This has probably been asked before

But i have some audio drop out issues since i started using a new laptop that runs on vista.
Without the internal cpu meter of traktor going in the reds!
    s weird
I know that in XP i had to change the power supply to my usb hubs so they got enough juice to keep my midi controllers going but i can't seem to find no such option in this damn Vista

    I got an acer aspire 5520/ AMD turion 64 x2 Dual core/ 4Gb DDR2/ Hercules DJ Console RMX/ Akai MPD24

I have the same laptop and the same prob!

Hows your prob at the moment? Did you fix it?
I send my specs of the laptop to the tech team today. I was wondering if the prob could be in the bus speed of the CPU. Did you ever notist that when you move you mouse it some times stalls in the middel of your screen! I ask some guys on Youtube who have the same laptop and they all have the same prob.

I also dit the latency chek but this was oke. Btw have you closed you wifi apliction? This used to mes up my traktor prog.

I have the same prob with Windows 7 (dual booth) but way lesser.

Let me know whats you situation now. Because aim at the point to buy a nw laptop because of this prob!

I am am trying to run demo Traktor on new Dell Vista laptop to see if there are any probs before I purchase. I managed to install but it freezes after starting up? I previously had the same trouble with Beatport Sync. This does not happen on my old Dell XP laptop.

Is this a Vista problem or is this softaware not fully compatible. I have been trying to get an answer from support for a week, but nothing? Although I really want to use Traktor the problems and lack of support do not bode well.

Out of curiosity, are you guys using a clean installation of Windows or are you using the installed version that came with the laptop ?

If the case of the version installed with the laptop, did you think to do a clean up of all the applications and programs that you will not use and followed the recommandations in the guide I suggested before ?

In my case it was the usual pre install with all the Dell bells & whistles.

Whilst I respect that serious dedicated DJs would want to go to these extreme and probably have a laptop separate just for DJing, surley software can be made simple enough not to require such drastic measures.

I used my old XP Dell laptop in the same way for 4 years with no problems. It was constantly connected to the internet, ran Traktor, iTunes, Napster plus a range of other audio editors etc. No problems at all.

The odd thing is that the problems only occur with Native Instruments software. I have tried other DJ software trials that work ok although I am have trouble getting my new Indigo Echo DJ sound card to separate main output and headphones despite using the same settings that worked on my old laptop.

I was hoping that by the latest version of the same laptop with the latest software etc I would see an improvement. It has so for been a total nightmare; So much for progress.

hey guys, i also had similar issues with my new xps 1330, but I found the solution that will prob fix most peoples issues with vista. Had drop outs, clicks, was pissing me off since it was a new laptop, wasnt making sense. Wasted my time disabling hardware, uninstalling and all the other stuff you guys have prob also done. When in fact the problem was simple.

I finally realized what I was doing wrong... I had my power plan for my laptop set for power saver as opposed to performance. It made a HUGE difference in CPU performance. If you click on your battery Icon in your icon tray you can switch between these settings. With traktor open you can switch between the two settings and observe the difference in CPU usage. My CPU usage with traktor idle goes from about 20 % to 2 % from power saver to performance.

Hopefully that is the issue with your setup.

I have a new dell studio xps, and I have switched from "power saver" to "performance" when running TSP, and this does not completely cure the poping and clicking.

Hey Dj Xel, I suggest you to use this forum http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82401 for all Dell studio related issues. I have a Studio 1555 and it works nice with the xponent controller and its integrated sound card

Thanks, already been through the thread from DJ Quartz. unable to find any DPC spikes as Quartz mentioned. Are you using the audio 8 sound card? I have not had any problems while in internal mode or on cdj's, in fact my troubles have only appeared while using the control vinyl. The studio and the studio xps lines are slightly different in that the studio line is running ddr2 ram and the studio xps line is running ddr3 ram (same ram used in the new unibody mac books). You have a very good processor in the p8600.

hmm, sorry it didnt work for you, but its still good to keep in mind to keep it on performance when using traktor. You should just make sure its the default setting when plugged in.

I found the solution. Buy a Macbook! Even the old ones with a single core 1.5 gihz runs without anny probleme, lag, or audio drop outs. Its cost me a other 1145 Euro but the prob is fixt. I have the feeling traktor is not made for a windows machines, but others will disagree on this. The latency and CPU usage is so low comparing to my 2 months old windows laptop with 4 gig ram, 2. gihz dual core cpu. Was amazing!

Maby you can find a old macbook pro? I tested it with a old one of my father in law that was coverd with dust. Charged it, instal, and it did a pritty goog job i must say.

Then i bouth my nw mcpro. And aim in love with it!

Good luck man, i know how you feel.. :(

dudes i finally think i sorted my problems with traktor on my acer aspire 5520 running vista(pre installed).

I shut down the aero-visual skin that vista uses, you know, the glowy transparant look. It uses up too many RAM. my vista now looks like regular xp but is much faster.

I shut down my wireless iternet card and i shut down my webcam as i don't use these.

I also set the processor usage to optimalise for background processes instead of programmes, as most audio runs through these processes.

It seems like i got it sorted like this
I'll run a few more tests

check here if u still have problems

If you also run Process Hacker and disable apci.sys from running you can get the dpc's down low making it possible to run the application without the cpu spiking in the red.

@pascal- I followed lot of the tweaks described on the Support Area on NI and also faq that i saw on the Serato site for vista but my new laptop has funky issue with audio latency when running the dpc tester i would get some green + yellow and awfull red bars when i did test run in Traktor with pretty much everything disable loading mp3s off the hd from the laptop the audio would glitch badly and the cpu would max out. I did trick that DJ Quartz has mention on the Dell Studio Thread using Utility called Process Hacker and suspend acpi.sys that get my dpc in the green with no yellow spikes or red spikes and the cpu usage dropped down before i was running at 44hkz with latency set at 4 for usb and 8 for audio -- now i'm down to 1ms for USB and 5ms for audio at 96khz i can prob go down to 48khz and get the latency under 3 or 2 but that settings work for me.. Keep in mind the notebook i'm doing this on is normal one that i picked up on Sunday at bestbuy that was on sale for 550 bucks running fully bloated Vista install with just few things turned off.
