OK, I have figured out what is happening.
NB: I have read the troubleshooting that is posted and this issue does not fit into any of the solutions.

1: I try to open standalone BS (SABS) and it says that my computer ID has changed: error 67

2: go through the activation for the SABS and after repeated problems somehow it works.

3: Open my Ableton Live app and try to instantiate BS and it comes up with the activate, buy, demo dialogue box. This is after it was working well in this environment before I authorised the SABS.

ISSUE: I seems that the activation application (apart from wanting to update itself everytime I open it!) will not allow me to activate BOTH versions of BS. It's a one only situation.

Need help. Or NI need to get a better system happening.

    cheers

    Here's what I am finding.

It would seem that I have x2 preference settings for Bandstand and this is most possibly the cause of the issue. One pref in the root preference folder and the other in the user folder.

1: The service centre authorizes and activates the BS plugin. BUT always comes up with an error before showing an activated BS. This affects the root folder prefs, I think.

2: The standalone BS needs the registration tool that came with the initial application to authorize it. It then nullifies the plugin which when initiated in Live makes me go through the whole activation process again. Sort of like an infinite regress or Kafkaesque routine.

I tried trashing the prefs in the user folder to no avail. It just reappears creating he same issue.

So what is the solution? Should I trash both prefs and go through the same process? The Service centre only seems to work on the plugin and not the standalone version.

In the main it would seem that one authorisation process nullifies the other and vice versa and never the twain shall meet.

Thanks for this DDAS but I live in Melbourne, Australia. Maybe NI could give me a call!

Given the current policy regarding charging for updates to Bandstand for Intel Mac Users. I'd suggest waiting to pay for an update until you know if you are going to have to pay again for an update that will work properly with 10.5 when it is released this spring or summer. Otherwise you may have to pay twice.

    Hi all,

the support announcement at the top of this forum lists the main issues with activation. if that does not help, please open a support request.

having 2 plists is by design, though!

    best,
    Markus

Maybe this is the problem I'm having with BS.

I can use it as a plug-in with Digital Performer, but it WILL NOT open a midi file in standalone. Nothing. Zilch.

Tech Support have no idea, and no one has replied to my original request.

However, I did have to install BS twice to get the activation/authorization to work ... so, maybe this is where the problem lies?

    Any clues?

OK. I have just found out that I inadvertently installed BS into 2 places. One on the system disk and one on my external hard drive.

That's why I was having authorisation problems. Maybe just double check that you have only one version of BS installed on your working system.
