How do I do it? The manual instructions aren't working.

I have the dx7 set to transmit on midi channel 1. Midi out to midi in on my Focusrite Scarlett. FM8 in stand alone mode. Nothing happens when I hit transmit. I want to finally get some of my old custom presets into FM8!

    anyone?

    Thanks,

    Rick

You've to import SysEx. Transmit is to a hardware synth.

    Ok. Thanks!

So, I need to get the sysex file from my dx7 to my computer, then import. Don't quite know how to do that. Or import directly from the dx7.

I have seen that. How do I get a sysex file from my dx7 synth to my computer? I haven't found any info on this anywhere so far.

In standalone mode FM8 automatically receives any MIDI SysEx data in the recognised formats (do not click on Import SysEx; this process is automatic). Single Presets go into the edit buffer (and need to be stored manually), while Banks are converted into .ksd files and saved automatically.
In this text from page 109 is nothing about your hardware. How do you transmit from DX7 to software in later times?

I haven't done this before. FM8 doesn't seem to receive when I tell the dx7 to transmit the file. Something is missing here?

Ah man... dx7 sends as sysex to where? I do I tell it or my computer to get it? If I say send, where is it going to wind up? How do I direct that?

Most hardware owners have an editor on pc or mac to receive dx7 format and save as sysex.

As I understand the manual you need a MIDI connection from out DX7 to in computer.
Load FM8 in standalone switch dx7 on and press send. IMO open the browser in FM8.
Can't help you more - never own a dx7 hw.

Found a text in my FM7 folder about DX200 bulk:

DX200 Import The Yamaha DX200 contains 384 sounds ("Voices"), each "Voice" is contained in a "Pattern". There are 128 User Patterns (RAM) and 256 Preset Patterns (ROM).

You can Bulk Send the 128 User Patterns to the FM7 via MIDI with the following operation: Start the FM7 in standalone mode and select the MIDI Input Port to which the DX200 MIDI Out is connected. Press button [15] (MIDI BULK) on the DX200 to select "Pttn" (Pattern). Press button [15] again twice to start transmission. The FM7 will extract the sound data and store it in its 128 memories. The whole operation takes about 5 minutes.
