    With Kontakt 4, you have 43GB? of content that you will want to install.

    Some NI product updates are "full versions" (that could be installed on their own), but most are true "updates" (which are merely updated an expected base of files).

    As stated above, the best course of action with any NI software would be:
    -- install from the original product discs
    -- install the latest update

    I'm new to NI products and I'm a bit confused about product activation ... for example, I've activated Kontakt 4 on my internet-connected Windows 7 partition, but I usually work on an unconnected XP partition (dual-boot) on the same machine. If I offline-activate Kontakt on the XP partition, does that count as two activations? :confused:

    This could be really nasty in the event of hard disk failure ....

    Welcome =)

    Yes, it would be a second activation. However, in your drive failure scenario, the activatuions on the new drive would be treated as the original activations; your CPU and mainboard are still the same.

    Ok thanks. So it somehow knows the CPU and mainboard and remembers that we're legit?

    Yep- those are two of the components that make up the systemID.

    So ... even though it's the same CPU and mainboard, using it on two different patitions on the same hard disk (which by definition can't be active at the same time) counts as two activations, but if I put in a new harddisk, it doesnt' ... OK, now I'm totally confused.

    Is this documented somewhere? The license agreement certainly doesn't go into any great detail.
