Great, thank you all. That info plus FFluke's comment:

"If you edit a playlist, it gets saved in the collection file (all traktor playlists are part of the collection file) of the older version. it stays in the older version, but...

you can easily copy that collection file of the older version to the newer traktor folder and all changes are there, but you might run into trouble if you try that vice versa... "

together are starting to make sense. Basically simply put collection files aren't downward compatible. (That said you know I'm going to test it :))

yup. between some traktor versions they are downwards compatible, between some not.
it's a bit of a hit and miss between which versions collection files are compatible and not and i dont have in my head which versions implemented a new collection version (programming-wise).

so i would generally just recommend to do all edits in lower versions instead of trying the other way round.

p.s.: same goes for playlist files (given you exported a single playlist).

Thank you very much for creating this easy to follow guide. I love using Traktor but still have much to learn about the depths of the program. Guides like this make it possible

    Cheers!

are there any threads or tutorials that cover upgrading from TSP to TSP 2? I bought the upgrade awhile back but haven't had the downtime to install and test it until now...any help is appreciated. My biggest concern is having my tracks re-analyzed and losing cue point/bpm info. I'm on OSX 10.6.8, NI Audio 8. Any help is appreciated.

You won't lose your cue point but the grid and BPM info may change unless the tracks are locked. Make sure all the tracks are locked in TSP before you upgrade and you should be fine. Make a backup of all your files before you start incase something goes wrong.

there was no bpm lock in TSP. so you should install TSP2 and NOT copy all content over.

then open the preferences and make sure that you dont have ANY of the automated analyzing thingies on. close traktor.

then copy all over to the new user folder. THEN lock your tracks, then analyze. ;)

Not quite true. you Could lock the BPM but you had to click the padlock icon in the grid area for each track. there is not way to lock multiple tracks at once however so probably still best to follow FF's advice.

Before I discovered this tutorial, I had already done a Ghost rollback on my system. The earliest Traktor.exe I can see as a backup is "Traktor 2.5.1.13951"...however, when I run it, when I import my custom keyboard map for Traktor, or the custom programming I use on my Xone K2 controller, they both appear blank. I imagine because they were actually saved using Traktor 2.6?

Is there any way around this? Is there are closer version to 2.6.6 (which I was using) that might let those controller maps load properly?

How do I DOWNLOAD older versions? I started with 2.6.7 and have since upgraded to 2.6.8. My biggest problem is the lack of metadata sync with Traktor DJ. I've done a lot of analysing and cuepoint setting on TraktorDJ, and have since discovered I cannot sync this to Traktor Pro 2.6.7 or 2.6.8, as they took away the functionality (problems with it?)

you should find a base version after logging in on the NI website under "my products and serials"

yes, there was a serious bug in 2.6.6 this is why it was coded out hastily. it will come back soon.

send me your email adress and i'll send it to you.
if ever in my life i will have a serious website, there will be a download area. until then (probably until hell freezes over) i'll use mediafire. i assure you that my tutorial about back-up has nothing to do with twerking or adult stuff! :D ;)

I have installed TSP 2.7.1 on my Macbook Pro and i want to downgrade to 2.6.8
When i go to Applications-Native Instruments-Traktor 2 the folder backup is not existed.
However, in Documents-Native Instruments there are folders with the previous versions of traktor, including 2.6.8
    Any suggestion?

It sounds like you did a full install of 2.7.1 vs an upgrade? Did you ever have 2.6.8? If you never installed 2.6.8 your not gonna have that in the backup folder and you will probably need to do a full install of 2.6.8
