It's Sasha at club 1015 Folsom in San Francisco about 10 years ago (give or take a couple). It's a legendary pic by a guy called Dean Belcher.

I've added the original image as a .zip attachment to this post. In order to get it like mine, Photoshop out the guys name, then use a program called 'Rasterbator' to blow it up.

Amazing, the split second I looked at the pic I recognized the booth structure. Sparks quite a reminiscent moment for myself as more times than I can remember I've stood in the exact spot as the photographer was standing during the same time period that photo was taken. Yep, thats the ol' skool dj booth and the club has been completely remodeled on the inside and out since back in the hayday. My buddy played for Spundae Productions and Club 1015 back then on those same decks in the pic and I'm certain Sasha was playing a Spundae event in that photo. Had to have been pre-1998 as smoking in clubs and bars in California became outlawed at around that time. I can even see the head of Micro the lighting tech in the pic at the far right over Sasha's back. In my flyer collection I have several from Spundae's Sasha & Digweed events and I'm sure I have the flyer for the event of this photo. S.F. went GAGGA over the Sasha & Digweed pair for sure and 1015 was guaranteed jam packed with those names in the line-up. No clue what the scene is now though I got outta dodge(s.f. and cali) about 5 years ago and never looked back. Anyway, thanks for the memory slice there Recess!

Yup, that's me. The Dummies thing has been an incredible sucess, I'm so happy people are buying it, and responding well to it (and to my sense of humour!)

It's one of the reasons I went digital, so when the next edition comes out in a couple of years, there'll be more info in the book about Digital Djing.

Oh - and ProphasE - thanks for such a great post, you painted the time and the scene so well, and I'm glad the pic brought it out of you.

Keep the beats tight folks - and stay away from that 'sync' button!

    John

There was something familiar with the name recess. When I read about websites and dummies it came to me.

It must have been like 7-8 years since then. Then where the homepage had this as a start. Anyone can beatmatch only a few will be dj's. I still say these words at myself.

I remember trying to read at a black font with yellow letters if I am not mistaken. Anyway it was dark. And it had many many words. Useful words that told you things the way they were-are without confuse you.

Just wanted to say thanks about helping me get a feel about djing.
    Hope you are well.

Hi, have you checked in the forum over there (http://www.kontrol-dj.com/)? There's a new app for configuring the Midi settings, also it depends on what you want to use the wheels for - pitch bending, scrolling or scratching.. I'm sure you'll get an answer rather quickly.. I'd help you but am very busy with other stuff these days so haven't got the setup running with the new Traktor version right now.

    Cheers, h00la

This is how I set up this past Saturday...

I turned an Odyssey flight case top upside down...
    DJM-800
    MBP on an Uberstand
VCI-100se on 2 Auralex MoPad Monitor Isolation Pads (http://images.guitarcenter.com/products/optionlarge/Auralex/251332jpg.jpg). I've also custom cut them to fit on a CDJ-1000 mk3 without touching the platter or messing with the pitch control, start/stop release knobs, or reverse switch...lol
