support soon but he didn't know when there would be windows spport.

Native Instruments: When are you going to get the USB 3.0 suport for Windows? I can't wait for fixes in Windows 8 to handle this.
