I tried turning the lights off in the Komplete Kontrol software (image attached) and it kind of worked but then the sound also went off. Apparently the same tab controls the lights and the on/off functionality of the keys. Strange. Would like an update to turn the lights on/off. And the lights only. Not the sound. Please NI. :D

I just want to have the functionality of turning the lights off when the keyboard is idle, or if I don't want the lights to be on in the first place. Hoping to get an update addressing this from NI soon.

It just needs that hardware options page from Series 1 bringing back.

Does anyone know what the status of this request is? I'd LOVE to have the ability to turn that annoying light guide off. It's utterly useless when not using the KK plugin, which is most of the time (given how much I work with multi-channel templates). Those lights make working late at night a painful experience. And they serve no function outside of KK as a plugin.

    Hi igorn
I don’t think anything has happened yet. By email NI has told me that they are going to look at it. Although that is not very specific. 3 months ago now.
What I did is simply I bought some black electric tape and put a strip of it over the lights. That works perfect.

Might be considered a branding issue; those lights stand out like a sore thumb, whether needed or wanted.

way over due and disappointed latest update did not include this. c'mon NI, this is so easy and would help so much of use out who don't want bright blue lights shining constantly/

The budget keyboards without the LEDs suggest otherwise.
Agreed. Whilst the lights can be very useful from time to time, like anything else, there's a time and place for it.

It's completely ridiculous and embarrassing for NI, that they cannot meet their dedicated customers with such a simple request. It takes no effort to implement this to the software. I use black tape for the lights, but NI should be ashamed not to get back to us with a solution to this.

Is there any news about the lights issue? I was interested in buying this keyboard but there is a lot of problems and bad opinions everywhere...

Better don't buy it! We have been waiting for so long for they bring back the "disable lightguide"-function - i don't believe, it will ever happen. These *** lightguide LEDs are so annoying, i can't stand it anymore. And it looks like a kids' keyboard, not like pro hardware. I know, many people put adhesive tape above the keys, but i tried, you can still see the lights under it.

I just got my S88 MK2 for electronic production but also piano lesson practice. One thing is for sure I do not want the light guide on AT ALL while I'm practicing piano, it's so distracting. Especially the bright blue light..

For composing/production it's nice to have light guide on depending on the instrument but definitely not so great for early morning/night. I want the flexibility to turn it off completely or dim it based on what I'm doing and change the default color.

I left a comment on the support forum but in the meantime here's my current crappy workaround for piano practice/performance that just marginally helps the problem:...

    1) I use scale mode with a key mode of guide and a scale of major pentatonic.
Since pentatonics are only 5 note scales that means 7/12 keys or 60% of the keys will be turned off when they are not being played. Since it's in guide mode I can still play any key I want.

    2) I use Maschine instead of Komplete Kontrol when I want to practice with Piano VSTs
Some instruments (like Alicia's Keys, Pianoteq) take the color of the Maschine group (which I can change). Some do not. I set it to Maschine orange which is a lot better than the blue (and 60% lights are also off cause of hack 1).

In Komplete Kontrol I can do the first hack but I still get the awful blue no matter what. MIDI mode I can change the color but can't turn off any of the keys. So for practicing piano these two hacks help me at least bearable enough not to return the unit although it still sucks.

Some may say well you should use a different piano to practice, but honestly space is limited in my place for two keyboards. The nice thing about the s88 is should work great for production AND piano/practice/performing. It has tight integration with Maschine/KK software but also very nice weighted keys. It *almost* works so great for both but these lights are a huge issue for the practice/performance part.. They really need to resolve this.

A little on off lights button on the back would be a nice feature, especially for when you leave your computer on standby and have it plugged in for extended times.

i would also like to know how to turn them off. the only method i have found so far is to keep the Komplete Kontrol application running in the background, with the Preferences dialog opened. Not very practical, but perhaps enough for someone

Can't believe version 2.2.0 is out and and still no "Off" option for light guide, I am about to get rid of this thing, not worth it and this is such an easy fix for something so annoying.

This is rad and totally worked! Broke my sustain pecal, need it to control CC69 I guess but you have that as a button, not my pedal. Not smart enough to reprogram -- any help?

You need to customize the MIDI CCs and also the pedal config with this program using the pages to control the knobs and the pedals. You should define a preset with all the CCs assigned you need.
