I will have an S4 on my deck stand as soon as possible. I currently use a Xone 4D and I am hard pushed to find a reason not to sell the 4D and change to the S4.

2 minor niggles are 1, there are fewer volume level indicator lights so that will make my sound levels less accurate and 2, the beat jog wheels on the S4 are in my opinion a space for buttons wasted-those 2 beautiful spaces could have been used to duplicate the blocks of buttons below. I see another controller on the horizon (the SS4).

Roll on release. I stand to have £500 in my back pocket if I sell the 4D and buy the S4!

    Hi PhilL,

I traded email with Vangelis in CA about the S4 Beta Program; I missed out. He suggested I connect here with you to see if you knew of any additional beta offerings on this controller/software. More importantly, who do I need to bribe... .;)

A LOT of great questions on this thread, BTW - I'm sorry I came so late to the table on the forums.

    Thanks in advance,
    Phil (seeryous)

Does the extension for the Kontrol S4 contest mean that its release will be postponed? I sure hope not! :(

    Welcome To The Forum

There is no set date for the release (never has been) so any delay would not really be a delay.
If you have been given a release date from a retailer it is not an approved NI release date.

I keep hearing that some retailers have told people to expect there S4s on November 1st.
This is absolutely not true. There is no set date. If it comes out on the 1st then thats great but NI have never said to expect release on that date.

In PhilLs absence (as you posted this a few days ago) ill field this.
Questions about the Beta-List cannot be answered here.

You should contact Forum Admin who may pass you on to the correct person.

The Beta for S4 and KS4 is well underway, id be very surprised if any additions were made at this time.

Does anyone know if you can change the pitch range (8, 10, 16% etc) directly on the controller with the tempo offset buttons?

In the S4 software each sample deck has 4 'samplers' with a dedicated volume and filter control for each sampler - where are these controls on the hardware controller?

And why oh why did N.I. forget to put a key-knob + button on the controller!
They allready forgot Key as well as Filter knobs+buttons on the KX1 => Now, they did include Filterknobs but no Key.

Here are my fails for the KS4 (which I believe I will love anyway, but oh why oh did N.I. not think this controller through):

    1.) No XLR main-outs
2.) No separate booth output control.
3.) Only 4 cuepointbuttons - why not 8 per Deck? Using shift whilst cuepoint-bashing sucks!
    4.) No controls for all 4 FX-units!
    5.) No key-knob+button
    6.) No XLR mic-in

    :( :S :|

I recommend that you take a look at the "hardware interface explorer" before bitching here, those controls actually exist on the S4, I challenge you to find them. :D

If asking a legitimate question is now bitching then this forum has gone to sh*te. There is only one knob for filter and one for volume per sample deck - ie there is not 'dedicated' hardware controls for each of the 4 samplers. If I want to adjust the volume of 2 samplers at the same time in the left deck how do I do this?

one way would be just to lower the volume for that channel on the volume fader. I know thats not what you were looking for, maybe you have three going and only want to lower two....but thats one option.

Thanks haze - I had thought of this - its not ideal but its something at least. I would like to see the feature implemented whereby when you load a track a predefined 'set' or 'group' of samples gets loaded with their own volume and filter settings. This set is associated with the track and can also be edited at any time (samples changed and vol and filter settings adjusted). I know this is not the answer for on the fly creative stuff but it would help a bit. Any other ideas welcome.

As I said before, I think the set/group of samples is a pretty nice idea, BUT, I have to say, it seems like there are a whole lot of requests, gripes, and complaints for a product that very, very few people have actually used yet. Maybe, just maybe, we should all wait to get our hands on these things before we start to ask why it can't do X or how do you do Y. After all, we know that the S4 can be reprogrammed just like any MIDI controller, so isn't it possible that a good number of the requests here could be handled by some creative programming?

Did anyone say something about the front cue/mix knob? I know that you can map your knobs as you want to but why the hell is it on the front side?

+1. Not fond of that placement either. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but still, it seems pretty non-standard.

Hi and welcome to the forum! ;)
Changing the key ("note"/"sound" f.ex. A-minor or C-Major etx.) of the track you are playing!
This helps if you wanna mix in key!
