as per NI's FAQ you could use other audio interfaces and soft route the outputs as desired (and supported, which will most likely be identical to TP/TSP).

A note to keep in mind is that if you intend to use S4 as DVS, you'll need to either use the internal interface or add an approved/certified one.

Basically, answer to your question is YES, you can.

just use it like you would any other midi controller.

one usb from computer to S4
one usb from computer to soundcard

Traktor Pro S4 options, select your external soundcard and route your moniter and master to the apporiate channels.

Then run your rca master out of your sound card to your mixer channel. It would only be one channel on your mixer if you were to control the sound internal. I don't think you could route each deck into a channel on your mixer, but if you can, you would route each deck from your sound card into each channel.

At a minimum you can route your master out into one channel on your mixer.

That's what i wanted....... route each deck from the soundcard to each channel of the external mixer......i ca do it in the same way i do now with Traktor Pro + Kontroller X1 + external mixer?
so i have an option in S4 software to switch to external mode....then select the external soundcard and then connect all ?

Yeah good question... Simply select the Recording Source on the Loop Recoder as AUX and you can record the Mic.

I would like to ask the other way around: Why would you want to use the S4 controller if you use/have an external mixer?

believe you turn the encoder to select the size of the loop and then press it down to start the loop

Correct. Plus you can press the Left Encoder to Activate a previously Stored Loop.

I'd like to buy the S4 controller because i think it's a very very good controller, i like the way it is projected and i'm very interested in the new features of the S4 software (loop decks i.e.) but i'd like to use with an external mixer like i use now my Traktor Pro with my Traktor X1 controller.
so in your opinion Rainer: is it correct buy the S4 controller if i want to use it with an external mixer without using the mixer functions of S4 controller? Or maybe for me would be better to add a second X1 controller to my actual setup?

S4 controller is designed for use with the Internal Mixer.
As the timecode functionality is not yet implemented it will not be possible to use the software in External Mixer mode.

I "think" External Mixing Mode will be brought back when the Timecode function is introduced. This is just my speculation.

Im stating this so that users dont purchase KS4 with the expectation the External Mode is an option.

    Note:
There is currently NO information about the timecode feature or when it will be introduced. This statement is final.

Thank U Karlos, that's the answer i was waiting for. Now the question for me is about changing to internal mix mode and buy the KS4 or adding another KX1 to my setup!

Yeah. I understand the reasoning. I used to use external mode exclusively some years ago but now i use Internal Mode with Midi Controllers if im not using DVS timecode.

Can i ask why you need to use and external mixer?

Can anyone comment on the build quality and feel of the faders? I have a Kontrol X1 and the quality of the knobs and buttons on this is excellent, but it has no faders. On the videos the faders on the S4 look a bit loose and plastic-y?

looked it up and couldn't find an exact measurement.

What is the size of the jogs?

I've read about 4 and about 5 inches?
    Thanks.

The faders feel better than they look in the pictures.
The lovely glossy pics don't really do justice to them in my opinion.

They certainly aren't loose or too plasticy and the xfader is totally scratch worthy .
The channel faders are quite short and for thus reason I'm glad they aren't too loose.
There is mixed opinion on this though.

Cant remember the jog wheel spec. I'll have a look and post up. Might have to get the tape measure out.
They arent as big as the VCI 300.

If it says so in the Specification then it is. NI wont state it if it isnt tested.:)

    Also:
Macbook Pro Depth = 10.51 inches (26.7 cm)
    KS4 Case Depth = 12.7 inches (32.2cm)

    So the answer is maybe..?

The one in the pic is 15" which is 9.82 inches (24.9 cm) deep.
