Ok I've read so much on this but can't find the exact info I'm looking for. I have an audio-technica AT-LP 60 turntable with a phono and line output. I have an Mbox pro and a macbook pro computer and I want to sample into machine studio. How do I go about hooking this up? I have rca cables and the mbox connects to the mac with fire wire. (this turn table is not USB fyi). Please help me on hooking this up, thank you.

Have you tried to connect the rca cables to the aux input of the mbox??
Before I get my mixer, I used to record to maschine through Komplete audio 6 with SPDIF (numark ttx turntable). But the recording was really quiet...So, maybe you will need a mixer to record properly.

This particular turntable has a built-in preamp. Set the output switch on the back to "line" and connect it to a pair of inputs on your mBox (you'll need RCA to 1/4" cables or adapters).
Open the audio preferences in Machine, select the mBox as your device and specify the corresponding L/R input pair, under the "routing" tab.
In sample recording mode, select external stereo as the source and choose input 1. Record.

DJs have been using poor preamps on turntables since the dawn of DJing (Nice preamps in DJ mixers are rare) most sampling has been done via one of these, the preamp in the AT will be fine.
Personally i would recommend sampling outside of Maschine and in to a wave editor, either that or when you are done recording and editing in Maschine, save the sample, load it in to a wave editor and decide if you need it in stereo (Maschine sadly in the year 2016 still cant record or even convert to mono) most samples will work just as well in Mono, especially if they are drum hits, in fact mono is preferred in that case ;)

nor care many if the love from the low end is missing and it sounds like a hissing snake of static .. lol.. i remember using an ol' unmark 1710 at a club ( think it was) and it sounded terrible with vinyl.... but on a denon rack one i have in my studio, it sounds audiophile-esque.. and allen heath live always sounded excellent... but these are mixers with standard tables used..... . 'suppose it depends on what you are using it for... if i were recording, or converting,, i would want as good as possible... it if was live.. it is more forgiving... yah, i would say as well that with modern tech any should be fine so as they are RIAA compliant, which is very dated..... and then again, sometimes the quality is in the ear beholder and what may not sound great per spec, but hits the spot like an effect.

anyway... i would test the options.. if they were available.. ... try the direct /o and then compare to the the phono /o to a mixer or pre /o

Thank you very much. Just double checking but this is the cable you're talking about right? http://www.seismicaudiospeakers.com/rca-to-trs-patch-cable-5-feet/p/SARCA-Q-5
