Last week I did buy a new MacBook Pro and wanted to transfer all my NI Software. But of course "activation" is not possible, because it is not possible to deactivate anymore on the old computers. The "Service Center" (this terrible piece of software...) shows me a basket and invites me to buy all of it once more......
I did write two times to support. Both answer did tell me simply that deactivation was not necessary anymore and that I should read the Knowledge base, which I did, but couldn’t find anything about this. A hint on a particular webpage - if there is really one- would be the least I can expect! I did write a third time (in German, maybe my English is not good enough), because I already did sell my old Mac Book and have to make this transfer as soon as possible.
What is happening with the NI Support? I did not use it for quite a while, but it use to be working fine.

    Hello Igor,

the missing de-activation option is not part of the problem you have, it is just not necessary in the moment.

Usually you have to install our software on a new computer. Some users had success with using the Apple migration assistant, but this can also generate a lot of additional trouble, especially with wrong permission settings for the application's preference files. Though you usually can keep the sample libraries where they are, you might want to delete the preference files for not working products and install these from the original installation discs again in order to get these properly installed. You can find instructions for deleting preference files here:

? I did read my first post again, and to me it is clear, but it seams that we are not on the same planet!

I did install my software on a new computer! But I can not activate the software on this new computer, because the same NI software is activated on two other computers, One of them is out of use and I want to sell it it. But can not give it to my clients and I can not initialize the disk, with the NI activation on it. HOW TO PROCEED TO ACTIVATE MY NI PRODUCTS ON THE NEW COMPUTER, THIS IS THE QUESTION!

    Deutsche Uebersetzung:

Was passiert denn, wenn Sie Ihre Kontakt 2 Seriennummer in Service Center eingeben? Klappt dann die Aktivierung auch nicht? Schicken Sie in jeden Fall noch mal das Support File als Follow Up zu Ihrer Support Anfrage, welches Sie im Service Center 2 im Help Menü exportieren können.

Same problem transferring to New iMac

I'm having the same problem. I have Garritan stradivari (Kontakt2 player) and Battery2 and tried to move them to my new iMac (OSX 10.5.3) The Service Centre (latest version) tells me they are registered but there seems to be no way to unactivate them from the old computer so neither programme is usable at the moment. Anyone found out how to do this yet?

    Marius,

    Besten Dank

Still no Battery2 or Kontakt2 (Stradivari)

Hi all (wish I could read German :) )

While waiting for a reply from NI I tried reinstalling Battery2 on the new iMac. It tries to open the programme but gets as far as the matrix then says 'error, please reinstall' - aargh! All I want to do is deactivate from one of my computers and use my programmes on the new one - why is this turning out to be so difficult? I have six theatre projects where I now can't access the drum or violin parts from Cubase. I love these programmes, happily paid for them but I fail to understand why we can't transfer these legitimate programmes easily to new computers.

To quote a line from a song "Can it be that it was all so simple then?"

Sympathy to all having the same issues and hoping for help soon...

I did receive a constructive answer from NI support. But this is only concerning the Mac. It is necessary to trash the Preference files (.plist)
In both HD + User Library and then reinstall the last version of the NI software. This did work for me, I could activate Kontakt. I still do not understand the logic behind this, it looks like someone messed up by programing the new Service Center.

    Some Success...

I trashed the .plist files, in fact I just replaced them with the previous ones from the old computer and finally Kontakt/Garritan Stradivari is working - phew!

No success with Battery2 though. Tried the same procedure but it still starts to load the drum matrix then tells me there is an error and to reinstall the programme. Needless to say I've already done that twice already so I'll just have to wait for NI to reply.

Thanks for the tip, I'm feeling a bit better now :)

    You are welcome!
I just want to add tht NI should really made an effort for a better support. I did write them 3 times and only the fourth answer finally gave me a real answer to the problem. The first three where really besides the point, as if they do not care to read the question carefully. I was also simply told to read the manual (?) or to read the FAQ. As far as I could find out, by loosing my time, both of this writings do not contain an answer to the problem. One answer was even somehow a little bit arrogant. NI software is supposed to be for professional use (making a living with it. So this is not to be accepted.
As a general thought, I am wondering why the software programers are often changing things, which are working fine, until they are not working anymore.

    Hello Igor,

sorry that it took so long to solve this issue. I read your requests as well and I must say that part of the long resolving time was that the error description was not very clear.

I would like to use this opportunity to inform about our support telephone numbers. These can be found here:

    http://www.native-instruments.de/index.php?id=contactinfo

In more complicated cases like this and when the problem is not clear enough to our support team, calling us might be the better option.

    Hi Paul,

Battery 2 is not IntelMac compatible. This means that it will not appear inm a host that runs natively on an IntelMac platform. If you launch the standalone it will run in an emulated mode which might cause a lot of problems as well and is not supported by Native Instruments. We recommend to sue only native IntelMac versions like Battery 3 on this platform.

    Ah, so more money needed...

Hi Marius and thanks for replying,

So this is the problem with Battery2 - is there a good discount rate for ugrading to Battery3 for registered users?

I suppose this still means I can keep the two current versions running on the other computers if I upgrade to Battery3?

    Paul
