If you want to affect the length of the note in the step sequencer you have to change the grid size. That should let you set the note length as long or short as you need.

+1 forgot to mention how the grid setting effects note length,

as i suggested to him before, to read the manual.

hmm maybe i missed something when reading the manual but when i adjust grid settings it affects the noteposition my played notes get quantized to if quantize is switched on. not sure how this helps me changing the notelength once the note is set/recorded but maybe you can explain it to me.

all i want to do is to select an existing event and be able to change the notevalue as well as the notelength on the controller just for this single event (thinking of a sequencer like logic or cubase you select one note and get on top of the window a contextmenu which shows values like pitch, length, velocity etc). maybe i am too stupid but the only way i can change these things is by automating the parameters notelength and pitch (which means changing the parameters before the event starts and changing them back after the note finishes to prevent the other following events to affected as well)

this is completely off topic so i start a new thread for it.

prehaps you should record with the desired grid setting in future.

once again if you read the manual my friend it specifically tells you,
to drag right note border to change note length = this depends on what the grid is set to change top 1/16 1/32 1/64 etc.

hope this cleared it up a little

but this is exactly what i am talking about you have to drag. this is not possible to change form the controller.
let's say i record a note with the notelength of 1/16 how do i edit the notelength ON THE CONTROLLER?
draggin does not work without a mouse or a trackpad. the grid just helps you with the mouse finding the right position like magic markers in illustrator.

maybe i am really stupid and don't get it but please explain to me if i have a note starting at the first bar of the pattern with the notelength of 1/16th how can i edit this event using just the controller to be 2/16th or even something in between?
the only way to do it is to hold down the pad the note lies on and change the parameter length however this paramter does NOT affect the single step it affects the whole pattern and so you have to set it back to its original value to prevent the changes you made affect the folowing notes.

i hope the ability to do these things is meant with
    Improved event editing via controller
which is listed as one of the features in the 1.5

Select 'Show All' from the Spotlight magnifier dropdown to get up a Finder window. In the window toolbar select filename and click the + button. Select 'System Files' and 'are included' from the dropdown menus. This will then include all the files in the system library in the search. You can save the search to a smart folder and/or add it to the finder sidebar if you wish.

You can't. Changing the grid size only affects notes going to be recorded. Changing notes after the fact can only be done via the software (as far as I know). Frankly I don't see what you are complaining about and I really don't think 1.5 will magically fix your issues with the sequencer. The update post is pretty clear as to what we are getting. If you think you need a feature there is a feature request page oin this forum. Hopefully the devs will get to it at some point in the future. I personally think the sequencer is great. Can it be better, sure. I would like things like Scenes to be better organized and I would like the ability have patterns across scenes, but its no big deal.

Thank you very much for your answer!
Some people here got really funnny and recommended to read the manual not realising that this kind of event editing is not possible at the moment (mayb soneone should read the manual again?).
i dont really need much more of the sequencer. there are lots of requests for sure but for me this is the only important thing as i am unfortunately not that good at playing live and more or less always need some editing afterwards. i would also welcome this type of event editing as it allows very nice to try different variations very quick.
who knows maybe there will be such a feature.
patterns across scenes would be a feature which i totally agree to be useful.

    Anticipation

I'm having wet dreams about the 1.5 update. I've painted version 1.5 on the walls and trimmed our garden trees into the shape of decimals. The numbers are haunting my every day thoughts and constantly disturbing my many daily social encounters. Since the 1.5 release news I've been hospitalized three times and also quit my job so I can refresh the browser at consistent intervals every 3rd second. I'm going crazy! :p Dear N.I, my gods, release me from the chains (or more accurately phrased, our chains.) J.K. All in control, just very eager and so I'm writing a few lines to demonstrate how much in control I really am. Thanks for a wonderful product by the way. Cheers!
