    Dear all,

I've searched high and low to try and find the answers to these simple questions, so hopefully you guys should be able to answer them easily.

    Here is my setup:
Behringer DDM4000 4-channel mixer (which is Traktor compatible with MIDI outs)
    Numark 12" vinyl decks
    Audio 8 DJ interface

Basically, I'm running out of room for vinyl and would like to incorporate some mp3 (via the computer) mixing into my sets. I would still like to use my decks, but INCLUDE the ability to mix using music stored on my PC. So, is it possible to use Traktor duo (or pro) to be able to mix 4 decks (2 physical vinyl decks and 2 virtual decks on the PC)?

Simply, I'd like to be able to play a vinyl on one of my decks, then mix in an MP3 song stored on my PC via my 4-channel mixer. After this, I'd then like to be able to mix in another MP3 stored on my PC or revert to mixing in another vinyl on my Numark decks. Since I've got a 4 channel mixer, is there a way of doing this with Traktor? And for this do I require the 4-deck Traktor Pro version, or since only 2 of my decks are virtual can I "get away" with Traktor Duo?

Lastly, if I'm playing a vinyl, can I use the beat sync function in Traktor to auto beat-match MP3's stored on my PC for easier mixing? I know I can't use the beat-match function the other way around (ie I would have to manually adjust the vinyl pitch to mix in a vinyl song).

Sorry for the long message (and probably poorly written), but before I buy Traktor Duo (or Pro) I'd like to know what is possible.

    Many thanks!
    Dave

4 decks are only in PRO possible.
please explain also: do you want to manipulate your MP3s with timecode vinyl or do you plan to use regular vinyl side by side to MP3s?

from your posting i'm not sure and to give you a proper answer, i need to know.

The Audio 4 DJ never had these button. Traktor Bible says:

"In order to function properly when using timecode you need to select the correct input mode for Audio 4 DJ as well. The Audio 4 DJ hardware doesn’t have a mode switch as the Audio 8 DJ. You need to use the Audio 4 DJ settings tool to configure the input mode. You can run this tool by starting it from the program group/folder Native Instruments/Audio 4 DJ Driver.
Use the option Vinyl Control if you are using turntables and timecode. Select Line (CD Control) if you either are using timecode CDs or of you want to use the Audio 4 DJ without timecode control. You can use the option Phono, if you want to record and digitize normal vinyl with the Audio 4 DJ. After selecting the input mode in the settings tool the LEDs at the upside of the Audio 4 DJ hardware show the current mode."

Then I would recommend to download the free timecode/calibration tutorial from here:
    http://www.traktorbible.com/en/tutorial5.aspx
The tutorial has several pictures of how the scope can look like and what you can see from the scope

You need to start the Audio 4 DJ Settings Tool from your application folder.

true, you have to toggle to the right mode using the settings tool.

it is not contradictory, but probably not well put in words...

most mixers have per channel only phono/line inputs, some mixers have a phono/line plus another line input per channel.

if you have a mixer with only ph/line on one channel, dont connect the mixer TT/CD not at all. only connect the mixer line in.

if you have a mixer with ph/line + line, then you connect the mixer TT/CD cable with the ph/line input (switched on line, usually to choose on the back of the mixer) and the mixer line in with the other line input.

switched on ph/line (line) you're able to use normal CDs too, switched on line you can play timecode CDs.

    sounds confusing?

check this pic to understand what i mean...

waht do you mean with "cant run the app"?
    - is the app not there?
    - do you get an error message?
    - are you on Won or on Mac?

as you have a mixer with phono/line combined and as you use cdjs you cannot connect all cables.

    - connect the line out from the CDJ to the IN of the A4DJ (this transports the timecode signal)
    - connect the line out from A4DJ to the Line In of the mixer
    - set the mixer channel to Line Input

dude i think i used to have the same problem with you
the solution was - go to setup wizard - choose audio4dj - TRAKTOR SCRATCH (make sure u dont choose the other audio4dj options - i chose audio4dj - external at first and it didnt work and it took me awhile before i realised that you have to choose audio4dj - traktor scratch - and its not very clear in the manual too)

plus make sure u choose the correct phono/line-in in the audio4 setup panel (theres no buttons on the audio4dj - u gotta do it thru the configuration page)

    and now: http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/4087/cdcalibrfailedskipping.jpg

    My mixer back panel:

    http://123dj.net/mixers/urei/urei1601front.jpg

rainerh: your connection is good, i hear the music. But i have the same result with internal mode and external mixer without timecode
cd players are useless IMO. What is the sins timecode cds?

Your book must be very interesting, i will probably buy it.
    ---
ZILCH: i fix it rainer's way http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=83111&page=20. because can,t solve this problem in setup wizard. Every time i tried set choose audio4dj - traktor scratch i have this settings http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/5708/setupwizzard.jpg again.
I have correct configuration :) but still problems with cd calibration. I start turntable calibration now

    What am I doing wrong?

    Just got Traktor Scratch DUO.
The signals show up in the timecode calibration screen. They're assigned to the correct decks. The audio 4dj control panel is set to vinyl control. Everything sounds goods. The only problem is that the timecode isn't controlling the tracks.
Someone please tell what my dumb ass is overlooking.

click the deck letter and set the deck operation mode to "Scratch Control"
then you should see two buttons looking luike turntables in the decks
use either absolute or relative mode so that timecode controls the deck

    Dear NativeGirl,

Thanks for the reply. I think I *may* have worked this out, but please correct me if I'm wrong:

If I buy Traktor Scratch Pro (with timecode vinyls), I can plug my Audio 8 DJ (with the dedicated RCA leads) into my mixer's phono input ASWELL as my mixer's line input. This way, if I want to control MP3's via the timecode vinyl, I simply make sure one of my channels is set to "line", whereas if I want to mix a normal song on vinyl, I change the input selector on my mixer to "phono". This way it allows me to mix in a vinyl track? If this is the case, does the vinyl's output still go through the Traktor software? If it does, then is it possible for Traktor Scratch Pro to detect what the BPM is of tracks I'm playing on traditional vinyl to aid in accurate beatmatching when mixing in MP3 songs?

Sorry for my lack of expertise............
    Thanks again!
    Dave

    Hi Dave
Everything you described to can do with Traktor Scratch Pro as well as with Traktor Scratch Duo, but....the song being played from normal vinyl will bypass traktor via the multicorecables and go directly into the mixer therefore Traktor will not be able to a.) detect the bpm and b.) to beatmatch the song via sync function!

There is a way in TSPro (I think) to apply the TSPro effects to the normal vinyl song but this can only be on by changing the setupcabling and switchin one of the four decks to "Through"....

@ All TSP Users, please correct me if my answer (the point/part about the TSPro "Through"-thing) needs correction...or is wrong!

Hey Endy. Just wanna ask couple of question on your situation:

    - If the ctrl+arrows does anything to your Traktor, what does it do?
    - Did you upgrade the new version 2.1?

Got it working again, for example ctrl and left arrow load a track to the left deck also you can go thru your tracks by using the up and down arrows.

I did upgrade and when back to version 1.1.0 because on the upgrade version the decks don't show the time into a track and i need that to mix my tracks I don't know why NI would take this feature out so I wont upgrade again till they do something about this....
