Thanks for the reply Phil. Too bad NI did'nt include the native mix recorder in the S4 software. Adopting the 1.2.6 audio recorder is totally a sign of regress. I know there were stability issues in the native mix recorder in the past versions of Traktor, but NI designers should have found a way to progress design instead of totally ditching this feature. Im just disappointed.

In the video it says the software has a"default" set up with Deck A&B for standard tracks, and C&D for sample decks.
I guess you could also choose 4 standard decks without that sample function?

I'm wondering if there will be also mappings for Traktor pro, so I could use the s4 also with the normal Traktor (if I don't need those sample decks).

My dealer in switzerland told me launch date November/December. We can already preorder one.

Our earlier statements still apply. The dates may or may not be accurate, we don't know and only NI can say. They have not, so it's pure speculation at this point. See karlos recent comments on the matter, we would like nothing more than to give some info in this area, plain fact of the matter is there is none.

Can't believe no one posted this here yet :)

4midiLoop - the dream controller for many people controlling most (almost all?) traktor has is about to become available:
    http://www.skratchworx.com/news3/comments.php?id=1526

It has all 8 cue points for all 4 decks ... oh, and it has all the 4 FX controls ... and it's smaller, so it will fit in most dj booths ...

If you were missing something in the S4, than there might be an answer for your wishes. Still, I'll patiently wait for the S4. It has all that I need and if it appears that I need more that'll just be the X1 as extension ...

    Cheers!

I had a very extensive discussion with another (wanna be) DJ on Facebook about the advantages of a proprietary or (perhaps more correctly) a specialized controller like the S4. Basically, I think there is a significant advantage to something that's purpose built to the software. That's especially true where you have to contend with mapping hundreds of MIDI commands as you would with this controller...

To all on this thread... How many times do you look at the S4 controller pictures per day?

You can connect to traktor kontrol s4 2 CDJ 2000 and manage two of the software covered kontrol and the other two with the CDJ 2000?
    And numark V7?
    Thanks

What I was getting at was that people are asking about these insanely complicated setups like 4 CD Decks, 2 X1s, an Audio 8, Maschine, and an external mixer plus the S4 are probably missing the point--this is about having everything in one unit. I'm sure there will be plenty of ways to integrate the S4 with other hardware/software but is that really a topical question here or at this time?

I see your point. I try to figure out how I could replace the vci100 for the S4 and use my external mixer at the same time. The S4 is tempting for me, particularly for the HID and sample trigger options. Especially in a club environment. For studio use, I doubt if it is useful for me. Since I have invested in audio8dj, Maschine and other equipment, it's not clear yet if it's worth for me to add the S4.

Yeah, personally I'm about 99% sure that I'm going to switch from my current Mackie d.4 and BCR2000 setup to the S4. If I go through with it, it will mark the very first time that I've ever used a strictly controller/internal mixing solution. I've always been really hesitant to move away from an external mixer, but I really think the tide is turning. For me, it's a combination of the fact that my current mixer has been discontinued (meaning that eventually I'm going to have to go to something different at some point in the near future) coupled with the fact that Traktor seems to have reached a point where it's at least as (if not more) reliable than most of my other gear and the advantages that an integrated system like this brings to the table.

Ohh no, please don't tell me that the new software/controller took away cruise mode. This would be very heartbreaking. I NEED this!

Where... why... what makes you think that..?

    Relax, Cruise is still there.

Have a question and am not able to find any relevant info. Hope someone here could answer it:

How could a Machine fit with the S4 without additional hardware? The S4 is running in internal mode. Would it work if machine is set to output to the master out in parallel to Traktor? Would it be possible to Cue/Monitor Maschine? Could it run without loosing a deck in Traktor? Could it run instead of a Traktor deck?

If some of you guys, with both TP/TSP and Maschine, knows how this would work or could try Traktor in Internal mode with Maschine outputting to the same pair of channels and share if it usable, it would be great. I'm just wondering if it's possible and convenient to simulate a Maschine channel (sort of 5th channel) without extra hardware and only with the controls already available on the units.

Personally, I am not ready yet to leave my external mixer out of the equasion. Although in a live environment, I am completely digital, I like the feel of the mixer and its fx capabilities. But, agreed, Traktors' maturity is coming close for raising such dilemmas. Lets see how the S4 actually "feels".

One other thing, will you be able to use both Kontrol S4 and Maschine(as a midi controller) in the software? I mean it would be really nice to control the samples, the hotcues and the loops with the maschine, and control deck A and B with the S4.

    Welcome To The Forum

The Kontrol S4 will be in Native NHL mode so you can use Maschine as a midi controller with no problems.

The Kontrol S4 has a dedicated section for Sample/Loop control so i guess you wouldnt need the Maschine but im sure it would be a cool setup.

Maschine is a cool controller for the Sampler in S4 ;)

Ill definetly be looking to use the Kontrol S4 on its own.
Its fun using my VCI 100 and an X1 or MidiFighter but as Gmint has mentioned the beauty of the KS4 is that it will be an all in one solution.

    The possibilities are endless:D
