    To the Twisted Tools Guys,

When do you think you'll have more videos/info on Scapes? Before the end of the sale? I've two of your products and the temptation is there to buy the two I don't have to get the deal for Scapes but I think I'd like to know a little more about Scapes before I decide how urgently I need it.

    To Mindnoise,

About the Analog Microcosm pack. I really like the MP16 ensemble it's an excellent light-weight alternative to something like Battery and it's got a fair bit of flexibility so you can tweak samples but not necessarily get caught up in too many options. When you start playing about with other sample maps it's even better. For me, at least, an EQ/filter per pad to tame the sounds a little and more destinations for the LFO mod and it's pretty much perfect. The Richard Devine samples have some really nice stuff (especially the drums) but some the FX samples are a little too "random modular tweaking" for my tastes. Anyway, that's a minor criticism I really like the pack as you can probably guess.

    Cheers,
    John

    Is Scapes not 100% synthetic?

    Hey John,

Will be happy to try to explain quickly. We will have more videos and audio demos soon, but number 1 priority at the moment is getting the download package finalized for delivery so I'm not sure how much we'll get out in advance of the release. Will do as much as humanly possible. :)

Scapes is basically a feedback system that is ultra controllable. There are 6 'voices' that feed a polyphonic grain delay. Each voice can have an independent source (external input, self osc, oscillators..etc). There are 7 parameter cells that have sliders for control for each voice (source). The cells are Delay Time, Feedback, Grain, Pitch, Filter Pan, Vol. You can sliders drag around or use MIDI/OSC to play with these parameters. I've been playing around with KP Peformer beta for iPad and Scapes. It is truly insane!

Anyways, if you want to modulate the cell parameters internally you can use up to 4 mod sequencers (ABCD) which also cross modulate. You can also use the Gate Sequencer as a 6 voice noise gate (with envelope control) or to retrigger the input to the feedback path, which has the effect of retriggering each voice as if it were a sample being triggered by MIDI. This allows for 'repeatable' rhythmic patterns instead of random chaos (which is also possible). You can also do the same using external MIDI gate messages so that you can noise gate or retrigger Scapes using your keyboard. Furthermore, all the source oscillators track keyboard pitch as well if you desire, so Scapes kind of turns into a mini synth with noise/feedback. Osc pitch can be forced into scales as well. So can delay time and the grain pitch (though grain pitch scales don't sound as you might imagine). With tuned delay times and high feedback amounts you can get great six voice comb chords, that can be morphed and tweaked. Thats how the vocal fx were done in the demo. Randomizers and modulations have slide settings that allow for smooth morphing modulation.

Sorry, gotta run, hope that sheds some light! Feel free to ask more questions...

I believe I was posting as you typed this and may have answered your question already, but...

Scapes generates everything using delays and feedback tricks. You can feed it samples using the built-in beatlooper if you want and combine/mix that with Scapes oscillators and self-oscillation.

Using realistic orchestral percussion against it?

You could load whatever you wanted in the included sampler. We aren't including orchestral sounds though.

    Hi John,
    thanks for the heads up!
There are some pretty cool EQ and Compressors in the UL, too,
so If one takes a bit of work you can quite simply stitch together a good alternative to Battery, which is, besides R5 my favorite simple sampler.

And what I really like about R5/TwistedTools is that you can remodel it to your tastes.

    Fantastic job guys!

It's a real testament to your ingenuity that I was able to quickly find my own sounds with it, it will probably be my main 'goto' rhythm generator for minimal glitch explorations for the foreseeable future ;-) A great 'tactile temporal texture maker'

Not to discount the numerous other applications of course, just a quick experimental probing of the FX possibilities was also quite impressive.

The 'Random' and 'Variation' settings are incredibly well thought out and implemented, one can dial in any manner of linear movements from complete static, subtle morphing, to complete freak out!

Overall, this ensemble seems to have several identities, all of which at first glance would seem to hold it's own vast landscape of inspirations...thanks for another great 'twist' ;D

This is definitely not your another 3OSC synth, but video tutorial is coming soon :)

Well, according to my 'Audio Hijack Pro' app I have been recording various output for about five hours! now, and that's just playing with the 'Gate Sequencer as drum machine' aspect.

Makes me think of Lazyfish's best work meets Vulcan three dimensional chess, I keep discovering layers/levels of control and manipulation that really makes this a deep beast for personalization ;-)

So many combinations possible (I just discovered a complete new sound of many of my snaps by simply changing up source sound files with different sample pitches and lengths than sequencer), I think this will go way into the wee hours tonight.

I will have to swap in and try some of arachnaut's generous sample set contributions next :)

Thats great guys! Glad you're having fun...It is really hard to put down.

It is true that Scapes wears many hats. It's a sick little delay effect, its good for oneshots, rhythms, scapes etc. Hard to put it into one box or category. For example, this thing puts out mad bass tones too...or light cycles. Hook it up to Konkreet Performer on your ipad and give it to a six year old... Perhaps we should have called it rabbit hole.

    :)

    Enjoy the late night sessions!
