Coming from Traktor DJ Studio 3, I was able to lock my playlists to prevent "accidents" from happening.

I've migrated over to Traktor Scratch Pro 2 finally - how do I lock my playlists in TS Pro 2?

    Thanks.

TSP2 does not have a lock function.

if you accidentally hit one of the headlines in the browser, you can restore the original order by clicking on the # columns headline.

What about when you do a bunch of work on a playlist, then lose your work because of a Traktor "glitch" which clears out the entire playlist or changes it in a way which makes it unusable? I've had plenty of cases where the user interface acts funky when I try to drag something somewhere and something gets jacked in my playlist. If that playlist would have been lockable after the changes it would have been fine.

In the above case there is no "backup" of the playlists (since they are stored in the collection file).

Very disappointing to come from Traktor DJ Studio and see how important features have been "lost" or "removed".

I make a back up of my collection NML file when i've got everything how i want it including playlists then if anything happens i can at least get it back to the way i like it by copy and pasting it back into my native Instruments folder...!

You can use the 'Consolidate' feature (right/ctrl click on a playlist). This sets the default sort order of the playlist. If you alter the list you can resort it back to the default.

I agree that the lock should not have been removed.

To save playlists as you work you can use the "Save Collection" feature which is Traktors "Save" feature. I do this periodically as im preparing my set.

I also export the collection NML daily to a folder outside the Traktor folders. I delete old ones over time.

i have only seen that in the forums a) very rarely and b) only with older versions of traktor (i.e. 1.2.7). i have had no case so far with a current version and btw, personally never encountered this.

I appreciate the responses and alternate suggestions.

    @DJ Freshfluke:

I still get occasional UI "strangenesses" that cause me to lose a playlist track, cause unwanted playlist mergers, and sometimes playlists to be cleared. I have some very large playlists so maybe these issues crop up only based on the size of the playlist.

I also encountered an unlrelated playlist issue where "dragging and dropping" tracks into a playlist didn't actual get stored. The new playlist was blank, and after dragging tracks into the playlist, that playlist was still blank.

    @Karlos:

I tried to find more information in the manual and on the forums about playlist "consolidation" but couldn't find anything.

So, as you've explained it, if I consolidate a playlist, the current visible track order becomes the permanent (indexed) track order?

    Thanks.

Yeah, it becomes the default Sort Order for that playlist so should you sort it by name you can resort it back to the default state.

not sure what you mean by "UI strangenesses"?

anything in that direction has been only reported (and only absolutely rarely) in older versions of traktor, i.e. 1.2.7.

I get "UI Strangeness" at times when moving the order of tracks in a playlist with dragging / dropping (within the same playlist. The playlist track doesn't actually move, or the wrong track moves. It seems to be random so I can't give you instructions on how to make it happen. I believe it has to do with Traktor doing some other operation and has a problem with that playlist change while doing something else.

Another problem that I have constantly is when selecting a playlist, all of the tracks in the playlist get highlighted. I'm assuming this has to do something with a double-click where all tracks in a playlist are selected. I've never intentionally used double-click for this purpose since I always use CTRL-A to select all tracks in a playlist.

When all tracks in a playlist get selected, if I try to de-select all tracks (un-highlight) by single-clicking on a track, somehow the track that gets clicked is moved into a different position.

I just see a lot of potential for jacked playlists because of strange things that occur with playlist manipulation. Locking playlists should be available to prevent these possibilities.

I can usually reproduce this pretty easily. Using the explorer nav or by searching for songs, drag and drop highlighted tracks into an empty playlist. It usually works correctly more than it doesn't work at all, but it does happen.

this behaviour you call ui strangeness has been discussed over and over again in the german forum, anyway.... ni does not see any necessity of bringing back that very worthful feature playlist lock, what i claimed too, over and over again to no avail yet...
    since at least 2 years...

    cheers

    Also a neverending story :)
I also liked the old lock function of traktor3..

It is really happening from time to time that traktor seems to just add one playlist to another. This is from my point of view in most cases a self created problem but these things happen when humans work on computers ;) This is not a bug but a problem the support cannot solve!

Just a reminder from the practical point of view for the developers that sit behind a comfortable desktops ;) Many Djs are working in quite "unergonomic" dark environments. They have to live and to work with bad touchpads, keyboards and strange mouse behaviours. This is not a fault of NI but only one additional reason why such a playlist lock is useful.

Correct me if im wrong but the bad thing is that you dont mention when this "merge" is happening and that you mention it 99% exactly then when you dont have the time to care for it... When you are working live! Its just annoying to clean up a messed up playlist while you are djing.

Restoring a Playlist from a Backup is one way that might work in this situation. Personally would prefer to lock a few of my lists because its just unneeded addional work to backup every single playlist once i changed it. To be honest.. who is doing that?

The old lock feature was a very useful function. The question is why they removed it and if there might be a solution to make everyone happy. Complaining Users that wine around because they locked a playlist and wonder why the cannot edit them are also not a solution ..

NI wanted to make the behavior similar to itunes back then, that was the reason.

trust me i was begging over and over again to reimplement this neccessary feature.
unfortunately the most common answer was that it was removed cause itues does not have it either.

and that only a very little minority is wishing it back.

    cheers

...given that there are exactly 3 persons in a thread that is ~9 months old that are wanting this function back, i completely agree with NIs line here.
